I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year
My current handicap index or average score is: EGA Handicap 27,5
My typical ball flight is: Draw or straight with Irons and Slice or Fade with Driver
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: My driver slices

Hi guys,

I am new to this forum and shall chip my contribution in. But start with a swing review request. My main hurdle to get down with my Hcp and improve my game is the slicing with my driver. I can hit it very slowly and that will normally produce a straight shot but only 150 mtr or so. Once I give more clubhead speed to it I can reach (when the shot is straight) +-250 mtr but more than half of my shots start going to the right after lets say 125/150 mtr. So just straight slices. I focussed a lot on my weaknesses:

-Max 270 degrees in backswing (Mostly I am 290)
-Left arm straight
-No tension
-Slow 3/1 backswing

But I don't improve well enough in this. So I am searching in the bush a lot when I play rounds hahah
My club plane is fine (so backswing and downswing are good in line ; -1pct). So I am not coming over the top or so.

Read a lot about open clubface (keep closed) and out to in (focussing on in to out).
When I try to make an in to out swing I generally hook the drive.

Any other tips / or big missers in my swing?

All tips are welcome and I really appreciatie guys!!

Ps. Sorry for my English and best from Amsterdam!

Hi and welcome!

You have a nice athletic move, and your posture is decent. Well done.

Personally, I would start here, which will start helping you turn the proper amount. You can also look at the following video specifically about hitting driver. Although I think starting with the basics will help you more in the long term.

I'll add one more thread from these forums that might help, this one about the grip:

From your first video, it looks like your left hand grip is more in the palm of your hand, where ideally it should be more in the fingers.  Good luck!

Your spine is angled towards the target at the top of swing position.  That represents a "reverse weight shift" problem.  Two ways to correct that would be

(1) avoid your overswing.  Your swing is just too long.

(2) secondary axis tilt away from the target at address - and maintain it !

See how the spine is not straight up and down at address ? it tilts to the right in this picture (away from the target).

Try to put the camera more square FACE ON.

I guess this is a good example.

    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲

    • Why wouldn't it have? It's not like you were playing it as a 145yd par 5 and made a 2 or something.  Or not like it was playing 50yds to a temporary green or something either.
