I was just wondering if Titleist tries its best to meet the demands of the Country Club golfer. I mean all i see in private clubs is titleist titleist and more titleist--and i wonder why this is so. I know that Titleist is geared for the snobby kind of golfer. Thing is i see a lot of the richer people at the local club with titleist head to toe. Why is this soo and why arent people putting some other brand head to toe

A lot of club pros also have manufacturer affiliations. If I had a volume agreement with Titleist and not Nike, I'm pushing Titleist.

I don't see that all private club shops are Titleist dominated. However, I haven't seen many without some overpriced "Vokey" or "Cameron" impulse buying items.

When you say overpriced Vokey items are you talking about the wedges that are the same price as Cleveland CG12 and CG14's, Callaway X-forged and Ping Tour-W's and less than the TaylorMade RAC Satin and Callway X-Tour Vintage?

I can agree that much of the Cameron stuff is over priced. Some of the clothing and hats can get outrageous. They are also limited in their production. They could make more and sell them for less, but that is not what they do at Cameron. The putters are expensive, but not much different than other high end items in any industry. It is like buying a Mercedes. They make quality stuff and their prices reflect that. It was the same thing with Nike and the Jordan brand for a long time. if you wanted Air Jordan's, you had to pay for them. Were they better than the top shoe by Adidas or Reebok? That was a matter of opinion.

How can you say that "Cameron" is overpriced when there is really nothing to compare it too. They are such high quality putters that you can't take an odyssey or ping and compare the weight, feel, and time put into making it with the cameron. Plus the Vokey wedges are the same price as the cg14's and taylor mades. I just don't understand where you are getting the overpriced from.

i agree:

I think that because Titleist traditionally make high-quality golf equipment for the established mid-low handicap golfer.

People who play at private clubs are good golfers (well at least think and act like they are) so will tend to learn towards quality clubs.

Traditional, conservative, proven winners, . . . that's music to their ears and Titleist plays that tune better than any. When you have money you want to keep it so you want to be associated with a record of sustained excellence in every facet of your life be it advisors, associates, friends, or golf equipment.

Player A (Titleist in bag) is in effect saying, "I have a lot of financial wins over many years," and player B (Titleist in bag) is saying, "Right back at you and then some."

As far as price, LOL, a lot of manufactures have caught up there!

We were talking about rich people and private clubs weren't we? Please don't take your Golf Galaxy expectations to Oakmont's pro shop

Again, we were talking about rich people and private clubs weren't we? Everything in the shop is overpriced unnless you are at a private club like the one I belonged to. That was a VFW with a golf course around it. I don't want to get into a quality showdown (or any other showdown). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This beholder has just never beheld a putter worth $500. (That's what I was quoted on the Futura at a public track in its first year. Oh. I haven't seen too many of those lately.) If they hold back production to keep the price up, that's smart business. Conversely, that oil-can, spin-milled wedge for $125 ain't bad.

I would agree that $500 is high for a putter, but most of their putters are in the $300 range. Still high, but not outrageous.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
