question about right elbow!!! :)
doublesuited77 replied to lpuppy79's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
quick drill for you. take your golf stance with a ball in your right hand. simulate your backswing and throw the ball under down the target line. That will simulate the swing -
ending up shooting 76-88. completely died on the final 9. was 90 degrees out. just am not conditioned to walk 36 holes. everyone who qualified was a college player.

ok guys, here is the situation. You are in a greenside bunker, about 20 feet above the hole. The Bunker has no lips and you have a perfect lie. About 15 feet of rough between the bunker and the green and another 60 feet to the hole. The green is fast and running towards the hole. Do you hit a blast bunker shot or just chip the ball?

has anyone played willinger's in northfield, MN? i've heard really good AND very bad things about it.

was playing near dusk at night. hit a ball into a sandtrap on an uphill par 3. then saw 2 nearly naked teens running away out of the trap.

a couple points that I am surprised noone has made in the past 7 pages. 1) Public golf courses are in the business of making money. The more people that play each day, the more money they make. The faster the pace of play, the less time they need to make between tee times. The difference between a 4 hour round and a 5 hour round can cost a golf course 10-12 tee times or 40-48 greens fees per day. 2) Because of #1 and that fact that assistant golf pros don't want to upset members, the slow play problem is MUCH worse at most private courses than at mid to higher priced public ones. (I will ignore munis where 30% of golfers can't break 200.) Luckily, many courses have fully empowered marshalls to enforce "time par" and move anyone who is behind into position to keep the round on time.

when are you playing at Deer Run? In my opinion, Chaska is the best course in the area by far. in tremendous shape and a real shotmaker's course. I would also add Baker National to your list.

if you are going to be in Kauai, Princeville is a must play. incredibly hard and a beauty. there needs to be a PGA event here.

i'm good friends with the head pro. decent test from the back, in very good shape -
over the past few months. more and more course with bunkers (mostly fairway) intentionally without any rakes in them. I know Pine Valley has historically done this as well. Personally, i love this-- it makes bunkers more of a penalty. i would like to see this in all courses.

What is your least favorite saying that is popular?
doublesuited77 replied to Ceej's topic in The Grill Room
gotta go with "shout out" -
agree with most of the above, the approach to the short game is a bit spastic, with lots of different shots all over the place. I still like the book overall. I would compare it to a good cookbook. You may not use all of the shots (recipes), but it is a great reference guide if you ever need it for the basics. I will still go back to it ever now and then in case I am have trouble with an aspect of my short game (sand shots, chipping, etc.)

utleys book is quite good, but i still think pelz's has value. they both have very different approaches. Pelz is much more academic while Utley is more technical without as much as the way. Even if you don't like Pelz's technique, some key takeaways from his book are - speed is more important than aim - the debate over the straightaway putting method versus inside-square-inside

it is the "complements" on the brutally awful ones that really bother me. If someone says "great shot" after I hit a 90 yard gap wedge to 50 feet, no big deal. But when I hit a drive through the fairway into marshaland, it really bother me. Personally, I will never say "nice shot" to some one I am playing with for the first 3 or 4 holes unless someone holes out from the fairway because I need to be able to see what should be a good shot for them.

a similar situation has happened to me a few times in past month. And I need to find a tactful way to say something. Often, I am paired with inexperienced golfers (more often than not women). They are usually incredibly nice people and keep up with the pace of play. One problem (which really gnaws at me). After every time I made solid contact with the ball (which is pretty much every time). They always say "great shot" regardless of where the ball goes. I know you are saying "no big deal, whatever." However, after you hook a ball into a lake, someone saying "nice shot" really gets at you. how do i say something without sounding like a jerk?

would definitely be interested in playing in the town of my birth. my first birdie ever (age 6) was at joseph martin golf club. (a bunker hole out). surprised that course didn't make the rotation ;)

Now I actually need help! Emergency.
doublesuited77 replied to Dent's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
yup. hands are behind the ball and breaking down too early. i'd focus on staying behind the ball a bit more and possible shortening your backswing. -
definitely easy to use and easy to enter rounds. The stats screen is easy to use and is a greast one page summary. My only issue is that it doesn't easily support 9-hole rounds of golf. (which is probably 50% of my play). I probably wouldn't buy until this functionality is created.

Had a chance to play there as a guest last year. Incredible course, one of the best i've ever played.

I am not talking about tanking, but rather shoot the lowest possible stroke play score. A friend of mine was looking at my handicap label today and said, "How the $#$@ did you shoot a couple of 86s?" Often when I play, I am playing in some type of match where I need to make a ton of birdies. As a result, I take alot more risks than I would if it were a stroke play tourney. Even when I play alone, I often try to make as many birdies as possible. (I won't be reckless, but I play alot more aggressive than if it were stroke play.)
-
to really answer this question, i'd need to know the bounce of each of the wedges.

you sound just like Bob Rotella

completely agree. my handicap dropped the fastest when i started playing more at the local executive course and less at the regulation course. For me at least, part of the problem of playing "normal" courses is that except for the par-3s I am basically playing bomb and gouge. usually hitting 3-wood/wedge on most holes and not developing the intermediate game. Par-3 courses help this alot.

just got a $500 Nike golf gift card. thoughts on what i should spend it on. am thinking mostly shirts and shorts. the only club i am really in the market for is a new 3-wood and i am not crazy about square faced clubs. thoughts?
