  1. Learn to play in wind better. We all play in wind.. whether your average score is 68, 78, or 88.....we are all in the same "BOAT" so to speak.
  2. I consider putting a strength........................3-putt avoidance also depends on the course you play! With that said......I apologize because I don't have definitive stats....on 3-putts.....per course. I do know this....I can play 72 holes without a 3-putt......................."depending on the course"..... This is a hard question to answer accurately!!! On my home course.........YES!!!!! I can play a 72 hole tourney...and never 3-putt.....maybe........... it happens though.......................................
  3. Hahahahaha.........I get you!! I am feeling the love...thank you! You know how I am about knowing course details!! The tees we played.....par72.......6577yds... 72.5cr 137 slope... this guy was playing from the wrong tees! (tips are 7133yds 75.1cr 141slope)...... it was fun to watch for sure. His 1 bogey was a 220yd par3.....pull hook into a hazard...... then got up and down from a place had had no business getting up and down from...LOL........he hit an amazing high pitch to just get inside of 10'...then made the bogey putt. Good stuff!!!!
  4. I "paired-up" and played with this guy last weekend and it was fun to watch him play........ it's not often I play with a stranger that impresses me. Physically speaking....he was maybe 5-8" and didn't look athletic, but he consistently carried the ball near 300yds on wet fairways after hard rains......... he birdied the first 4 holes! The first 3 were all shortish putts....... then he just missed on 4 on the wrong side of the pin.......got a bad bounce and went over and was FK'd............. he proceeded pitch from "dead zone"....hit the flag and jarred it.... (it would have rolled 20 feet past had he not jarred it) After birding the first 4....... He had to birdie at least 4 more..... I am pretty sure he had a career day and it was one of those easy rounds.......made it look easy.... I dont' know what he scored for sure, but he had to be at least 7-8 under...... it was fun to pair-up with a guy like this.... for sure... I can only remember 1 bogey.....I wasn't counting, but I think he made 7-8 birdies....LOL.... dude was on fire.... that was fun to watch up close!! I've played 1,000s of rounds over the years with a variety of golfers..... I am pretty sure this was the lowest round I have seen first hand pairing-up for a random weekend golf round...........fun stuff!
  5. Still trending down so I can't complain too loudly....down to 2.6, but I'm still as frustrated as EVER!! Case in point is last weekend......72.5CR/137slope........weekend scores.......... 73-81........Saturday morning was after a late friday night with only a few hours sleep....I card a 1 over par 73. ( a keeper for me) I was a good boy Saturday night...I was to bed early and well rested for Sunday morning..... then card an 81. OUCH........ Maybe the key to good golf is stay up late and drink??? I am "IN FACT" putting that theory to a test tonight because I have a 7AM tee time tomorrow morning (July 4th)....and yes...I must stay up late and drink adult beverages tonight to maintain scientific integrity!! Hahahahaha....I will let you know what I score tomorrow.........
  6. I haven't been playing as regularly as in past years and it shows. I am still all over the place... Case in point!!! 72.5CR 137 slope, par 72...... I was finally able to play both days last weekend before the 4th.................Saturday...73/ Sunday 81...........UGH!! I have a 7am tee time July 4th....time to re-group! sheesh...
  7. I want "the kid"......to be able to beat my AZZ...just sayin'...............
  8. I lost him, but I am getting him back now!!!!...........now he wants to play again!.........I am floored......He's 15 now....he wants to play....and he is asking for DAD for help!! How cool is that??? it took me 2 seconds to buy him a beginner set of clubs......(grownup size) I bought him a nearly full set..on the spot. I just wanted to get him clubs to see where this journey would lead us........... He has clubs now.... (albeit a starter set)....if he gets serious and all....I'll hook him up...for sure. My sons first set of clubs..................(adult sized clubs) He is back to wanting to hit balls, so I will take him to the range.............. I will get his grip right...and set him down the path! I will get him "squared away"....I cannot wait to get him to the point that he can tee off with my group...early AM....weekend...Prime time.....woah.... His swing is natural........ When he was 5....his swing was better than many adults I have played with....LOL Father/son golf! I would like this very much!! My father and I had this..... I want this with my son. With that said, I was always a much better golfer than my dad...... I don' want that for my kid. I hope he is better than me! I will be there to root him along the whole way......... I am what you call a baddazz hacker...... 0-4HC depending on the time of year...........LOL
  9. As an Ohio guy....I already have plans to play golf with at least 1 person I haven't seen in nearly 20 years...Looking forward to that!!!!
  10. When it comes to bowling...he's on a roll. Yes...his 5th 300.......and he just turned 15. Probably not his last..... We travel so he can bowl around the country to compete. Golf is my passion, but I don't play as much these days so I can watch the kid do what he enjoys.
  11. My son Colby first took interest at age 5, and he showed signs that he could play. This is a pic from when he was 5 or 6yrs old hitting balls in the freezing cold in the backyard. (whiffle golf balls) he was a natural and his form was pretty good for a kid that young. He used to hit balls until his hands bled, and then I'd tape his fingers and he'd hit more balls. My wife traveled for a year for work reasons and we couldn't play..then I lost him. (I was home with the kids in the evenings...we couldn't get out) Recently, he's been a bit of a bowling sensation....(I will get him back to golf at some point).. He just turned 15 and he's making some noise on the hardwood bowling against older kids 20 and under with some success..... June 4..on the bowling website....his name is Colby..he's bowled 5th 300 game.......the 5th was his first sanctioned 300 during tourney play. You can watch video of Colby's 10th frame below........... https://www.facebook.com/KansasCityOpenbowlers/ I don't play as much golf these days because I am following him around to the tourneys..... He's competing again this weekend....no golf for me, but it's fun to support and be there. He's pretty good at it, so that helps because he tends be in the hunt. Our summer vacation this year is going to Cleveland so he can bowl Nationals. I am from Ohio, so going to Cleveland isn't terrible as it sounds, but at least he is doing what he enjoys. I personally....would prefer a beach vacation, but we'll make the most of the trip. We'll find a way to make a side trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky. (I had a season pass there when I was a kid..LOL) If you like roller coasters, Cedar Point is one of the best parks in the world....
