13 car companies want to make it illegal to work on your car.
neophytea replied to saevel25's topic in The Grill Room
I went to one dealer to get regular scheduled maintenance. From the time I drove in the lot till I drove out of the lot after the work was done was 95 minutes. The interesting part was that I was charged for 3 unit hours of labor. I called the manufacturer and they said they had no responsibility and I should take my car to another dealer. I took a car to another dealer for maintenance. I was able to walk around back and look in the service area. To my surprise each mechanic had two bays and was working on two cars at the same time. So the unit hours of labor and clock hours would be the same. these new laws will make the manufacturer jointly responsible with dealerships that gyp customers. -
Penalty for Giving Advice After a Round is Complete
neophytea replied to socalsharky's topic in Rules of Golf
1. To apply rules and penalties in scholastic competition is a serious responsibility. 2. To incorrectly apply penalties that benefit yourself or your team is a conflict of interest and simply stated wrong. 3. An independent third party or committee should have that authority and responsibility. 3. I have been responsible for the enforcement of rules in high school completion at the local, section, regional, and state championships. If what I heard is correct, that coach who disqualified the golfer would be in real danger of being banned for his conflict of interest. And all coaches and reps of the sport present would have been chewed out for their actions. The honor and integrity of the sport is paramount. -
All we have to do is look at the records. Jack, Arnold, Billy Casper, Trevino, Larry Nelson, Faldo, all could win more than 50%. Tiger is better than any of them, Phil is just as good as most on my list. So, why can't they do as good as Jack, Arnold, Billy Casper, Trevino, Larry Nelson, Faldo? Arnold played successfully for Hogan. And they were like oil and water. We don't know all the facts.

Why do we have to keep allowing losers to keep qualifying? Why are the top players in the world unable to win over half their games? If my memory serves me correctly, Tiger complained that Ryder cup dinners, and media events interfered with his preparations to play and win, and he was told to zip it - that the media events were just as important as winning.

How are we ever going to win if we keep using players with long term losing records? A good player may have a bad year, but not every year. We need players who put more red than blue on the board. How are we ever going to win if we keep using players with long term losing records for leadership positions? There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part we should avoid players who put blue on the boards. Europe doesn't need players on the American team.

How many of us are young, married, with children and struggling to make $36,000 a year. Most of the people in that group are taking care of important things first. How many of us could pay our bills if we only brought home $2000 a month and still go golfing? Try to take your wife and child to a Disney movie, MacDonald's, and an ice cream cone. Bet you it costs them a days take home. Creation of jobs that are not "living wage jobs" do not permit anyone to do much of anything.

Should all cheaters be punished?

What about cheating in baseball? What about cheating in football? What about cheating on your wife? What about cheating on your husband? What about cheating on tests in school?

At the level of the best pros, a good pro can be given 20 identical drivers according to manufactured specifications and the pro can consistently find one of the 20 to be worst of the whole 20 sample. And can consistent spot one that is better than the rest. Technically there are small differences that most golfers cannot discern, but the better golfers can pick out.

I wonder if she was pressured to leave golf channel? At the PGA show in Orlando, she stood by herself or sat by herself when she wasn't on camera. I wonder if the rest of the Morning Drive gang threw her a "We'll Miss You" going away party?

Sliced a ball into an expensive window. Did I do the right thing?
neophytea replied to Michael Lee's topic in Golf Talk
First problem is not having homeowners and personal liability insurance that protects you and your family. Second problem is not being able to discuss this with your parents. Third problem is that these cases can and do end up in court. Even though the window could cost a couple of hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars, your lawyer fees will probably be ten times that. Hearing fees, billables, and filing fees add up fast with a decent to good lawyer. The average person needs to understand that Courts are "courts of law and not "courts of what is right". As a golfer I found that to be protected, I had to get Cart insurance, personal liability insurance, as well as having special riders added to my home owners insurance. Total cost around $200 per year. Much cheaper than the alternative. . -
If you are forced to defend your life like my cousin. Do you realize he had to go to court and prove that he had no other choice, but to take a life. The court found that his actions were justified. His legal bills nearly bankrupt the whole family. You can't afford the legal bills after protecting yourself or your family. Sometimes your family might be better off if you are killed.

