  1. Here is a real simple question about the GHIN handicap system. I was previously a 5.9 handicap. Does this mean I am a 5 handicap, or a 6 handicap? Do you round up/round down? How does this work? Mine just went down to a 5.0 but I was previously a 5.9, was I a 6 before, or was I still a 5?> Kind of a dumb thread I realize now, but whatever.
  2. Yeah but I wouldn't call someone that shoots 90-95 a good golfer though. I mean, a good golfer to me is someone who can shoot in the low 80's. I realize that the majority of players out there at mid 90's to 100's shooters, but with a little work on your game and some time devoted to practice and playing, you can get down to a high 80's somewhat easily (just pretty much working on your short game, putting, and not completely wasting strokes.) I think a great player is anyone under a 3 handicap. But I think that 4-10 range is a good golfer. When I see a 20 handicap on the range I don't say "That guy is a good player!"
  3. Almost always a Titleist ProV1 or ProV1x, but sometimes I'll play those Bridgestone B330-RX golf balls. They are quite nice.
  4. No, I do not. But every 4 weeks I get a lesson so he uses the video every time there.
  5. Anyone that's a legitimate single digit handicapper I consider a good player.
  6. Maybe a better approach would be take a week or so off from the game completely. Come back next week with a new mindset and hit some on the range!
  7. As one of those 18 year old kids who work at a golf course, we are just trying to make a few dollars. 7.50 an hour doesn't go that far.
  8. 17-19* hybrid would be ideal. Ping hybrids are great, I still use a g5 that I've had for years. Just can't get rid of that thing, I love it.
  9. Oosthuizen's swing is tremendous.
  10. Draw. Mine is more like a hook at the moment right now, going a little too much right to left.
  11. You'll survive. But I think you should bring the clubs. I don't see the harm in getting out every once in a while when you're at school.
  12. I stand behind my ball and take about 1 or 2 real fast, then pick a target, and go. I've been told I'm one of the quickest players people have played with.
  13. I agree with this for the most part, but hey, that's how it goes. You knew it was gonna be like that going in. Luck of the draw type of thing, and it's who can survive. LOL.
  14. Too far back in your stance?
  15. Yeah that is the case. It's a hazard. Many people forget that.
  16. Only on 9 (34), but it was in a H.S. match so I take great pride that I didn't fall apart! lol.
  17. Congrats to Oosthuizen. He played really well, and like most "journey-men" leaders, he never cracked. I salute him for that. With that said, I'd have to say that was one of the more boring Major Championships I've seen in a while. Not a lot of great golf shots (really because of the wind) and not a lot of big names atop the leaderboard, and it really was never close much of the way.
  18. This right here^. The teacher I had no success with didn't seem to be able to demonstrate it at all, and wouldn't really make much sense. He'd just kind of throw out "No, you didn't do it there or Yes you did." And, honestly, I had no idea what the differences were! But my new teacher takes immediate video of me in the first 5 minutes, we go watch it, then the next 30-40 minutes are directed at trying to work on specifically what we saw in the video. It's worked wonders thus far.
  19. I've actually done this before, Carl. Numerous times on my home club's range. Expect...mine just brought teh entire rope out of the ground, and it didn't hit me in the face at all. It just got everyone on the range near me to give me a bad look. Hahahaha.
  20. That really sucks man. Yeah, you can really forget about that thing being turned in. Which is really pathetic. If I found it in the cart I definitely would've returned it to the pro shop. That's really low.
  21. Practice rounds are, well, practice rounds. It's not as fun (IMO) to go to practice rounds as it is the real thing when the players are really focused. However, for kids it can be really cool. Last year I went to The Barclay's practice round which was my first practice round, and 2nd overall PGA tournament. I didn't enjoy it as much as the regular round, but it was cool getting about 20 autographs and a lot of pictures of the players. But, at the same time, guys didn't always play their balls out, they'd drop like 4 balls down on the green and putt for 10-15 minutes on each hole...it got kind of boring to see no competitive spirit or anything out there. It's more fun to go Thur - Sun but I think the kids may really enjoy the practice round.
  22. until you get out there. lol.
  23. I've taken a total of about 6 or 7 golf lessons in my life from 3 different teachers. One guy was more of an old school teacher, but a good one, he could also play (shot mid to high 60's, I knew he was a player...he could actually play right and lefty)... The next guy was the Head Pro at my club. He was not a great golfer, he shot in the high 70's, low 80's. He wasn't awful, but wasn't really what I expected from a teaching pro when I played with him. He was not a good teacher either, I learned absolutely nothing. The guy I work with now is a golf magazine top 100 teacher, and I can see why. i've taken two lessons from him and i've improved so much it's incredible. He's completely got me from going from a high, fade/slice with no distance to hitting the ball on a low, draw/hook trajectory and added about 10 yards to each club, and 15 yards to the driver. The guys with the resumes, I've found in my experience, really have that top 100 tag for a reason. He can just explain it to me and uses the video software to the point that makes changing my swing rather easy.
  24. You're mom won't just drop you off and get rid of you? lol its only a few miles away. not like it's an hour ride... and why don't you just go later in the day when your mom is up
  25. I didn't see this. I'll check it out if they show highlight.s.
