  1. I can't believe that the gyroscope didn't make it. That is the one I would have been the most interested in. As much as I hated Shaft Skins, and one would never go near my clubs, it seems like they could have done really well in stores. All you would need would be ones with the logo of the local college and pro sports teams and you'd sell a ton. Regarding the ones left... Pro Play GPS: Please go away and never come back. You didn't invent a camera, you didn't invent a tripod, and I hate how you use GPS in the title. Hillshot Golf: It is a good idea, but it shouldn't be anywhere near this competition. They can't sell that thing in Golfsmith. No one would buy one for their home. It should be marketed towards driving ranges and golf instructors. It never should have made it this far. Club Glider: I can see how it would benefit some people, but nowhere near enough to make it a worthy winner. Also, it doesn't appear to me that it would work for tall people. I think the handle is too low for me to use it. I'd have to lift to the point where the front wheels are off the ground, which pretty much defeats the purpose. Z-Factor: I like this one, but I wonder if the cost would be too inhibitive. I also think they'd have to make it look a little friendlier and sturdier. Of the ones so far, this is the only one that I would have voted for if I hadn't voted for... Club Caddy: Simple, effective, and useful. I'd use one, and so would many Golfsmith shoppers, I think. It should be a very easy sell. $20 would be way too much, but I assume they can mass-produce these for very little and thus profit a lot even with a $5-$10 price tag. I would have preferred to vote for the gyroscope club, but I'm fine with voting for this instead.
  2. How tall are you? Are your clubs custom fit?
  3. In what I'm sure will not be a surprise to many people, I've found that some in-store putting surfaces are rigged to help you make more putts while you are testing out new putters. When looking at a hole, it is easy to anticipate where the ball will usually come from. It is most likely that the ball will be coming from the direction of another hole. Knowing that, they can just create subtle channels that help balls traveling along those paths to get close to the hole. I was at a Golf Galaxy store, and noticed that for one shot that I was taking, if I was left of the hole, the ball would break right. If I was right of the hole, the ball would break left. I tried a few other holes and noticed the same thing. Funny how things like that work when they're trying to get you to drop up to $300 on a new putter...
  4. The thing I noticed in the US Open was that he was making almost all of his roughly 8-12 foot putts for par, but missing all his birdie putts in the same range. One stat: Birdie conversion rate in 2000: 36.1% (1st) Birdie conversion rate in 2007: 28.86% (47th) Of course, other than the US Open, that might just be because he had longer putts. Another stat: Driving accuracy in 2000: 71.2% (54th) Driving accuracy in 2007: 56.56% (171st) But then again, while his GIR dropped a bit (75.2% to 69.44%), but he's still third overall there. So to answer your question, both are hurting him, but this casual observer would think that his putting is hurting him more. It is close though.
  5. Historically, it is the ACC, but certainly not last year. Only one team in the ACC made it to the Sweet 16 and none made it to the Final Four. Four of the teams lost to lower-seeded teams.
  6. I'm guessing they'll end up selling multiple items, so that didn't necessarily win. Three reviews for that one so far: one 5 and two 1s. Ouch.
  7. Yep, they should definitely have multiple categories. I also didn't think the magnetic putting system should be allowed to enter. With so many pros already using it, it doesn't really fit in the spirit of the competition.
  8. His comments might have been poorly worded, but he's right that there should be drug-testing for the guys on tour. Even if he can't name a single person on the tour that is on steroids, there should still be testing. It is silly to not have drug testing.
  9. Tied for the best finish by an American... I think Hunter is pretty happy that he made the journey.

    Golfsmith

I had a good experience at Golfsmith a few weeks ago. Due to my height, the clubs had to be bent far more than they supposedly can be bent. The shop guy couldn't do it and said I'd need to special order forged irons. The manager said he could do it with no problems, and he was right. He also knew they had a "used" set of the same clubs for about 2/3 the price, and six of the eight clubs had obviously never been hit. The other two had only been hit a couple times at a range. Fitting was still free, even with the clubs being used. Things couldn't have turned out better.
  11. This wasn't today, but didn't have internet access that day I played 27 holes (for $10, wheee twilight rates!). 48, 46, and a personal-best 43. Granted, the course is tiny and about half of the par fours are driveable by good players (heck, I even drove one), but I'll gladly take it. I even figured out how to regularly hit my drives straight. We'll see if I still remember that the next time I play...
  12. He might have made the cut, but we're talking about a tournament on his home course, where half of the top players didn't play. It is a nice story, but he should at least wait until he's out of high school, and depending on how much he has progressed during that time, until he's played a little in college.

  14. In terms of dollars, those two probably have a far greater EV playing in the tournament in Milwaukee than they do in the Open. So unless they want to go just to say they went, it would probably be far better for their pocketbooks to play in the other tourney.
  15. Nine iron. Perhaps coincidentally, it is the club with which I screw up the least on average.
  16. Googled "golf forums".
  17. I'm interested. PM sent.
  18. Select the ruler tool, click on the start point, and then click on the end point.
  19. Yep. I'm about 6'6"-6'7". The first guy in the shop said they couldn't bend them that much and that I'd need to special-order forged irons, but the manager came by and said he had bent the same set that far and would do it himself.
  20. After playing for a while with ancient unfitted clubs that I got at a garage sale for $1 each, I treated myself to some fitted clubs this week. They ended up having to be lengthened an inch and bent FIVE degrees up. Just *slightly* different than my old clubs.
  21. There is a good article on this very site about using Google Earth as a golf tool. If your course is viewable on Google Earth, and isn't too out of date, give it a shot. http://thesandtrap.com/extras/tap-in...as_a_golf_tool
