  1. One more vote for interlock grip. Tried others, but interlock grip felt the most comfortable... and also read an article somewhere that indicated my medium cadet sized hands are more suitable for interlocking grip. Oh, and I'm 6'0 190 LBS so I'm also on the smaller hand size group as well!
  2. I live in Queens, so a little more easier for me to head out to long island. Usually i do have to get up 4-5 AM in the morning to go in as walk on at Bethpage. However, i try to get a reservation wherever I can for a early morning round, and have traveled as far as end of Long Island to play. =) I think I've been to more golf courses in the 4 months I've been playing than my friends who's been playing for more than 5 years!
  3. I'm with Aquacooled. I also carry the r7 425 and am loving it. It did take me a few weeks to get used to it, while also learning to swing better with a driver... and right now i'm hitting them fairly straight with a slight draw to about 270 on average.
  4. I used to carry just the PW & SW, however I recently realized the importance of the short game and invested in purchasing the SOLUS wedge set. It's actually on the way for delivery right now, and I can't wait to start practicing with them and using them on the field.
  5. i'm a natural chunker too! And as all beginners do, I get late on weight shift to the front and end up chunking it badly. It has been like that until recently when my dad gave me the best advice. Never make full swing with iron, like the driver swing. Rather, only make the back swing about 70% of a full swing while keeping my right foot and knee firm through out the back swing.
  6. I weigh 195 LBS and hit about 270 usually. ratio is 1.38. hmmmm to match the pros, it looks like i need to be hitting 350 regularly!!!
  7. No sandals for me either, imagine having to go in the bunker and getting sand everywhere. Same thing for early morning wet grass.
  8. I was a huge chunker too, until i realized i was making too much weight shift to my right (i'm a righty), in my backswing. My right knee and foot would shift too much and I couldn't get back to my original position at adress. From many posts and videos on the internet I figured out that keeping my right knee firm and holding my right foot down will cure my fat shots. Hope that helps...
  9. It happened on Saturday, on a long par 4 where I got on the green in 2. Had about 25-30 feet to the hole, hoped for a close enough putt that would help me make par (making par is an occational happening for me). Just made a smooth stroke that I knew has too hard, the the ball went straight to the hole, hit the back of the cup, jumped a foot in the air and went in!!! ALRIGHT my second birdy ever!!! LOL i was not expecting that at all, and was absolutely surprised by it.
  10. I agree to J_Bone that it comes down to the swing types that decides the draw/fade factor in your ball path. I too read the article and started teeing up the ball above the club head, which is working out very nice for me. I used to hit alot of topped shots that rolled to about 100 yards, but now i'm making solid contact regularly. With a slight improvement in swing plane and teeing the ball high, I've also noticed a big difference in my driving yardage. I was hitting about 240-250 yards on a good contact with the ball teed low, now I'm getting 260-270 regularly with the ball teed above the club head. Those distances are not actually on fairway most of the time, but that's something i have to work on... well I still am getting very nice distances though so I'm happy. =P
  11. hey there, I'm a newbie as well. I'm about 3 months into it and am really enjoying it. However... regarding the balls, you will lose every single ball you buy for the first few rounds! LOL. I made the mistake of buying NIKE ONE for my first rounding and lost the whole box!! $40 gone to the golf course forest spirits.... well anyhow just get something cheap until you get better!
  12. I'm not even remotely close to being in the position to offer a real experienced opinion, since I've only started golf 3 months ago... but as a new student of golf i have had the perfect chance to try both swing methods from a completely blank state. Meaning, I had no ingrained habits and muscle memory to hamper with learning either style. In my opinion it was easier for me and more simpler to learn the ST&T;, and more error free too! With the conventional swing, I'd get fat shots maybe 50-60% of the time, as well as horrible shanks and slices as all newbies do. With ST&T; i hit most my shots clean and crisp with the same amount of practice. I do get slices and even some hooks as well, but a good deal more straight shots than the conventional way! So, in this newbie's eyes, ST&T; seems to be the easier ( not necessarily better ) method to learn. More fun too, since I'm hitting the golf ball better than the conventional way. Well... that was my 2 cents and I hope it didn't offend or seem rude to any of you experienced players.
  13. I use a 10+ years-old Wilson pitching wedge I got second-hand from a friend. It's the most versatile club for me for the short game 110 yards or less.
  14. I work at a customs brokerage firm in NYC. Seems most of the folk in the airport area are into the sport of golf and I was introduced to it by peers and customers recently.
  15. I'm a beginner also looking for a swing training aid. I've started golf about 3 months ago and am hitting around 100-110 a round right now. My shorter irons are hitting fairly decent, but can't hit anything longer than 8 or 7. Thus, my search for a training aid before I resort to finding a teaching pro. Recently I've come across the Medicus on TGC infomercial, just like yourself, and have been seriously considering purchasing one. However, I also came across a similar product called the "Refiner" which does the exact same thing as the Medicus but at a much cheaper price. I have made the purchase throught their website and can't wait for it to arrive! I'll post again after I try it out!
