When i got my current putter i took my previous one with me. The pro had me make putts with my old one to see what sort of misses i had and whether i was leaving puts short. He also used a laser pointer attached to the club to check aim.

Problem with putters is that they are such a personal thing. A club that on paper is the right one for you may not be the one that works on the course simply down to the way it looks.

All my putters have been mallets so after trying a number of putters the pro handed me a Cleveland Smart Square blade (half blade half mallet sort of thing) from the end of season sale bin. 15 minutes and a number of putts later i handed £30 to him and have never been happier.

Im sure there are many ways to help you determine the right putter but i dont believe any "scientific" method can replace how the club feels and looks to a particular person. Just my 2 pence worth :-D.

When looking into buying a new putter, how do you evaluate them vs. your current putter? Is it all feel, or are there specific drills or methods to determine what's the right putter to purchase? Thanks in advance!

Also, has anyone used puttlab? http://www.scienceandmotion.com/puttlab/

I own a SAM, yes, and use it weekly with players of all levels.

I do putter fittings, and they're basically like this:

Because, after all, putting is three things:
