I was using the ten finger grip last season but have gravitated to using the interlock. I felt that I was pulling the ball a little more than I like, though everything feels so solidly hit. The biggest con or concern for me was the amount of stress it places on my right pinky. I have strong hands, but the pain was enough to tell me that I either am not used to it or its not for me. So I use it mostly on chips around the green.

Need a new 3 wood — want something classic
mpb1472 replied to citizenzen's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I also recommend V-steel.Others to consider are Cleveland Launcher or Tour Edge CB or XCG series. -
Went to the heated range the past two weeks focusing on turning more. My bad shot is a pull hook. When I thought of moving my right hip back and turning behind me to the target I stuck the ball much better without pull hooks. Took away my focus on front side turning. Hope it is something constructive and lasting for my swing.

To 2/3 iron or not....that is the question.
mpb1472 replied to Holdaway03's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
There are so many styles of 3 hybrids out there that I think you should sort through. Certainly, one of them will be easier to hit consistently well than a 3 iron. There are some more iron-like and some more wood-like, whichever you prefer. I like to hit an old 2 iron I have but it is not as forgiving and versatile as a hybrid so it's in the garage. Good luck. -
Sure it was a dumb call but the Seahawks only got that close after that ridiculous miracle catch. It was a great game with a lot of twists and turns. Well done Patriots! Anyone here think that most of the commercials were bad. I mean, "Cats in the cradle " song is about bad fathering and we see a good father's actions. Made no sense. Admitted Pats and Brady fan here that was initially disturbed by all the recent "deflate gate " news enough that I felt less inclined to defend them. Much of the contempt stems from the success they have achieved and the persona of the head coach, so they are an easy target. I am not happy that their legacy will always be tainted no matter what they do. It's sad in away that whatever good or great is there no one wants to see it or believe it. One thing that I find utterly ridiculous is this idea that Brady is affected more than others by getting hit. None of them handle it well but Big Ben. Taking away Brady's space and the lanes disrupts his timing is what the Giants did well and any team that has beat them. He worked on lateral movement and being more mobile for this season and it showed. He is much tougher than given credit for and is truly one of the greats. Go Pats!

Thoroughly enjoyed Taken 3. Good story and love the action. Made better by the presence of Liam Neeson. A solid birdie.

Shorter (Probably Better) Swing? Keep the Right Arm Straight
mpb1472 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Great topic. I wonder which way is better, trying to keep left elbow straight or trying to keep right elbow less bent on backswing. I know there are training aids for either one. Both ways create tension I don't normally have but could be a good one to help me turn more. I am plagued with a poor left shoulder turn so perhaps by focusing on one or the other I might turn my body more and use less arms. I will work on this at the heated driving range today. Its all I can do in CT right now.- 133 replies

Do Not Use a Heavy Club or Weighted Donuts
mpb1472 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Very interesting topic. Having come from a baseball background and then playing softball for over 25 years i always looked for ways to increase power. Back in my baseball days, a donut was commonly used in the on deck circle by almost everyone. Mostly to loosen up and it was important to take a few dry swings after using it or your timing would be off. So I never thought of it as a way to increase bat speed. Fast forward to my years of softball. Now in slow pitch you have to supply more of the power so it behooved you to get stronger somehow. So powerlifting did help in that regard. I did use a swing fan on off days as I got older but I did not see any better results. What did help though is a routine alluded to in this thread. Heavy- regular-light swings, 3 sets of 15 reps each on non-playing days. I placed foam with duct tape to make a heavy bat, used a whiffle ball bat with a little tape on it for the light bat. I did see some more pop in my swing . Unscientific for sure but I saw its value. I have an orange whip trainer but I use it for loosening up. -
Fury- eagle. Pitt delivers. Like Redford as he has aged he looks more rugged and is believable in this role. The tightness and bond of a small unit warts and all is portrayed well.

