Something I read in a golf magazine (not sure which one, I was at the airport trying not to be too bored) was a piece about Padraig Harrington. In it he said that he lifted his left heel off the ground and then dug it in to insure he was hitting into a stiff left side. I have been having problems of ripping my hips through and subsequently been playing from the right side far too often . Trying this method of left foot plant has helped me transfer the weight and to keep my hips from flying open. not sure if that is what people have in mind, but I need it to get warmer so I can see if it is a long term fix.

I would say the best drill is to literally let your back foot come around and step through the shot when you are practicing. If you are looking for some examples of good weight shift, look at Gary Player. he had the biggest transfer of weight back and through the ball of anyone ive ever seen.

To me its similar to the way a great dancer would cut a rug.Hold your upper body completely still and move your legs essentially the way say...James brown would.Shifting weight is a tedious matter...upon back swing ft heal should be glued to the ground(front&back; of the foot)...on follow through your back foot should be completely upside down with your big toe as far behind you as possible...

After my initial response, I saw Ringer's youtube videos and it has completely changed my view toward weight shift.

Following his prescription, you just push off your right foot after a COMPLETE backswing. I have refined it a little by shifting my weight to my inside right foot on the backswing, then pushing off that at the downswing transition. NO CONSCIOUS HIP TURN IS NECESSARY IT TAKES CARE OF ITSELF.

His simple missive has made my swing more consistent.

As another post said in the first page... i don't know if you have ever played baseball before, but the weight shift on a golf swing is very similar. If you can think about hitting the golf ball the way you hit a baseball, that may help.

a bad day on the golf course is always better than a good day at work."

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.
    • Day 123 12-13 Rotation and getting to lead side work. Recorded face on. Hit a few foam balls but did plenty of rehearsals today.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
