I have a set of Callaway X Forged irons with Project X 6.0 flighted shafts. I have been hitting them for about 2 months now. Lately every ball feels really hard and clunky off of them. I am even talking about the PW. I am play the Taylor Made TP Red golf ball. Yesterday I had 121 yds to the pin on 18 and hit a 3/4 pw. It felt like I hit a rock. The ball ended up pin high 10 feet to the right. (Yeah I missed the putt) So after I got through with my round I went into the proshop and I picked up a Mizuno MP-32 6 iron with a Dynamic Gold S300 shaft. I hit a bag of balls with just the 6 iron and everything felt really crisp. I might have hit 2 bad shots out of the entire bag.

So here are my questions. Is it the shaft? Is it in my head? I would have thought that the MP-32 would be harder to hit than the X-Forged. I am considering switching irons to the MP-32, the Taylor Made R7, or the Titleist 735. The main reason I went to the X-Forged with the Project X Flighted shaft was I wanted a little flatter trajectory. I tend to balloon some of my irons. But I was able to hit different trajectory shots with the MP-32 yesterday. The only other thing to consider is, it is very dry here. It is my understanding that with the Project X shaft taking a divot is better than sweeping the ball.

I think it has something to do with the club head, because I had the same problem with the x-forged, and also thought the MP-67 (which are basically the same as the 32's) where much easier to hit

1st - You said "lately" so how long did this this feeling start? How did you hit them when you first got them?

2nd - Callaway X-Forged w/ PX 6.0 vs MP-32 w/ DGS300 are not an apples to apples comparison. For one the heads are different and will most likely vary alot in the amount of spin and launch. Also that shafts are very different the PX is a high launch, low spin shaft while the DGS300 is a low launch, higher spin shaft. Also the flexes themselves are different, (assuming all specs are equal) the DG's are about 5.75 on the rifle scale and the PX's in your clubs I'm willing to bet are a little stiffer than 6.0. 3rd - With most shafts you are better off taking a divot, this helps compress the ball to get maximun ball speed.

When I first started using the X-Forged it was really hot here, around 95. Now it has cooled off some with highs in the 60's and low's in the 40's. So I am trying to convince myself that the cool weather can make a difference. And even though my club waters everything it is really dry here and hard to take much of a divot.

Also, I was under the impression that the PX Flighted where low, flatter trajectory shafts. I am not losing any distance really with the irons maybe 3-5 yds since the weather has gotten cooler but it is the feel at impact that is hard to adjust to. Nothing has that crisp, solid feel when it comes off the club. When I switched from Taylor Made TP's with DG to the X-Forged with PX I was looking at reducing my iron spin. I could spin back a 5 iron with the TM's. I tend to get "handsy" and put so much spin on the ball that it effects my distance. No my distance has not really suffered but I am not spinning the ball with my irons as much. Now it is more of a one hop and stop with 8-9-PW, and hit and release very little (10-12 feet) with the 4-7 irons. Maybe I need to go to 5.5 PX. I may be hitting them a little thin and thay may be giving me the harsh feel. I guess the best way to compare it would be trying X-Forged with DG shafts or trying the MP-32's with PX shafts.

I'm not really sure how X-Forged would compare to X-Tour though. Almost 6 months ago a buddy of mine bought a set of X-Tour irons with DG SL S300. At first it was okay hitting them (I did try it), but then after few weeks it felt just too harsh. Even the pro at the range said, "What the heck I'm hitting at? Rock?"

Anyway, he then sold his X-Tour and bought new set of MP-32. Perhaps there's a truth in "Nothing feels like a Mizuno", because it felt soft, perhaps the softest iron. Three days later I bought myself a set of MP-60 and I have never had any regrets since. So, perhaps the club head? Or perhaps it is the shaft being too stiff? Try MP-32 with similar shafts with the X-Forged, then you'll know. Perhaps it'll feel the same, or perhaps it won't. It's a personal thing, I guess. Anyway, good luck with the Mizuno.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
