I am scheduled for a putter fitting next week at Cool Clubs in Scottsdale.  I am planning on taking my own putters (2 Scotty's, one Odyssey) and not buying a new putter.

Questions:

1. Have any of you done this

2. Was it worth the $100 - did you see an improvement in your putts/round?

3. Did you end up 'getting sold' a new putter?

4. Did you have more than one putter modified for your eye/stroke?

Thanks in advance.  My putting is so streaky.  29 putts yesterday; 37 on Tuesday.  Usually average 1.9 per hole per round.

I'll answer my own question, after having gone thru a fitting.  First of all, I ended up doing a putter fitting at 2ndSwing in Scottsdale with Chris.  What a great experience and it certainly exceeded my expectations.  I went to the fitting with 4 putters in hand.  1) 20 year old Scotty; 2) 5 yo Scotty Newport 2 3) 5 yo Scotty Delmar; 4) Odyssey Tank #7.  First thing we did was figure out my swing path.  Turns out I have a slight arc.  That swing path immediately eliminated the Delmar and the Tank.  The Delmar is for more extreme arcs and the Tank is for straight back/forward.  Next, based on my eye position, my 34" Newport was 1" too short.  The old Scotty fit great.  Next, we looked at lie angle.  The old Scotty's toe was significantly off of horizontal.  Bent the shaft.  Next, looked at loft.  Ball didn't really start 'rolling' until well past the reference mark.  Reduced loft.

I ended up trading 3 of the 4 putters in on a new to me used Scotty that fit my eye.  Net difference was $10.

Since going thru this, I've played 6 rounds of golf.  My average putts per hole have dropped from 1.92 to 1.75.  Maybe it's coincidence, maybe is confidence - whatever.

Best $100 I've spend on golf in a long time.

    • Which was his second hole, yeah. I talked with Mav's coach/instructor last night, ha ha.
    • Yikes! Colin Morikawa withdraws on 11th tee after the practice swing made his lower back twinge.

    • My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.
    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
