  1. It is a fairly simple fix, you can probably even do it yourself with the right tools. You may lose an inch or so on the shaft but tid be a serviceable club until you can afford a new shaft.
  2. Well the MP-57s are 1 degree de-lofted compared to your older set. They also have a tad less offset. That probably shouldn't make for much of a difference in height alone however the weighting of these clubs is probably very different. Not just added weight but distribution of weight. The more weight goes tot he edges the higher the ball flight.
  3. Yeah should probably add that not all Japanese forged blades are forged by Kyoei. In fact im fairly sure of the companies named only Vega blades are forged by Kyoei. The rest are forged in Japan however but not by Kyoei.
  4. 93 mph with a 10 degree club perfectly flush should net about 225 on flat ground. EDIT: To add a little explination. Distance is a combination of 3 factors: swing speed, spin, and launch angle. The more spin you have the more height you have the les air resistance affects the ball. To little spin results in those sort of dead shots that seem like decent contact but go nowhere. Too much spin results in moon shots that soar up in the air and dont roll hardly at all when they land. The higher your swing speed the more spin you impart on the ball, likewise slower swing speeds impart less spin on the ball. A swing speed of 93 is roughly average and in general is not going to generate enough spin to really carry the ball. In fact at 93 your driver and 3 wood should have very similar distances as your 3 wood will impart a more optimal amount of spin.
  5. Are they going to magically make your scores drop? No. Kyoei is a company, that forges all kinds of things from parts for John Dere to... golf clubs. They are however one of the if not the highest quality forging outfits in the world. They are renowned for quality, craftsmanship and consistency. What you get is the highest quality forging available. Weather or not that helps you on the golf course? I dont know.
  6. Dont really like that vid. He advocates loading of the hips and rocking your whole upper torso. In my opinion that is a whole lot of extra movement for no gain.
  7. I'm gonna be honest, I have a 48 52 56 and 60 and All I ever use are the 48 and 56... From under 125 yards I find controlling distance with a short swing to be highly effective. Maybe I'm just weird but I dont like having to take a full swing form 100 yards, I prefer being able to take a smaller half or less swing that I feel like I can shape more to the needs of the landing area.
  8. No 5 iron ever sold commercially is gonna come up 60 yards short on a 170 yard shot when hit "flush" with a swing speed over like 40mph. If I were you Id video your swing and head over the the Instruction and Playing tips forum. To see if anyone has anything for you over there.
  9. Im no expert on drawing anything let alone a driver but I know that closing your face is gonna do didly squat. Its a good way to make the ball curve... directly out of play. A draw is supposed to arc around an obstacle closing the face is going to start the ball more towards the obstacle you want to avoid which defeats the entire purpose of a draw. I dont know how to hit a good draw but Im pretty damn sure it doesn't involve closing the face relative to you target.
  10. I dont know about you all, but I just like watching the ball go in the hole from any distance :)
  11. Sleep with every waitress and ex-pornstar you can find... it worked for Tiger. Seriously though this sounds mental to me, just play your game, no amount of range and practice green time is gonna make you magically shoot a 69. Just eat your Wheaties and play your game, don't worry about the leaderboard just make your shots same as you would in a practice round, treat it like any other day at the course. While I have no experience in golf tournaments I have played many sports at high amateur levels and I know tons of people who are complete head cases, they look great in practice but cant get any consistency on game day. Some try to be a hero, some are too humble and don't do enough and some just get that deer in the headlight look and freeze up. Just see the ball, and hit the ball like you know you can. Afterall it is just 18 holes at a golf course same as any other day.
  12. I think a lot of people trick themselves into thinking they do better at the range then they actually do. If 75% of your shots are good and 25% are terrible, then on your average par 4 your at least a 5 and probably a 6 or more depending on how bad that 1 shot is. If you have a bad tee shot on a par 3 you could easily end up with a 6.
  13. The average score for a tour pro is around 70ish that doesnt stop you from seeing scoreboards riddles with 80s and 85s most weekends. Thats golf a 4 shot swing isnt the end of the world and neither is a 10 shot swing... just ask Rory McIlroy.
  14. Swing speed and how much of a "game improvement" set you might need have no correlation. Hybrids should in theory give you some extra length and graphite shafts as well will increase swing speed a bit as well. You may also take a swing with a senior flex shaft just to see how it feels. If you can keep the ball strait a senior flex could add some distance. If you tenative about hybrids go get a single cheapo hybrid from a few years back and stick it your bag and see if you find it useful at all. In general a Hybrid is going to have a much higher ball flight caryy a bit longer and roll a bit less. They are also in general a slightly longer shaft and so will nex you around a 10-15 yard boost. I love my hybrids some people hate them, you'll never know until you try. Nickent hybrids were extremely well regarded when they were new and can now be had for under 50 bucks if you shop around, might be a good starting point.
  15. Sway is a really general word, I dont know how anyone could come to any conclusion about you swing simply by knowing you have a "sway" in your hips.
