My experiments ten years ago with a long, anchored putter showed this: It was great for longer putts, really helped with distance and direction control. BUT... I had trouble on shorter putts. The longest putt I made in a round was 6 feet.

It seemed like 40-footers and 10-footers both ended up with 2 feet left.

That's contrary to what most people feel: that short putts are improved, but longer putts are tougher to gauge distance.
