  1. I only caught bits and pieces of the Tiger match but it didn't look like he was playing that bad to me. was it really all on him or is it typical overreaction?
  2. not many people are going to know swing speeds for those clubs. Typically when someone says their clubhead speed its assumed to be with the Driver and nothing else.
  3. What if a rock is used as a yardage marker, say 150 yards? I've played several courses that have done something like that. Would have to be allowed to move your ball I'd assume.
  4. No one who is a captain's pick has earned their place on the team. That's why they are captain's picks. If anyone has a problem with it they should have played better and got on the team by points. They are Freddie's picks and he can do with them as he pleases. I love how you mentioned the Adam Scott pick was "good faith" yet Tiger isn't? You have no problem showing Adam Scott good faith but you do with Tiger? Fred Couples believe's in Tiger. Period. Or he wouldn't have put him on the team. He has a hell of a lot more of a proven track record than Adam ****ing Scott.
  5. If you are a new golfer and want to get better you will need to learn to hit the fairway woods anyway, so why not tee off with the 3wood or Driver? If it isn't a tournament round I see little point in doing this.
  6. Most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen on a golf course. That one physically hurt.
  7. Realistically this whole notion of amateurism in golf is a crock (at least at top level amateur ranks) These people come from incredibly wealthy families quite often and have had top level instruction since they were children. There's nothing noble in being an amateur (I groan everytime I hear about Bobby Jones being an amateur, he was wealthy enough to be able to afford that, not everyone has that luxury). You want to see amateurs, go to your local muni. Those top flight amateurs wouldn't be caught dead out at the courses the majority of us play.
  8. Im from Lansing but just recently moved to Rochester Hills and am looking for golf buddies if anyone is out there =) As far as michigan courses, Ive played a ton of low-mid range ones in central/western michigan. I haven't played many out here yet. Id definately recommend Thornapple to anyone going out near Grand Rapids. Its a beautiful course that isnt crazy expensive (50-60$) and the first par 5 on the front nine that is ~600 yards and goes along the river is beautiful. Its a great course. St Ives and Tulley are nice, i think they are a bit overrated though. St Ives is more for the golfer who loves the hilly tree lined course where as Tulley feels like most recently built courses (and it should since it was built
  9. Its not shocking, his putting has been dodgy since he lost the lead at the PGA to Y.E. Yang. The media basically never talked about it or noticed it until a few months ago. Its the same thing as the media always talking about how great of a putter Phil is yet hes almost guaranteed to miss a 3-4 footer during a crucial time in a major all the time.
  10. If i didn't know better I'd swear Tiger missed his last 10 cuts the way people talk about him. He played amazingly well at Augusta and was a balky putter away from winning the whole thing on the back nine. He was clearly injured at the players and hasn't played since. Why assume his career is over? Did you not watch The Masters? Pretty ridiculous. People act like hes an over the hill boxer who has obviously lost his speed/coordination (Roy Jones) and its never coming back. Give me a break.
  11. Watson played with Nicklaus during Jack's prime. Not to mention Watson came within a slightly smaller bounce of winning the british open at 59. I dont see how Palmer can be ahead of him. He has more majors than Palmer and basically the 2nd half of his career was a waste due to bad putting. IMO he competed longer against far tougher competition and has a better major championship resume than Palmer. Palmer's only advantage is in the number of tour victories, but again, the puttting woes are probably to blame for that.
  12. Depends on how you look at it, I would feel like the forward tee is the base price, and im paying extra to play the longer tees.
  13. Youd be hard pressed to find any great athlete whos a good guy then. Not saying they aren't out there, but they are few and far between. Who wouldve believed all of the stuff about Tiger before it came out? For all we know, any number of guys past, present, or future could be doing the same thing. Its best not to judge these guys for their personal lives.
  14. anyone else get the feeling that arnold palmer is/was overrated? Like how is he > Tom Watson aside from "impact" on the game and being popular to the masses? I mean hes borderline top 10 to me if you just go by accomplishments(although to his credit 62 tour wins is impressive). To me Watson and Player have to be > Palmer.
  15. people not understanding how to use golf carts, walking reprehensibly slow, and taking 10 practice swings seems to be the common problem I see when the course is backed up (also some of these golf courses are to blame by not spreading the tee times out enough) One course here in Rochester Hills, MI, Blackheath (a links style with heather/rye grass all over) actually has their pace of play at 4:40/5hrs. Absolutely ridiculous -_- This is for carts as well, walking is the same price as carts so no one takes them. Its laughable. The heather/rye grass is a culprit in this as well. I know it probably saves on the mowing cost, but that grass is thick and ugly. It looks nothing like the sparse whispy stuff in the british open. Its dumb to have people looking for their ball on every damn hole because of the stuff. Edit: Also I dont like either of the ideas particularly, 2nd one would be nice but I'm sure youd get people complaining about the group infront of them holding them up so they miss their quota or something. The 1st idea penalizes low handicap golfers (the way you put it you could argue its just a discount for someone else, but the end result is the same)
  16. His knee isnt even the real problem atm, its his achilles
  17. Louis won by 7 shots. People have forgotten that so fast its pretty ridiculous. He absolutely destroyed St. Andrews as well with a great golf swing and amazing driving.
  18. are you hitting your lines? Is your speed off? Are you misreading the putts? Are you leaving yourself nasty putts that are downhill and break a lot? I mean theres reasons you are missing (not every putt is going to go in, but some should)
  19. Quite the inferiority complex and a major chip on ones shoulder. This wasnt even close to Tiger in 2000. 12 under when no one else was under par on a much tougher golf course. He even had that horrible triple bogey when he was hacking from the rough. Rory is an amazing player, but this euro BS has to stop. Incase you haven't noticed, save Tiger and Phil USA had a huge dropoff after Duval went south. No one even cares about where people are from. Federer is loved and hes edit: Swiss
  20. You wanna know why courses are packed and slow? The bold right there is it. 9 minute tee times are a joke. Sorry, its just the course being greedy and trying to cram as many people onto the course as possible.
  21. im 23 and have never had that problem. Granted myself and my friends are all singledigit handicaps. Id be furious if some ranger pulled that stuff on me or tried to tell me what tee to play from. The only course that has even ASKED me about my handicap and what tee I was playing was when I was at the K-Club. We played one tee up but it was my first time playing in months and if I went back id play from the back for sure. Id complain to the owner/manager of the course. edit: WOW i missed your 3rd part. If that happened there would DEFINITELY be some type of fight or something or id cause a HUGE scene. Theres no way some random ass guy is going to call me a liar in that situation. You better believe that guy is going to get fired.
  22. Im all for shot tracker and swingvision Aimpoint is really stupid IMO.
  23. I think people are failing to take into account the guy just hasnt putted like we are used to seeing in about 2 years. Hes been talking about his golf swing so much and chalking up putting to him "not making them" when I myself have noticed he dies putts in far more often now than he ever used to. Hell hit these horrible baby ones that come up low and short far more often than I can ever remember him doing.
  24. AK seems like a much more fiery competitor than Adam Scott ever was.
  25. Putting and Chipping on any simulator ive been on is always terrible. Ive played at some where you actually putt to different cups laid out on the floor at varying distances, but even then if you had a 40 footer on the screen it only translated to like a 20 footer max when going to the actual hole.