  12. Surprise bonus 9.....didn't think I could play today, but I snuck in 9+ holes. A cluster was in front of me so I skipped ahead to the 4th hole knowing it would be pretty fast from there to the house. I used the 5 holes as a warmup...LOL (I paired-up with a 2-some) Starting on 10, I kept score.....(back9 rating is 36.0CR and 133 slope) 2 Birdies-1 bogey.....35..........1 under par. Another nice mini-stretch of golf. The 34 I scored a couple days ago was paired with a 43..LOL This one is hanging out there......for now.
  13. Today was surreal...... My game hasn't been good...mostly flirting around 80 with a couple "outlier" low 70 rounds mixed in. Today was my only chance to play golf in the next 7 days because my son has weekend bowling obligations. The temp was around 91-93.............and steamy because we had rain over the weekend......the course was jam packed, and play was slow. I got paired with a brand-new beginner.......and a "non-golfer". the non golfer never hit a shot in the air longer than 50 yards for the entire 9. Every stroke was a DUFF.......They were both extremely self conscious....I get that, but it was still uncomfortable because he duffed every GD-shot!!.......and I said everything I could to put their nerves at rest. I could tell they were uncomfortable with me joining them. At one point, I said something to the effect.....Hey..the course is jam packed...I OR nobody cares how many strokes you need....let's have fun! So long as week keep pace with the group in front of us, the people behind us are good. We kept pace amazingly enough.......it was still a weird round because I played exceptionally well. We played the back9.... (36.0CR and 133 slope).....I carded a 2 under par 34 among this cluster.......... my best 9 hole score of 2017...LOL WEIRD!! I acted like this is how I play all the time and played it like MR COOL......they were in shock and never had seen a golf display like I put on today.LOL I quit at 9 holes...it was hot, play was slow, and I had things I needed to do. I would have liked to finish, but it seemed like a good time to end on a good note. I made 3 birdies and a bogey.... I never flirted with a 2nd bogey. of the three birdies...one was a 117yd wedge....6" tap in. the other two were on par 5's..........both sand saves/short sided from bad positions. I took my medicine...hit good bunker shots.....and holed a couple of 15' putts.... weird day.

  15. My June revision is up to 4.5.................all of 2016 is out of my most recent 20, so I am hoping I will start trending down soon. I played like complete garbage today, so I am not overly optimistic. LOL 0.8 to 4.5 spring bump is acceptable providing I get my crap together and start playing better soon. Today wasn't pretty....uggh..(85)
  16. yes...this is the same club from a while back.
  17. I only played once this week, but I shot stood out from the rest. This is a classic old course with large majestic trees that line the fairways. The trees are so huge, you can play out from them, but you have to be very creative and be able to manufacture shots. It's an uphill par4.......in the treeline. I had 140yds up hill with big trees in front of me. I had an alley, but had to keep the ball really low... I punched a little low "back foot" 6' iron that never got more than 5 feet from the ground...I was playing into the setting sun and liked the shot, but had no clue where the ball ended up. The ball came to rest about 6' behind the cup. I had a slick 6 footer... with 2' of break..... made the putt. had I missed, it would have been all for naught! LOL
  18. Please share the story if you have one. My story...I was playing a 56 degree wedge to the green on a full shot from 100yds....... I made a swing........I struck the BALL.....then I was highly distracted because my club became immediately light....and a tumbling object stole my attention. YES.........the clubhead snapped.....did I hit a green in REG.............yes, the ball landed to within 10' of the cup. Yes......the shaft snapped...........still a GIR..LOL Easy PAR!! LOL
  19. What are you asking?
  20. LOL...yessir, we have certainly had this discussion before over several years! Honestly....I don't care what the course is. it's nice to know whether they played a pitch and putt course with 87yd holes or something different......I am not trying to judge anyone here. I want to have a better understanding for what they are saying.
  21. .........what a disgrace! I think I know this kind of golfer!..........he's a typical weekend hack that only plays sporadically if the weather is nice and when he has somebody to play with. He carries no official HC because he's a typical weekend beer drinking golfer.... ...... he entered on a lark and probably had many laughs afterwards with his beer drinking golf buddies. I am sure he laughed it up in the Tavern afterwards with his buddies....."I played in a US open Qualifier!"....I can hear them laughing now. Most qualifiers are "country club" conditions for the most part....albeit from long tees.
  22. It took me 15 years to get my first when I was a 4'ish HC at the time. That ace as a decade+ ago, and I'm still waiting for #2!! I need another to validate the first.........LOL
  23. True, but we still need context to better appreciate and understand what is being said. I will be the first to applaud a person breaking 100 for the first time whether it be on a par3 or championship course. The course played simply adds meaning. Without this, it might as well be a pitch and putt. make sense?
  24. it would be nice..................why not share course rating, slope, course par, and basic yardage from the tees you played when giving scores. IE...hey I shot 76 means nothing. Was it an executive course with a 63CR or a 7600yd Championship course with a 78CR? Right?
