I've been Playing Golf for: 25 years
My current handicap index or average score is: high 70's low 80's
My typical ball flight is: lately high fade or miss hit right
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: slice/blade. I bought Titleist AP1 irons a few months ago and it lengthened my distance by about 1 club more. I usually shoot in the high 70's and low 80's. I was hitting them great but I started hosel shanking to the right. I mostly got rid of my shank but now I am always slicing my irons or blading them to the right. I usually can fix problems like this on my own but this time I am beat. I understand my club face is probably open at impact but I can't figure out what I am doing to cause this. Any help will be appreciated.

Can you also provide one that is face on? Will help with the analysis.

Full disclaimer -- I am not a professional instructor, merely a fellow golfer with an enjoyment of studying golf swings.

You are set up very vertically and even toward the target to the ball by the time your backswing finishes. There should always be some spine tilt away from the target so your hands can get ahead and there is room for all the moving parts.

If you take a look at the top of your backswing you are definitely leaning toward the target. The more your spine goes vertical and toward the target the more your path will be pushed to the left and thus you'd be going out to in causing the slice. You are intuitive enough and a good enough golfer that your body by impact tries to throw you back into proper spine tilt, despite it being a very difficult move to time, but it would be much easier if you just set up that way to start. :)

So 2 things stand out for me both related to the backswing.

1. Is you need to work on key #1 and ensuring your head stays stead and doesn't go down and forward. You are sort of faking a backswing by moving your head back and forward.

Here is a good thread to read on improving the backswing.

2. We need to work on your leg work in the backswing to get your hip to 45 degrees and your shoulders to 90. Now you are 15 and 45. Lots of room to make a bigger backswing which will help with your sequencing. I recommend putting some tees under your arms or gloves and swinging focusing on the information in the thread above.

Lets start working on the backswing and then we can move onto the downswing.

    • Down the line and face on from today. Still feeling like I’m sticking the club into a hole in the ceiling above my right shoulder and then big loop inside to start downswing. That’s how it feels. Not how it looks though! Gotta keep working on this for a bit but I see a lot of progress. 😁
    • Day 5 (13 Mar 26) - Friday shootout cancelled- made it a practice round working from mixed tees. Plenty of up and down work around greens.  Best was a hole out birdie on the par 3 #5 hole - nice pitch and roll w/Pw from about 10yds off the green - dead center flagstick drop.  Much of round was focused on getting solid weight shift into lead foot.
    • Day 208 3-13 Worked on wrist arching and flow. First time hitting reall balls at a range in months. It was nice to see ball flight. Still not sure it beats my backyard practice station.
    • Three hole match - microphones on in the cart. It's fascinating listening to them talk about their shots and how they play them. I'm not normally a huge fan of the TM videos - they seem forced to me - but this one doesn't. It's also fun seeing their competitiveness over what on the face of it is a fairly meaningless 3 holes, but they can't help themselves.
