I can't remember the rule on the lie of irons does a too upright lie angle make shots go left or right (for a right hander)?

I'm testing clubs and found an iron I really like but I hit the ball on a straight path left with the test club such that aiming at the right edge of a green with a 7 iron puts the ball on a straight path about 10 yards to the left. No hook or slice involved.

Not sure it has anything to do with ur lie angle, might be your swing, but i think it might make it go a little left...unsure of that though.

If your hitting it left, then it's probably too upright; hitting it right and they're probably too flat. Get fitted on a lie board and it should help determine what lie angle is right for you.

I found the answer. Test club is a PING green dot (3 steps more upright than standard) and and my last set of fitted PINGs were red dots or 1 step less upright than standard. The ball was going exactly where it should with a too upright club.

I would of thought that having the club too upright would cause pushed shots, as in theory the toe of the club is digging in to the ground early and leaving the club face open and if the club was to flat, the heel would dig in to the group too early, and force the club face shut?.

Surely the flex of the shaft is the bigger issue in the direction of the shots in this case, and not the lie of the club.
