Cheers from Germany!

Im 30 years old, 1.92m tall weighing 280 pounds. Have been playing for 2 years now and am a mid handicapper. The only other ball sport I have been doing is playing tennis when I was a kid. I'm extremely right hand dominant. Like when hitting a nail with a hammer in the left hand I can't hit it.

These days, I'm still struggling with finding my general swing idea. Should it be a hit, or a swing? Is my body size even suited to be a swinger in the first place? There's a lot of mass to move...

obviously every pro I attended locally taught a swinging action. It works with weak and slow shots on the range but struggling on the course. My weak hit would be an early extended fat shot.

When I just try to hit the ball as hard as I can with my right hand I hit decent shots, but also have the extreme slices or fat shots due to hitting at the ball and not whipping through it. But I can generate some serious distance with a very small action.

it is extremely hard to find some support that doesn't promote the swinging theory, hands just along for the ride etc.

Do you guys consider me going along the hitting path? Where can I find good advice about it?

thanks

Here a pretty good existing thread on the matter.

I've tried both "methods" and also consider myself very right hand dominant. I've found with swinging I hit the ball straighter (less face/path issues) but mishit the ball more and my miss tends to be short of the target.  Hitting gives me the opposite result, I catch the ball more on the sweetspot and my missed tend to be either pin high left or right of the target. Either way I score about the same.

Most people don't use the right hand enough keep with that swing thought because even the smoothest swingers hit the ball with their right hand.

1. What swing thought? Use quotes
2. Not true about the right hand. And of all the examples you picked Fred Couples, a guy whose right hand literally comes off the club through impact

Vijay doesn't exactly use the right hand either.

That picture from Vijay is quite strong evidence.

what I feel with my "hitting" swing is that I completely spend myself in a 9 hole round, which can't be too good either.

the real problem with don't using the hands at all for me is early release/scooping. How do I make sure the lag is held through impact if it may not be held actively?

From what I know I should completely leave the club to centrifugal forces mercy!?

I mean, just because Fred couples lets loose of his right hand a split second after impact doesn't mean he isn't actively holding the lag on the downswing and either actively releases the right hand or just lets loose of the lag a split second before impact!

whats the feeling for you? Do you actively do something with your hands, or is the club just a wet towel which you swing around?