I most certainly will. Thanks.

iacas and mvmac, I did work on the setup you advised and had my best ball striking season with irons. It was a tougher to adhere to when I used a driver though. I'll be honest reverting back to an old habit may have felt better ( left foot straight/ right foot flared open)trying to hit a draw. Although, I reported in the foot flare thread some success, topping the ball did happen a little more than I liked. Thanks again for your help.

Why Flaring Your Feet at Address Makes Golf Easier
mpb1472 replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
iacas, I should have clarified my post better. The setup I described was done with my driver in a closed stance. Reverting to what felt comfortable I guess. Your reference to my swing and your advice was adhered to in my iron setup. I had my best ball striking with irons in years. I should have reported back sooner to tell you that and thanked you. -
Why Flaring Your Feet at Address Makes Golf Easier
mpb1472 replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
Through experimentation of my own, I like to flare my right (back) foot and keep my left (front) foot straight or less flared. I know its the opposite of what is commonly taught but it seems to work for me. When I also flare out my left foot I come out of the shot easier and don't release the club as well. My left foot ends up more open in follow through so I spinout a bit but ball contact and ball flight are better. My right foot flared helps with a deeper backswing, straight I come over the top more. It makes for less strain and makes golf easier for sure. -
Driver- off inside of left heel Fairway woods- off logo of shirt Long irons-off left cheek Short irons- middle of my stance Wedges-one ball back of middle I tend to come out shots with early extension so a little back helps me stay down and through better.

How to Draw the Golf Ball (or How to Stop Slicing)
mpb1472 replied to mvmac's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Excellent post. Especially, the video accompaniment. You are so right about how closing the face in all the ways you often hear about is not the way to do it. I tend to setup in a partially closed stance to get the right path but the ball will stay there or fade a little. I come out of it a bit. I am going to work on this. Thanks. -

Herman Williams, Martin Chuck, and golf evolution ones are very good. -
Recently, went to the 10 finger grip from the interlock. Ball striking has improved enormously. I am not not fiddling with my grip as much and can stay connected through the ball better. As for you. 1. You may want to add wraps under the right hand. For comfort, or maybe to lessen right hand release. 2. Potentially. There is no hindrance to your game using this grip other than what others think or that it did not work for them. I don't know how old you are or how much time you have to improve but you can experiment enough to know if its the one for you. 3. Credibility? If you are hitting the ball well, everyone will know it. That is all that matters. What they think or do should not matter to you if you are better with it. 4. Yes, I would trust a teaching pro who uses the 10 finger grip. Three of the best players I know use it. My friends don't even know I switched to it a month ago, but they are noticing how well I am striking the ball.

How to Grip a Golf Club, Commonalities of a Functional Golf Grip
mpb1472 replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
What a difference in my iron play by stretching my left thumb down more. Before, I never thought much about it and wondered why my right hand never seems to stay in place on follow through.I have large, proximal knuckles on my thumbs so with a short thumb, my right hand slips off easy. Ball flight has a little tail to the right, missing greens on well struck balls. When I placed the left thumb in a more stretched position, I am able to cover it better with my right hand and it stays connected better. I don't stretch it as far as in pics and video here but it being longer now has created a much straighter shot. The hinging and release are improved. Thanks. -
Great stuff! I tend to think of my right rear shoulder turning behind head but I think it leaves hips not turning enough. Does focusing on right rear pocket only make it work better?

Big Phil fan here. Although, I like what he said, I feel better with him on the team. He is like another coach of sorts. He gets juiced up playing with a younger teammate alongside him. He still is the most exciting player to watch in my opinion.

I see him do it and wonder why he does it that way. I think its getting the club under the heel pad and in a strong position. I've done it but not sure I do it just like he does or its effectiveness. -
I wish her the best of luck. Sure she was easy to look but she showed knowledge and enthusiasm to go along with it.

Does club length have anything to do with posture? If say a club is a 1/2" over length or under length. Would that affect how much you bend or straighten up? Do you just adapt rightly or wrongly to club length?
