Hey guys, I've looked at the statistics, listened to the experts, and now I want to here what you guys think.

I currently have the Titleist 904F 15 degree 3-wood with the Graphite Design YS-6 FW+ R flex (68 grams) shaft and am looking to replace it with the newer hotter face of the Titleist 906F2, as well as a stiffer shaft. Keep in mind that I am 15 and growing; muscle and height. 5'7" 120 lbs, currently.

I have just returned from hitting the Titleist 906F2 in 15 degrees with the UST Proforce V2 85-S (90 grams) shaft, as well as with the Aldila VS Proto 'By You' 85-S (87 grams) shaft. I hit on an indoor launch monitor at a Golf Headquarters, and brought my current 3-wood in for the comparison.

My average swing speed for all three was 85 MPH, my average carry for each was different, ranging between 180 and 190+ yds. 130 MPH ball speed, and about 25 yards of roll. The 906F2 had a consistently longer carry than the 904F, which, I think, can be attributed to the hotter face and technology of the F2.

The V2 shaft was what I went into the store hoping to hit the best, and after leaving I can honestly say that the results showed in favor of my expectations. I know that the V2 shaft is considered to be one of the stiffest shafts available, and that my swing speed is too slow for a shaft of its stiffness, but the results show that I hit it the best, even better than my current 3-wood.

What do you guys think? Should I wait until I am swinging faster, or go ahead and move in on this one? Would this really "hurt" me to swing with a club too stiff, or too heavy for me? Should I go for a slightly lighter model of the V2 (75-S, which is 81 grams)?

I hope y'all can help. Thanks!

shouldnt the guy that was watching you on the moniters tell what he thinks you should use? but i think you should wait till you have another growth spert around this summer and you will be ready for new sticks. also your hitting a 85 gram shaft in your 3 wood thats alot i have a 75 gram x stiff with a 115 mph swing speed so go with the proforce 65 gram i think it is worth a try.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
