Choosing a Ball

I've been playing golf for 18 months. My focus, when it came to equipment, was being fitted for the right clubs and finding a soft cover ball that I could compress and strike fairly well.

My problem is this: I recently read Golf Magazine's results of their golf ball test. The ball that I found that would satisfy my needs is the Titleist NXT Tour/Extreme. I've never played a round with these balls, instead, I've used the Titleist DT Solo, Hogan Hawk and Laddie Extreme. Two of the three were also on their list and performed pretty well.

Has anyone played with the Titleist NXT Tour/Extreme? If so, what ball were you using previously? What changes, better/worse, did you find?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The NXT Tour and NXT Extreme are two totally different balls... one hard and lacking spin, the other medium-high spin and soft. The Tour being the latter.

I play the NXT Tour... have played it off and on for about 3 years, but reluctantly because of the price. This year I will only play the NXT Tour... I just bought 7 dozen mint condition refinished ones.

last year I played Maxfli Fires mostly... and some NXT Tours
year before that I played Nike Ignite, Mojos and some NXT Tours

I have always felt the NXT Tours spun best around the green, and had the best feel. The Mojo was just about as soft, nice feel, but not quite the NXT. I played the Maxfli Fire last year because it was a 3-piece and it was cheap... found a bunch on sale. They felt good... had great distance, but still not quite the NXT. NXT Tour performs as close to a premium ball as you can get, and I think they are great.

Thank you for the reply. In reading the features of the NXT Tour, it said that it was great around the greens, low driver spin, good length on iron shots and good bang for the buck. I needed someone to relate their experience and I thank you.

Now, let's hope I can find some mint condition refurbished NXT Tour balls.

The NXT-Tour is a great ball with good spin, but if i could recommend a ball in the NXT tour price range. I would recommend the new Burner/Tp ball with the LDP technology. It flies great on mishits and checks as well as most balls on full shots. However the ball doesnt check as well as an NXT tour on chips.

      Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.

      Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.

      Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
