Has anyone tried the new MP-57s? They appear to be stunning, although I've only seen them in photos. For those of you who know, could/would you compare them, please, as best you can to current model cavity backs. For example, would you put them in the same category as the Titleist 695 cavity backs or the 755 cavity backs? Do you think they have as much forgiveness as the 755s? Please don't feel as though I'm asking you to limit comparisons to Titleist clubs. Thank you in advance for your responses.

I have not tried them yet. I have an appointment this Saturday for Mizuno demo days and a fitting with a Mizuno rep. here in Long Beach. Really looking forward to it. I have read a lot of good things about these and the MP-60's. There are a good amount of reviews out there on this model.

I also have an appointment to get fitted for MP-57's this weekend at a local golf course. So far, I have demo'ed the MP-60, MP-57, MX-25, X Forged, J33 CB and the 695CB. I didn't like the X Forged and it pretty much came down to the MP-57 and 695CB.

I currently have MX-20's and was leaning toward staying in the Mizuno line. I don't like the thicker look of the MX-25, so the MP-57 was the next likely model. I spent quite a while with the demo irons of the MP-60 and MP-57 at the range and I liked the MP-57 more, but probably because I knew that it was the newer model. I also liked the feel the the M21 grip on the MP-57. It felt better than the Tour Velvet on the MP-60. Ball flight between the two was about the same for me and both had the DGS300. But I am interested in trying out the Rifle shafts during the fitting session.

A friend is giving me his old set of MP-32 to try out and practice with just for fun.

Do you feel the MX25, aside from aesthetic differences, were easier to hit than the MP-57s? Or were they comparable? Thanks for sharring your opinions.

MP57 has similar forgiveness as 755 IMO. Feel is softer in the MP57 where as 755 is clickier althogh both are forged. MP57 is slightly higher launch than 755 but no negetive effect on distance. Almost similar to MP60 but with more forgiveness but slight sacrifice on the 'feel' section but not much difference. I prefer the looks and workability of MP60 but overall MP57 will be an excellent choice.

I have the MP-57s in my bag right now. Shots are definitely higher than the 695CB (weak 1 degree) I used to play . They are forgiving but by no means "easy" to hit if you are looking at them from a game improvement perspective. They do feel great when you get them right, though.

I am interested in what you think of the Rifles if you get the chance to hit them. I was thinking about getting the flighted Rifles but settled for the DGS300, as I was more used to the feel.

Yes, the MX-25 was easier to hit than the MP-57. I couldn't really evaluate any distance loss that well as I was at the range at night and their balls are beat up and inconsistant distance wise.

I had a demo 6 iron for both with the MX-25 with the Dynalite S300 and the MP-57 with the DGS300. Not an apples to apples comparison, but I hit the MX-25 much higher than the MP-57. Not sure how much of that can be attributed to the shaft and how much to the iron. I hit my irons, even long irons, quite high and and I am looking for a flatter ball flight so that's why I am leaning to the MP-57 over the MX-25. That and the aesthetics. When I first picked up the MX-25 in the shop, I didn't like the top line nor the look of the sole.

Demo day done. I hit both the MP-57 with true temper S300 & R300 and the Mp-60 with same two shafts as well. The MP-57 was very forgiving with a large sweet spot. I moved the ball all around the club face to see how it would react. Shots way outside of center still kept most of the distance and it had good but not great feedback. Thin shots were easy on the hands, no bad shock waves up the shaft.

I preferred the MP-60 over the MP-57. Not a big difference in the forgiveness between the two. For me the 60 had a nicer feel when you hit it right. My results were the best with this club with the R-Flex shaft and best with the Stiff shaft on the 57. The Mizuno rep/fitter says it was because of the offset difference. I was pushing the stiff shaft on the 60 slightly to the right and it would come around when I switched to the regular. I swapped back and forth between clubs for about 45 minutes, that was after a warming up with a large bucket. Needless to say I was a little tired by the end. Sometime next week i'll go back a put some others up against the MP-60 to see which one will be in the bag for Christmas. Bob

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
