i understand but i have a new set of g30 irons and wanted to try to gauge the distance between each.. One reason is i think the length is the same on certain shafts and only the loft is different. I forget which ones but i remember reading that on one of the ping sites. I think the 9 and the wedge and u wedge?

That's exactly why many people use a launch monitor. Plus, you get some idea how far you can hit a ball.

Exactly, the lengths and lofts are what make the clubs a few yards different from each other.

You can also play a club back and get roughly the same spin but get more distance or the same distance with a lower trajectory. There's no set club you use for a fixed distance from the pin. It's kind of a feel. That being said, you still have to build up your shot zones with any particular setup and compensate for your current conditions. It's all kind of complicated.

Better players know how far they can hit a club under more conditions than a bogey golfer. This is why they can hit more greens than the rest of us.

This all started because i was getting a puttter shaft shortened and while waiting hit a callaway xhot 4 wood and consistantly showed the distance at 235 to 240 yards. I would normally hit that about 190. Either the monitor is incorrect or I need to go back and buy that club.. lol

Okay, that much difference could be a strategic hot and humid summer day simulation of how far you could hit a ball given generous launch and roll conditions to potentially entice you to make a purchase.

BTW, in the OP you mentioned 210 yards versus 190 yards. That's a little closer to what I expect to be the maximum difference. I don't think you can setup a launch monitor with 24% improvement in distance?

Another thing, is there some sort of print out you can get afterwards that records all your readings?

I have done a distance check with the Trackman and pro where you go through your set and hit 5 balls with each club at the end of which they send you a pdf report with all the numbers.  I assume you can get other reports and data out although I haven't ever asked for it.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
