Howdy, y'all. Here's the deal...

This fall the Sand Trap staff is going to get together for a Ryder Cup-like tournament. Next year we hope to invite some guests (i.e. readers and forum members) to play, expenses paid.

We don't yet have a name for the event ("Trapper Cup" or "Sandy Cup" are being tossed about, but I've recently started to dislike them as being pretty silly and bland), but I am looking for a trophy.

I've looked on eBay. There are some okay trophies there. I've looked at crownawards.com (too cheap and ugly) and at silvertrohy.com (a tad on the pricy side, maybe). I've got a budget of about $250.

Ideally, the trophy would be something pretty simple - like all three of the majors that give out trophies. They may be nicely decorated, but the general shape of the trophy is pretty plain. I don't want a cheesy looking or gaudy trophy.

Size? About 14" or so should be good, maybe a bit more.

If the trophy was completely unique (like this one here ), that'd be fine too. Maybe the name of the event could even come from the trophy.

So I've run out of ideas and places to look. What do you think would be a good trophy? Where can I get one? What will it cost? I'm willing to buy trophies from someone here on the forum if they have something that would work, or if they know where I can get one, or if they can make one... Or I'm just looking for suggestions.

The trophy, btw, is for the winning team. Each member will receive a medal (gold or silver) for themselves. The trophy itself will be passed along year to year.

I think maybe we'll give something like this a try:

I've actually been looking for the same kind of thing. I'm looking at crystal vases though since the award will be for primarily women volunteers in a Jr. Golf program. Here are some links to specific vases but if you go to the home pages, they offer many different awards.

    • I’ve been seriously considering the QuadMAX lately, but it seems like such overkill for individual use. One can dream…   Day 3 - Played around with setup, swinging while standing too close, too far away, and “just right.” Need to film this stuff, since I know feeling too close is where I should be.
    • Day 157 - 2025-03-06 Got the QuadMAX back today. Was going to spend a good 60 minutes practicing, but spent it on the phone as they fixed the front panel, but… the ethernet port wasn't fixed. So that's great. 😛 Got some time in working on some chipping with a student earlier in the day.
    • Day 230: did a stack session.
    • I like this one. Wyndham has two golf swings. With his driver he is pretty much elite from a force plate and 3D measurement perspective. With his irons, he doesn't use his legs correctly. Weight transfer from right heel to left toe instead of weight going to the back heel of the left leg. Soft left leg through impact. Way more upper body focused, and so much that his kinematic sequence was off with the irons. The torso was starting before the lower body.  I think some good drills in the video. Hitting the ball with the right foot back to force him to post on the left leg sooner. Then you can start creeping the right foot back to the address position.  I like the gym drills for practicing correct kinematic sequence. Just really focusing on the legs driving the arm movement. It is just good offseason work as well, and in season. You don't always need a club to work on something related to the golf swing.  I still nitpick on them saying that you push off with the right foot. 😁
    • Mar 6 2025.  Caught up on posting - feel like I’m off to a solid start - 6 of 18 holes have birdies and parred all at my local course.
