I have had my set of golf clubs for two years and have never been able to successfully hit my driver. I would have one good shot and then none after that. I just use my three wood off the tee all the time and it is straight. I hit it about 200 250 yards. I am only 15 yrs old. Should i worry about working out my driver if i achieve these distances with my 3 wood?

If you can achieve those distances and control with your 3-Wood, I'd be happy... for now. Driver isn't your top priority, nor is distance really. What's your handicap?

And tell us more about your driver. Did it come with a set or was it fitted for you? Do you take full swing lessons? If the answers are "with the set" and "yes," ask the pro to look at the driver. Maybe it's a mis-fit, and there's a far better driver out there for you that you can hit... and bomb like the 3-Wood

The driver came with my set. It has a mid flex shaft on it and a 460 cc head. I have never taken lessons but i am part of my high school golf team. (if that helps anyway) Don't know too much about the handicaps and everything but par at our golf teams home course is 36 on front nine and at the in the begging of the season i shot 50's and at the end i was shooting
40's.

I'm estimating your handicap in the mid-20s, then; that's about my score for 9 holes.

Yes, you should learn to hit your driver. It's more forgiving than your 3-Wood and should hit it farther. Don't learn it at the expense of your short game (which is how you'll really lower your scores). But you should be giving it a try, especially since you already hit your 3-Wood well. If you couldn't hit anything better than a 5-iron, I'd say no. You should get someone who is trained in these things - a pro at the course or other professional club fitter - not to be confused with your friends, your coach, or your parents, unless one of those fit into the first two categories - to take a look at the driver and see if it works well for you. It could be tragically mis-fit. Or it could be perfect for you. But figure that out before trying too much with the driver.

    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
