I have been recently hit with a 'natural' fade on my low iron shots and it has been bugging me. I know it might be difficult to assess the question at hand, but can anyone give me general direction/pointers as to how I would go about correcting this on my straight shots? The 'natural' fade isn't unmanageable, but it is definitely noticeable and it prevents me from hitting as close to the pin as I would want to. The funny thing is my wedges and high irons (6,7,8,9) do not have this natural fade, just my low irons (3,4,5).

This may/may not have anything to do with it, but as a relatively new player I have also been tinkering with shot shaping in the past few weeks.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I do the exact same thing as well. I know there are pros out there that hit with a natural fade, but I'd also like to straighten out my longer irons so I can better aim and get more distance on my shots.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

With the short irons, some swing faults may not be seen in the results, but when you move to the less forgiving long irons they show up. The combination of longer shaft and stronger loft will magnify a fault and at some point exploit it. While there is nothing wrong with playing a natural fade, at this point you want to learn to swing the club properly. This is best done on the range and my advice would be to make sure you are hitting the ball from the inside and releasing the clubhead through impact. The other thing that you need to realize is that a 3 iron swing is flatter than a 9 iron swing. If you are swinging a long iron too steep you likely will come over the top and cut across the ball from the outside and fade it (or worse slice and lose distance). Other causes could be from starting the downswing with your shoulders or an improper weight shift. Until you get that worked out on the range, play the fade with those irons.

I can't really suggest too much without knowing more about your swing. I hope this helps.

I like hitting a three yard draw so when I miss it is usually a pulled draw. I have found that when I start to miss more and more shots it is because of my distance away from the ball is to far.

Try getting a little closer to the ball, making your swing more upright on your foot line (having your club point 12 o'clock at the top of your swing), rather swing round your belt line (having your club point at 10 or 11 at the top). Let me know if it works for you.
