Guys,

I'm looking to possibly move to Nashville to attend Bus School at Vanderbilt. Can you tell me about any courses that fit under any of the following categories?

1) Nice, once-in-a-while treats ( awesome courses that are too $$$ to play regularly

2) Dependable, play it every week courses

3) Courses with great practice facilities

I'm coming from San Francisco, where the courses are short but picturesque, and a typical 18 will cost me between $40 and $60 bucks.

Try this website:

www.golfnow.com

That place gives deals on a few golf courses in the Nashville area.

As far as nice golf courses....

Harpeth Hills
Belle Meade Country Club
Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club
Vanderbilt Legends Club
Hillwood Country Club

I've never actually played any of these courses, but I have fraternity brothers from the area that have played and worked at a few of them.

I can't say too much about Nashville, but I know in Memphis playing an 18-hole course (municipal) only costs me $18 if I walk it, and an extra $6 if I want to be lazy and drive the course.

Be sure to check out the Ted Rhodes course though... I have a few friends who travel to Nashville for business once in a while and they try to play it everytime they go. I've heard it's a really nice course.

At the Gaylord Resort, there is the Springhouse Course. I played it once with a customer a few years back and it was very nice. He brought up this course to me recently and says it's still kept in good shape and one of his favorites. Don't recall pricing, but I want to say in the $50-75 range. Definitely worth that. I remember it being along a river and VERY humid with lots of small, rolling hills. Definitely recommend it.

I also played a course called Highland Rim - Through The Green with the same customer just a few months ago. It was just okay and wasn't in the best shape last June. I believe it was in the $30-45 range, so if you're looking for affordable, this might be one.

    • Day 51 (yesterday was 50, not 59 -- that was a typo).  I didn't have a ton of time today.  I hit a dozen balls with a 6-iron in my practice room.   Amazingly, after this I did the ShotScope analysis of yesterday's round;  my approach play was at the 5 hcp level.  That's pretty darn good, but unfortunately for my score, some of that came from hitting a few good recovery shots.  But I also hit some really good approach shots that weren't from trouble!

    • Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.  The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.
    • I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.