Is it time for a real-world alternative to the USGA?
neophytea replied to tucsonsean's topic in Golf Talk
The rules of golf are a game within a game. just like the IRS rules. If I call the IRS about a deduction, they tell me up front that they won't guarantee their answer is right. How would you like to have the traffic laws to be written like the rules of golf? Wasn't it the USGA that got a rule wrong at the Solheim I think? If the experts at the USGA can't get the rules correct how can normal people be expected to get them right? If we need hundreds of pages of rules and decisions, we have swamped the boat of common sense. -
Wasn't it Casey Martin who used the disability and right to work laws to compete on the PGA. What if the court says that Players with bad backs (Physical disabilities) and the yips (Mental disabilities) must be allowed to compete on the PGA tour? At work I have seen people who hired special disability lawyers, went to court and are now working in jobs that astonish me. And these cases are all hidden behind confidentiality agreements and health privacy laws so no one knows what is happening. Are there any disability lawyers on here who can answer this question?

We don't set aside a time when new golfers like our children and wives are welcomed to play our course. It is surprising how many golfers are rude to new golfers who don't yet play fast golf. How many of us can get our wives and adult daughters to golf if they are going to be publically criticized. We want more wives and daughters to take up golf, but the rude complainers still make them unwelcome. I have called courses and asked when to take out adult beginners who have taken a full set of lessons from the pros and practiced on the practice range. There are no executive or par 3 courses withing an hours drive. When my brother in law and I took out his two gran daughters, who were Division I field hockey players. We were told by the PRO that the late afternoon on Wednesday would be a good time to take the 22 year old girls out to play. We had trouble playing in the afternoon because of several twosomes who were playing biathlon (Speed) golf. Even though we invited them to play through they still criticized the college girls to their faces for playing too slow and holding them up from finishing their speed rounds. We still finished 18 holes in 4 hours and 25 minutes.

At the driving range some guy I barely knew walked up to my bag and took my new ping driver out without a word and started to put a ball on a T to hit. I asked him why he doesn't ask before touching my equipment? He got mad and started yelling at me for being rude and selfish. I wanted to ask where his car was parked and was his wife home but I kept quiet. Ruined my day. Can't understand why I was upset, but I was.

What is this all about? Is this true? Why does the government make more that phil does? Phil Mickelson talks taxes, 'drastic changes' Larry Bohannan, USA TODAY Sports 9:32p.m. EST January 20, 2013 Quote: Phil Mickelson tied for 37th in the Humana Challenge, his 2013 season debut. Story Highlights Phil Mickelson closed with a 66 and tied for 37th at the Humana Challenge In comments afterward, Mickelson hinged that drastic changes were possible "My tax rate's 62, 63 percent. So I've got to make some decisions on what I'm going to do" LA QUINTA, Calf. — Phil Mickelson started his 2013 PGA Tour season at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation with a tie for 37th place. But after a final-round 66, Mickelson did more than hint that the 2014 season may see some big changes for the World Golf Hall of Famer. "Well, it's been an interesting offseason. And I'm going to have to make some drastic changes," Mickelson said at the Palmer Course at PGA West in La Quinta. "I'm not going to jump the gun and do it right away, but I will be making some drastic changes." Pressed for details, Mickelson said he couldn't say if the changes will include moving from San Diego. "I'm not sure what exactly I'm going to do yet. I'll probably talk about it more in-depth later this week (The Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego)," he said. It became clear that part of what Mickelson is concerned about is the tax structure in the state and in the country. "There are going to be some drastic changes for me because I happen to be in that zone that has been targeted both federally and by the state and it doesn't work for me right now," Mickelson said. While Mickelson didn't state specifics, increases in federal taxes under the deal to avoid the fiscal cliff in Washington D.C. and the passage of Prop. 30 in California in November to raise money for school funding have all increased taxes on the wealthy class. "If you add up all the federal and you look at the disability and the unemployment and the Social Security and the state, my tax rate's 62, 63 percent. So I've got to make some decisions on what I'm going to do." Mickelson said the changes he is thinking about caused him to withdraw from potential minority ownership of the San Diego Padres. And he said he will be more open to questions about his future and cutting back on his schedule this week. "San Diego is where a lot more things, it's where I live, it's where the Padres thing was a possibility, and it's where my family is," Mickelson said. "And it just seems like a better fit than right here off of 18 on Palm Springs." Mickelson's quotes from the press conference: Q. When you're asked about Stricker's semi retirement, with the political situation the last couple months, blah, blah, blah, what did you mean by that? Do you find it an unsettling time in a way? PHIL MICKELSON : Well, it's been an interesting offseason. And I'm going to have to make some drastic changes. I'm not going to jump the gun and do it right away, but I will be making some drastic changes. Q. Meaning leaving from California? PHIL MICKELSON : I'm not sure. Q. Moving to Canada? PHIL MICKELSON : I'm not sure what exactly, you know, I'm going to do yet. I'll probably talk about it more in depth next week. I'm not going to jump the gun, but there are going to be some. There are going to be some drastic changes for me because I happen to be in that zone that has been targeted both federally and by the state and, you know, it doesn't work for me right now. So I'm going to have to make some changes. Q. Is that a correlation between that and what happened to the Padres? PHIL MICKELSON : Yeah. Q. With you? PHIL MICKELSON : Absolutely. Q. So why do you say next week? What is going to happen so drastic next week? PHIL MICKELSON : No, but I'll probably be in the media center and I'll probably be a little more open to it because San Diego is where a lot more things, it's where I live, it's where the Padre thing was a possibility, and it's where my family is. And it just seems like a better fit than right here off of 18 on Palm Springs. Q. Is it a stance that you are taking because on the one hand, you've made a lot of money, and no matter how much they take out, you are left with a lot of money? PHIL MICKELSON : Yeah. I'll probably go into it more next year or next week. But if you add up, if you add up all the federal and you look at the disability and the unemployment and the Social Security and the state, my tax rate's 62, 63 percent. So I've got to make some decisions on what I'm going to do. Q. How do you balance that against the TOUR's retirement plan which by all standards is the best retirement plan in sports? PHIL MICKELSON : I don't understand. What do you mean? Q. Well, I mean I understand the 60 percent part of the equation, but in the TOUR's plan, you guys put about as much money aside as you want. It's treated differently under tax laws than most anybody else's tax plans. Where most people can only put away $45,000 or $50,000, you guys can put as much away as you want. And so at the end you guys end up with a much larger pot of gold than most people can. PHIL MICKELSON : But when it comes out, it's still taxed at the same 62 percent rate. Q. Well, you're still making that kind of money. That's if you're still in that bracket . PHIL MICKELSON : (No response.) Bohannan writes for The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif.

