  1. Heavy rain's the only thing that scares me away. I've played rounds here in the Northwest when it's 20 degrees and lightly snowing with winds and had a great time. Light rain is okay but when it's really pouring down..... nah get out of here I ain't tryin to be all wet.
  2. 290 No whammies!
  3. If you really want to learn how to work your big stick I propose an alternate experiment: driver only round. No irons or wedges or putter. Just driver.
  4. Yesterday shot 105, 27 holes. 69 on the first 18 then a parred the last 9 holes. Rained pretty much the whole time but I hit it great and it was a lot of fun playing with my dad.
  5. Played a quick nine tonight, shot two over with 9 GIR. Either it was just one of those days or someone needs to hit up the practice green.
  6. Hate playing by myself. I only go out alone when I know I'm going to get paired up with other people. A big part of the game for me is enjoying it in the company of others. When I'm with other people I tend to get more excited when I hit great shots, and less frustrated when I goof up. When I'm by myself I guess I feel like it doesn't matter because no one is there to see my shots, good and bad. Practicing though is a different story. Very rarely I will play a few holes by myself hitting multiple balls as others have mentioned but that's not really playing. Plus, gotta have someone there to see your aces and albatrosses or they didn't happen!
  7. Only 5 rounds since mid-May when I got out of school. Didn't play at all the beginning of the year but I'm hoping I can figure out a way to play a ton this summer. It's kind of depressing now that I have a 9-5 and can't play for free (used to work at a course).
  8. I'd like to see my swing in slo-mo some time but I'm scared of what I'll find, as the thread title suggests. I've never really had lessons or swing coaching at all, it's pretty much self developed via years of practice and watching others. Not that it would make a pro coach barf or anything but I bet I have some funky quirks in there.
  9. 36/52, years ago. It started on the 10th hole after I got a lost ball and had to run back to the tee to hit again (it was a tournament). That got me all flustered and I played like a big baby for the rest of the round. I'm going to guess the "shoot good front nine then collapse epically on the back" routine is a bit more common then the other way around.
  10. I've come really close. Only a month or two ago actually. On a short par 4, my second shot from about 50 yards slammed into the cup then popped back out and came to rest about 10 feet from the hole. It was pretty neat to see because I'd never done that before. Wish it would have stayed. Here's a video of Michael Jordan dunking one: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DE12k6XIKnM
  11. I strained my latissimus dorsi (I think) a few years ago while hitting balls on the range. I didn't go to a doctor or anything but I couldn't bend for a couple weeks. It sucked. I stretch a lot now before I swing.
  12. Way to go, that is an admirable achievement. Hopefully soon you will be disappointed with that score.

  14. One of the ways I learned to play was with my dad and grandfather on a short par 3 course. There were six holes and they were all 100 yards or less so it was perfect for kids. If I remember correctly I was only around 5 when I started playing on this course. If there is something like that near you I'd really recommend it. Another good idea would be to have him tee off on each hole from 150 yards. I did this for a while when I was little too and really enjoyed it.
  15. I wouldn't worry about what tees are blue or white or whatever, just look on the scorecard and find which tees are set at the distance you want to play. For a 15+ handicap I would say anything around 6,200 yards give or take a couple hundred would be appropriate. On your average golf course this will usually be the middle (white) tees. Although I've played shorter courses where the blue tees (back) are only about 6200, and middle tees (white) less than 6000. In a case like this I would say play from the blue tees.
  16. I'm with Scott Verplank on this one. If they play smart and just try to keep it in the fairway with irons and go for bogey on every hole that would really eliminate a lot of chances for 7's and 8's which would be key to breaking 100. I don't think they'll do this though. There will be a lot of wasted shots from the rough, and definitely a bunch of 3 and even 4 putts.
  17. 21, with two chip ins and only three or four GIR.
  18. I use 52 and 60. I used a 56 for a while, but got rid of it. I just didn't like it. I just started hitting the 52 a couple years ago and I'm in love with it now. My 60 is amazing. I've had the same club for ~8 years and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The only time I run into any real trouble is 80-90 yards where 60 won't get there unless I hit it pretty hard (which I don't want to do), but I can usually take care if it pretty well with my 52.
  19. I like it, and I wish more people would say it. In fact, it should be required.

Never in a round where I'm keeping score. Sometimes I'll play 9 holes or so and hit multiple shots from spots, or even play a couple balls in if I can just for the practice.
  21. I practice it, and can do it confidently. It's a nice shot to have. It's not a shot that comes up often though. I only play it in strong wind or really long holes without much trouble. I've reached a couple long par 5's I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
  22. On a flat hole with no wind or any other significant variables, 4 iron.
  23. N/A, because I've never had a professional lesson. Other than my dad having introduced me to the game and originally teaching me how to play when I was a kid, I've learned only through experience and reading books. Because of this I feel I have a pretty decent understanding of the mechanics of golf, and can quite easily identify and work to correct problems in my swing and other areas of the game. Don't have anything against lessons, of course, it's just not something I've ever done.
  24. One under 71 today, a great score for me. Course was easy though (71.6/113).
  25. Believe it or not I've managed 72 in a day. Me and a high school buddy did it a few years ago. We weren't playing fast and even had a few people join us along the way, but we basically had the course to ourselves for the first couple rounds and it was moving very smoothly later in the day. Started around 8 AM and finished just after sunset.