  16. Im not really an expert or anything but judgeing by the videos you probably hit the ball fairly strait, not very far, and not very high. Probably very little spin as well. Maybe a little bit of a fade, as you probably leave the face a bit open. Watch some videos on how to grip a club if you have not already, you probably either grip too tight or leave your hands too open. On your backswing you have a low takeaway, Id work on taking the club directly back. You also load the hips a little bit your hips should remain in line with your target right into impact. You look like a bit of a scooper as well, which is natural but not something you really want to ingrain because if you scoop at the ball for a year or two its really hard to undo. By that I mean you look like your goal is to get under the ball and sort of scoop it up into the air, should be hitting down at the ball. This to me is all kind of "first lesson" things that you might hear, Id reccomend taking at least 1 lesson if you can afford it. Taking a lesson early on can save you from a lot of bad habits.
  17. Lets start a thread where we guess this dudes yearly income...
  18. Miura might make the highest quality Iron in golf, Ive never swung one so I cant tell you much about performance but the process and materials they use to manufacure their irons is second to none. Yonex has not caught on big in the states for whatever reason but are really as good as any "major" clubmaker and are big in aisian markets. Scratch is probably the most well regarded custom components manufacurer in golf. KZG might give them a run for their money also, but if your looking to spend big bucks and get exactly what you want how you want it Scratch and KZG make amazing stuff made to order just expect to pay for it. A full set of top of the line fully custom fit clubs from these guys can run as much as 3 grand or more. If your into custom stuff at a lower pricepoint SnakeEyes, Maltby, Wishon, and a few other companies make really decent stuf that if you buy in pieces and assemble yourself is a real bargin.
  19. I love my hybrids I carry a 3, 4 and 5h and I just love the utility of them. I use them for so many things usually very effectively. I would not however call them easier to hit persay. I would call them easier to hit far. You can not quite center a hybrid and still get 80% of the distance of a good strike. Hybird's also stay greens more effectively for most people. They are however similar to a wood and in that way very easy to hook or slice.
  20. Their are plenty of baseball players who can throw 90 but never make the majors or even the minors or even college ball. Averageing 300 yards is a little more complex then throwing a ball as more variables come into play... however at its core your distance is most closely associated with your swing speed which as some level is associated with your bodies natureal ability to make it muscles move fast. So the fact that a 20+ capper can hit it 300 or even 400 yards is not exactly supriseing. Chris Shelton formerly of the Detroit tigers could hit a driver 425 yards... he was still a shitty golfer, but he has the god given ability to swing his arms at a speed most people cannot so he hits the ball far. Technology has come a long way in making everyone longer and more accurate. It has not however helped in terms of course management or putting. Look at some of the oldest courses around. Course that were once considered difficult becuase of their lenth are now less daunting. Courses that make you play a course management game and have especially brutal greens stil play hard as ever. Handicap index is combination of score and course difficulty, so the fact that HCP has not changed much is not nessesarily indicative of how much better the average golfer is.
  21. Gir comes with 2 things. Consistancy with your higher irons and hitting fairways. Strait is not always consistant either. Distances and trajectories are also going to effect your GIR.
  22. If you know anything about muscle structure it makes a lot of sense. Fast twitch muscle fibers create short bursts but tire quickly, slow twitch the opposite. So if you take something heavy and try to swing it, you are going to be using some more slow twitch muscle fiber then you would with something lighter that did not take as much energy to swing.
  23. Scotty Cameron is "Overrated" simply because people put them on a pedistal. People treat Scotty Cameron as some sort of putter god and, Scotty cameron is sort of the BMW of the putter world. Really good solid product, well built highly functional very good looking, and with a major cultesque following. However just like with BMW you can get a putter that is just as good looking, just as well made and just as functional and people wont fawn over it because it doesn't say Cameron on it somewhere. I drive the cheapest BMW ever made but people still are like Oh wow you have a beamer? Even though mine is about the most modest BMW ever made, has a ugly interior and is only a 4 cylender, it has the BMW medalion on it so its impressive right? People do the same thing for Scotty Camerons now.
  24. This is an easy one.... as often as possible. That's how often you should 1 putt. This is so silly, there's to many things that go into this from how you get to the green in the first place to the greens themselves. If you suck at approach shots and always chip you may technically 1 putt quite often but how does that help your score? If you conservative and aim for the big parts of the green and "settle" for a 2 putt. Then you may very rarely 1 putt but might score better then the above scenario. If you playing someplace like oh Beth Page Black or Pinehurst ect. ect. you may never 1 putt. If you playing a flat as a board muni that about 4800 yards long you might 1 put quite a bit. It all means nothing in the end.
  25. If you are very tall or very short, getting fit for length can certainly be beneficial (Shorter then around 5'9 or taller then around 6'1). Loft and lie adjustments are really something I think people should hold off on until they are at least a 10hcp or somewhere close. When your swing changes frequently with it changes your optimal loft and lie.
