  1. Didn't have much time after work today. I hit about half a bucket of balls, focusing on extensor action and keeping the shaft laid off at the top.
  2. Was able to get out to the range after work tonight. The extensor action drill I've been working appears to be helping me get the club laid off at A4, which has been the priority piece in my lessons. I uploaded new videos to evolvr, so I'm hoping my instructor thinks I'm finally starting to get it right.
  3. Continued working on extensor action, primarily the drill my instructor gave me where I act as if my lead arm is limp, and my right arm is pulling it to the top of the backswing.
  4. Working on extensor action, specifically in the backswing, which is the priority piece from my last evolvr lesson. I am doing pretty good at keeping my elbows together, but I cannot figure out how to get the shaft laid off at A4. From face on, I am not taking the club even to parallel, but from DTL, the only way to make it look laid off is to actively stop myself from hinging my wrists on the backswing. I can't imagine that is correct.
  5. Went to the practice green for another short game session with my friend. He whipped my butt today in our game of horse. I wasn't playing poorly, but he was draining everything. It was all I could do to halve holes with him.
  6. The tournament I was supposed to play in was cancelled , so I played in a shotgun start today. The group I was in played at a quicker pace than the group in front and the group behind us, so I had plenty of opportunities for practicing greenside chipping and bunker shots as well as putting.
  7. I played a practice round today at my home course. Did not score well today. Nothing in particular felt bad, but everything just felt 'blah'.
  8. Well done!
  9. Went to the practice green at lunch and played another round of horse with my friend. I beat him by one letter this time. Again we intentionally chose difficult shots. I chose a number of shots with the ball nestled down in the rough, and also chose one with the ball in the fringe but resting against the rough.
  10. I've been having difficulty (more than usual) with spraying my drives all over the place. I hit a bucket of balls today, mostly with driver. Worked on trying to "find the fairway". I found that I had better results if all or part of the logo was on the back of the ball, and I could focus on hitting the ball in exactly that spot. I've never given any thought to the way I place the ball on the tee, but I am going to give this method a try.
  11. Had a really fun practice session today. A friend met me at the practice green and we played a game of horse. We started with a chip or pitch and then competed to get down in the least amount of strokes. Winner picked the next shot. He is a far better golfer than I, and he beat me by one letter. We both intentionally chose shots that were difficult (e.g. being short sides in the rough). Also, needing to make a 3 footer to halve a hole has a lot more pressure than just lining up putt after putt to the same cup. I think this will translate well to the golf course.
  12. What marking(s) do you put on your golf ball? Is there any particular reason for your marking(s)? I use a line over the default alignment aid, and I draw a star beneath the logo. The alignment aid I use for putting. The star came about when my 3 year old daughter was watching me draw lines on a few sleeves of golf balls. She wanted me to draw on her pink golf balls, so I drew a heart and a star. She was super excited about it, and so then I decided to start adding a star to my golf balls. I ran a search, and it looks like the last time this came up was 2011. I figured it would be better to start fresh than to dig that one out of the archive.
  13. @Golfingdad Even though the design criteria is the same (i.e. 100 year storm), I'd argue the installation techniques are very dissimilar. Instead of drop inlets, catch basins, and piping to convey the water from the site, now we're using bioretention areas (using drain rock, structural soils with a predetermined perc. rate, etc) to keep it onsite. Interesting how many engineers have posted in this thread. Alas, I'm just lowly contractor Interesting fact from my line of work: Asphalt is one of the most recycled materials in the world. Many of the roads you drive on are paved with old asphalt that was ground up and made into new asphalt. Old tires are ground up and make their way into the asphalt as well.
  14. I broke 90. Hoping I will replace it with "broke 80" sometime this year.
  15. Going to get back on the daily practice train. I've got my first tournament this weekend, so I have stopped filming my swing for the week and am focusing on getting the most out of my current game. Yesterday I went to the practice green on my lunch and worked on chipping from various lies to different targets. After work, I went and hit a bucket of balls. I had to fight the urge to work on my most recent evolvr lesson. Today I went back to the practice green on my lunch and worked on both short putts (4-8' range), and also lag putting (30'-50' range). With the latter, my goal was to not three putt.
  16. I used to have the first tee jitters, but I've learned to let them go. My home course is a par 5 and has a pretty wide open tee shot, which has helped majorly. I voted "Tee shot when offered to play through a group". I play solo more than I'd like, and get offered to play through fairly often. I can't avoid feeling rushed on the tee box and approach shot. Par threes are the worst place for me to play through, because then I rush my putts as well. A close second is for me is playing with a person (or people) of significance. I'm not nervous to play with strangers for the first time, but if it is someone I know or know of (who is a better golfer than I), I feel the pressure to perform well. I can't say I like the feeling of that pressure, but I have noticed my best rounds have been in these situations. I believe the pressure forces me to really focus on every shot.
  17. Walker and Snedeker saved me this week! I thought I was toast...
  18. Man, I'm dying on the vine this tournament. Both of my A guys, one B guy, and one C guy missed the cut. Wasn't expecting Phil and Rickie to have the weekend off...
  19. When your primary footwear is a pair of spikeless golf shoes.
  20. I've never joined a fantasy league. Hope you guys don't mind if I give this one a go!
  21. As much as I hope it rains like crazy this winter, I just hope it will hold off long enough for me to break 90! We're starting to get more rain up here in the north bay.
  22. My biggest improvement this year has been my driver. When I started, my drives were only going 200-210 with a bad slice. My hybrid would travel the same distance with a much straighter flight, so I didn't carry a driver for a number of months this year. I struggled with rounds where I wasn't hitting my hybrid well, which left me with no good option off the tee, and some ugly scores to match. I knew that I could not continue in this fashion, so I forced myself to learn to hit driver. After much practice, I am currently averaging 240 yards on my drives (long of 270), according to Game Golf. I have also minimized my slice with this club--if the ball is heading right it is more of a push than a slice. Having confidence on the tee box has been huge for me.
  23. Roughly 40 since April. I should be able to get a few more in before the end of the year. I'm hoping to break 90 before the year is over.
  24. I am new again to golf as of April this year (played for about a year in 2011). I am right on the cusp of breaking 90, and am confident I will do so by the end of this year. For 2016, my goals are to shoot consistently in the 80s/low 90s, and eliminate any scores that have 3 digits. I'd also like to break 80 in 2016. I plan to achieve these goals by continuing evolvr lessons, applying what I've learned in Lowest Score Wins, and being diligent in practice. Eliminating blowup holes will go a long way towards these goals I believe.
