If you could change ONE rule, what would it be?
Thrdroc replied to Q.Q.Quillume's topic in Rules of Golf
There are plenty of courses that don't have the mix on the carts. What about people that walk, you want them to carry the mix around with them. Also, not every divot is a clean divot (with a 1/2" off dirt underneath) and even if they are, a lot of times, its replaced and doesn't take so the grass dies and it becomes a divot again. -
Do you ever go to the range with your friends? If you do, make bets with them on your first couple shots on who can put it closet to a certain green or hazard. That gives you a sense of urgency that you can carry from the range to the course. I always on the first hole at least, if not 2 or 3 holes, try to play very conservative. On the first tee, hit your 3 wood, or hybrid, then on your 2nd shot if you have trouble hitting 5 iron up, even if the shot requires it, use your 6 or 7 iron and just pitch on. Just getting loosened up on the first hole and hitting solid shots does wonders.

That truly is the reason. I on Sunday at Oakmont, I was on 18's green with a friend. He yelled it even for tap in. He recorded it on his dvr and went hom to see if you could here him. You can.

If you could change ONE rule, what would it be?
Thrdroc replied to Q.Q.Quillume's topic in Rules of Golf
At first I thought that changing the OB rules would be ideal with just dropping at the point which the ball goes out but then that doesn't really penalize the big hitters. They can walk up, hit their huge slice 270 yards, be 80 out, pitch up and putt in for a par. The course I played a lot was only stakes on 2 holes. Your scores go down too much for not dropping where the ball went out. The only rule i would change is being able to clean your ball on the fringe. How many times do you have a big chunk of dirt on your ball and the pin is well with in putting range but you wont make it because of the dirt. -
That is a really good article. For everyone thinking that there weren't enough people, 10 in each category would have been enough to show the differences between each group. With 20 people in each group, you can really start to quantify. With the 70 some people in each group (like done in the article), the stats are about what you would expect in general. Even in you could somehow chart every golfer in the World you should be pretty close to what he got from his survey.

I shot a 45 yesterday with my game falling apart on me. I really wish i didn't have to take those weeks off.

It depends on what needs to be done to the clubs. If you just need longer or shorter shafts it should be quicker. If you need clubs that are bent it will probably take longer unless they in stock. Earlier in the season i ordered +1 1/2 inches and 3* up irons and it took one and half weeks with 2 day shipping.
-
I had a day like this yesterday. I was slicing all my clubs. I never slice irons so i had no clue what was going on.
-
I play about 9 holes twice a week and 18 once a week. I try to get to the range on the other days.

Well the typical par 4 is what like 350-375 yards. That means i'd hit 175 of the tee so i can lay up for it. I would much rather hit driver and be under 100 yards to the green. I mean i am an 18 handicap. Shorter shots are always better.
-
To fix the driver you will probably need a new shaft with a lower kick point.
-
For me its a my 6i. When I hit it, it has that nice rising trajectory and just drops right in on target nice and soft. I don't get to hit it too often because there aren't many holes where after my drive I'm still 200 out.
-
Well the reason I really wouldn't look at the percentiles of certain handicap groups is because say you hit 24% of GIR's for your handicap and you improve that by say 5-10%, in all reality you are not going to be the same handicap for long. Also say your GIRs goes up 10% then your Fairways hit goes down 10% via comparing yourself with that method its not as valuable. That 10% change for both could be only a 0.5 increase and decrease for both. If you really want to improve your game by tracking your numbers, take those raw numbers you get like how many greens you hit and your fairways hit and key for our level of handicap is scrambling and watch them over time. After 10 or so rounds you can really see what you need to improve.
-
Well with numbers like you provided above, people on the site can actually give you input on where you should start with improving your game. We can't actually tell you what you need to improve or where you should start when your stats just say where you rank with all other 19 handicaps. I don't really understand why you are comparing yourself to other like handicaps though, I know I don't really want to see where I would compare with other handicaps like mine. I want to see what I can improve to get my handicap down.

I walked 9 holes Monday and Tuesday in 90+ weather with ungodly humidity. I mean when i got thirsty all i had to do was eat some air. It did get a little annoying though because any shot past about 200 yards and you couldn't really see the ball land so there was a lot of guess work on where the ball wound up.

I will use what ever works for me best. I'm not scared to change to something although I do have trouble switching to something not name brand.
-
When my friends and I play for money or drinks, everything must be putt out. We have the rule that if everyone else in the group that is betting OK's the putt then its good but if i'm in the group that never happens. I know i've missed plenty of

Which Wedge Do You Use Most Often?
Thrdroc replied to FutureSound's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use my 60* for anything really inside of 80 yards. If i have a lot of pin to work with i'll use my 56* or 52*. I am starting the process of switching to using my 56* more often though because i've been chunking to many lob wedge shots. -
No real suggestion can be made until you post your average club distances.

My best moment was the during my first year of playing golf. It was like my 4th or 5th time actually out on the course. We are playing a really short course with no par 5's over 500 yards. The first par 5 we come to is 388 from the whites. At about 200 yards there is a downhill slope with a stream running through so all average players have to lay up or deal with the water on the fly. I hit my driver and wound up in the flat about 5 feet from the stream. This puts me about 180 out up hill to the green. I hit my 4 or 5 iron (its been 8 years so i can't remember the club) perfect right where the green is. We get up there and can't find my ball anywhere. So i figure i must have put it over the green and i drop behind the green and chip up. I go to take the pin out and my ball is sitting in the cup. No one could believe what just happened. It felt great and that is truly the moment that hooked me on golf.

If you can spring for the extra $50 plus tax get the Sumo. Its a great driver.

Setup - clubface - what are you looking at?
Thrdroc replied to cbe_golfer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I look at the leading edge of my club making sure it is square to the target. A lot of times i've noticed that if i'm just slightly closed my draw turns into a serious duck hook. -
I need some wedges.... suggestions?
Thrdroc replied to Scott L's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
What bounce means -
From 2iron to hybrid.. com'on, everyone's doing it..
Thrdroc replied to Gregormendel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have only hit a hybrid one time and i hit it really well. I still dont see the need for one in my bag though. I really do not miss hit my long irons, they might not be on target but they goes the distance I expect out of them 90% of the time. -
The strongest lofted irons i could find.
Thrdroc replied to Clubswinger21's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well that certainly makes sense as to why I instantly gained 10 yards on each club when i got my TM R7's.