Anchored Putters Rules Change (Effective January 1, 2016)
neophytea replied to mvmac's topic in Rules of Golf
The "powers to be" want to keep viewership and attendance figures as high as possible. This rule would make it easier for Tiger, Rory, and Phil to be winners or at least in contention on Sunday. If Tiger, Rory, or Phil can't win attendance and viewership numbers will be down, Do you think this would be considered if Tiger used an anchored long putter? -
I would like to see him take four or five of the girls from the last big break and help them make the tour.

If you get any kind of record it will follow you the rest of your life. Will probably cost you good jobs. I had a guy sign up to student teach under me. He had served 4 years in the Marines and in Desert Storm. Plus was graduating with honors in education. Unfortunately he had a retail theft conviction before he went into the Marines. My district would not let anyone with a record student teach or even consider hiring them. I know another guy who got in a fight and knocked out his opponent. Was convicted of assault. He has been told several times that he is being rejected for good jobs because of his record. Be cautious of getting a record.

We all get the best jobs we can so we can support our families. None of us would quit working and let our families down because we are not the best _________ in our business. I would work two 8 hour a day jobs at minimum wage in order to take care of my family. And I think all of us would do the same for our families. But in never never land, would I make $500,000 a year and not be recognized as one of the best golfers by winning on the PGA tour? I even dreamed that I would like to be one of the best golfers in the world and be just barely good enough to qualify to go to Q school even if I didn't make it to the tour. Realistically those losers on the PGA Tour could play a round at any of the courses I play and probably break the course record by several shots. If that doesn't mean they are one of the best, what does? One of the announcers on Morning Break said that if you and I played fifteen years on the tour and made fifteen cuts a year we would each have $100,000,000 in our own pension plan. How rich is rich enough. And what is the purpose of a Job? If I can take care of my family's basic financial needs, and my family loves and respects me, I will consider myself to be one of the best men in the world,

Don't leave the T before the last person hits. And don't tell the last person to hurry up since you are waiting in the cart while he is hitting.

In the 70's in the Team meetings, the Steelers had great fun razzing the players who got praised in the media for pulling off a spectacular play when they had just messed up their assignment. They also seemed to take delight in confusing the media and other teams. Technically Franco Harris was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he made the "Immaculate Reception". Terry Bradshaw had the reputation that no one including his teammates knew what he was going to do. But half the time he burned the other team and at the same time kept the opposing defense off their game plan trying to keep his screw ups from burning them. In my words the steelers like to create chaos and confusion in the game plans of the other team.
