Hi. The "Search" function is not working for me. It just returns "0 results for your search"

I can be in a topic and type the same topic's title into "Search" and it still returns 0 results....

Examples would help.

First, it helps if you choose "all content". Then, particularly for multiple words, to make sure the search didn't put a "+" between them or something.

https://thesandtrap.com/search/?q=ballybunion works.

https://thesandtrap.com/search/?&q=how to search&sortby=relevancy worked.

Then there are the buttons and options below:

Screen%20Shot%202017-12-29%20at%2010.07.

Note that the search index only includes words four letters long or longer.

https://thesandtrap.com/search/?&q=Titleist prov1x&sortby=newest gives different results than https://thesandtrap.com/search/?&q=Titleist pro v1x&sortby=newest (which really only searches for "titleist").

Ahhh, thanks, I guess I fell foul of the "less than 4 letters" stipulation.

I was trying to search for "fat shots" as I fatted a few last time I played. Any suggestions for better search phrases to help me find info/drills?

For stuff like that… I often just use Google:

https://www.google.com/search?q=fat+shots+site:thesandtrap.com

If you add "site:thesandtrap.com" it limits the search to here.

Yes that works. Could you build this into the site as some kind of custom Google search window ?

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

Maybe?

I just have a keyboard shortcut. I type "gs" and it expands to "site:thesandtrap.com" with a return at the end to submit the search.

The most annoying thing, honestly, about the site's search is that it loves to add the + sign between words. And the "fat shots" works on Google because the site throws out the word "fat" as it's only three letters long.

ah, I think I get it. I played around with searching Six Footer Challenge and No Sixes Challenge, and first they both came up with those dang plus signs. And when I searched for gps watch, it made no sense to me... I absolutely KNEW there would be tons of opinions on this site.

The plus signs are a recent thing. I actually think that's a bug and a not-expected behavior. "sixes+challenge" doesn't get any results, but "sixes challenge" gets several, of course.

It may be a plugin I have installed. I'm going to investigate that.

Yes, it appears to be a "Kitchen Sink" plugin I have activated right now. Search matters so I'll disable it temporarily, though I may re-activate it if the developer believes they've made some changes.

The developer of the plugin that seems to be causing problems is working on this.

The + signs shouldn't be a part of the search, which will greatly help the search stuff return better results.

Edit a little bit later: give it a try right now, @deekay, @gregsandiego, and @Golfer gal. Search should work better. Just make sure you don't search "This Topic." Search either "All Content" or "Topics" or something else relevant.

    • I was having a decent round (no doubles is a decent rough these days) when I got to eight and hit a drive that looked like it was going into a fairway bunker. I wish it had because, when I got to the ball, it was hanging on the edge of the bunker and I had no stance. I got into the bunker and just tried to baseball swing a wedge to advance it a little but I bounced it about ten yards into deep rough. I still had 185 to the green and envisioned my first double (at best). Probably should have taken my medicine with a wedge, but I pulled my 25 degree hybrid instead. I made good contact with a lot of topspin and it tumbled and rolled all the way to the green where I was able to two putt for a bogie to keep my "decent round" intact. 😎
    • I am in the same boat, a lefty who has played righthanded all my life because my Dad cut down some of his clubs when I was a kid to hit in the back yard. I am completely lefthanded except for golf, baseball and hockey. It took me years to engage my right side in the swing, but I had a killer backhand in tennis. I tried out playing lefty about thirty years ago, but it was very daunting. Length is enticing, and I could hit it farther lefthanded but it went all over the place. I only gave it about a month before I stopped and I should have given it more time because I think it could have worked out, but I was a decent righty at the time (around a 7 index) and wasn't willing to put in the time. I never had a lot of length, but I could keep the ball in front of me and there is something to say about being in the short grass. Good luck. Hit 'em straight!

    • Although the base rules don't make this really clear, the Player must have decided to use Unplayable Ball relief before lifting the ball.  This exact situation is discussed in the Committee Procedures section of the Rules, section 6C(8).  Section 6C addresses how to rule when a Player proceeds under a Rule that does not apply.  Note that 9.4 applies, 9.4 deals with a player moving his ball when no rule allows it.   Rule 9.4 penalizes the Player for lifting his ball when not permitted by the Rules, and requires him to replace it.  Since he dropped and played from a different place, the Wrong Place penalty applies.  As for a serious breach, that would only apply if the Wrong Place gave him a really significant advantage.  Since he could have taken Unplayable Ball relief in essentially the same spot, for just 1 penalty stroke, the Wrong Place penalty of 2 strokes is enough "punishment", there's no need to consider a DQ.
