I shot a 91, 48 on the front, 43 on the back....I'm a 30+ handicap so shooting 91 today was awesome. I finally didn't lose a ton of strokes on OB, missed chips, and easy putts. Cut about 10 strokes off what I usually lose and had some nice mid-iron strikes. woohooooooo I broke 100 yesterday for the first time and almost broke 90 the next day. I love golf

BasicLly gave up basketball my senior year of hs so i could play golf 3-4 times a week and go to the range a ton instead of wasting my time at 4-7 practices 3x a week. I cant go out until 3 as a junior anyway so it was cramping my style.

Hitting the ball too high ... causes ?
Bpurc22 replied to inthehole's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'm not sure if this is too obvious or not but it sounds like your friend is swinging to vertically for a drive. Should be on a horizontal path instead of vertical. I used to swing vertically and hit the ball way too high with my driver but I adjusted so I bring the club further back and with more of an angle (further away from my body) so I am hitting the ball out instead of up. Teeing the ball up lower or getting a lower-lofted driver could also help, but why not try to fix the problem instead of wasting money to not get a real fix? -
Did I make this thread or what? lol man I am feeling the same thing as you. I am not a great golfer either (100-105), but I am new and practice a ton. So back in May I was starting to shoot high 40s and a "bad" round for me was becoming 50+. I just played 7 holes (lightning forced us off) and shot a 45, like am I serious? Honestly I think playing so much is hurting me and I need to practice more instead of playing a ton. The more I play, the more I adjust and change to try and come out with a decent score instead of trying to implement what is right and better long-term. Anyway, I think I'm going to take some time off to just practice and see what I come back as. Hopefully you and I are like (doctorfro) and come back stronger after a regression. Good luck to you man -- keep the thread posted I'll check back in a week or so.

2-ball for me. Im not overly in love with it but its a nice putter. It hits left but with some adjustments ive hit some very nice rolls from respextable distances

Drives going right every time
Bpurc22 replied to MrElculver2424's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Fix your grip..rotate your left hand so you can see 3-4 knucKles. Cured mine and i havent sliced since -
I swear this is gonna happen to me soon. As soon as i started killing my 3 wood (burner so it's very long and i adjust accordingly), i started hitting these shots with my irons that go straight down right to left. After a nice range sesh where i fix it out, i can garauntee i'll start pushing the ball like crazy. F this stupid game why do i love it so much again?

I guess my goal for 2011 5 months ago would have been to get back into golf. In the fall i want to make my hs golf team, i want to break 90 (currently haven't broken 100' but i consistently shoot 100-105 on 18 (always give up by the end) and i shoot 45 regularly when i play by myself. Id like to start losing a max of 1 ball per round, maybe record an eagle, improve my short game so it's at least respectable, oh and ge the white burner 2011 model :)
-
That was my story basically every hole yesterday. I hit 5/6 fairways about 240-260 each (burner 3 wood is ridiculous) and still shot a 45 in 8 holes. I just got to my 2nd shot and started hacking away
-
I play alone all the time, I actually prefer it. You don't have to wait for everyone else and you can just focus on your own shots. The course I belong to is free to just walk, so I usually go around 430-5 and just walk 9 holes. It takes about 2-2.5 hours but it's perfect.

According to wiki, kent has 7 professional Canadian wins. If they play 9/18 holes on the finale, one of the other guys is gonna have to go low to beat him. I also thought petey was the 2nd best on there but what can you do. He got knocked off early and i doubt kent would have been able to battle back from what petey did.

Just made a full post and it's being "held for moderation because im new here"... This is about the third time that's happened already..why?

I may sound like a total idiot, but you want to hit down on the ball while pitching/chipping? Obviously you do for iron shots but for distance and spin. I always thought that closer to the green you would want an easier swing and clean contact. With my 60' i always "scoop"/"sweep" the ball and get it into the air. I feel like when im close and try to hit down on the ball, i either kill it or hit a line drive.
-
Yes, i did, but you seemed to disregard it as if big differences rarely happen. There's a reason why the white and blue tee difference even exists.
-
Ever think that maybe there is a bigger distance for other courses? For some holes at my course there is about a 40 or so yard difference and you're looking at a stroke difference for every hole like that if you have distance problems (as the op stated)..so basically what you're saying is that because i'm not a good putter, i can move each putt 15% closer and still have a real hc.

Thats sick, great deal. Hopefully you dont start hitting them like petey/sergio now

Help...What wedges for a high handicap player?
Bpurc22 replied to Lizzyboy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I tried to make a thread about this yesterday but i couldnt. So basically i am just wondering if the label on the wedge is as big a deal as other clubs. Im a mid-high capper who has only been playing for a couple momths (im not a bad player by any means i hit beautiful shots frequently) and im interested in getting new wedges. Currently i have the adams tight lies plus 52'/56' and a cleveland cg60' and im thinking about selling them and going with something cheaper (the only one i use consistently is the 60 anyway). I was thinking about getting this set http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Affinity-Golf-REVO-3-Piece-Wedge-Set-52-56-60-/380350179525?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash;=item588ea328c5#ht_2179wt_922 For just $50 i love the white coat on the back and i highly doubt the quality is just terri le, so im thinking for probably my worst area of my game, might as well get something cheap, that looks good, and i like. Any suggestions? -
Im not sure what your driving problem is, but i was a huge slicer just about a month ago. I found that strengthening my grip and exaggerating my backswing cured my slice and gave me some extra power. I know what you mean though. It sucks so much when you can't even give yourself a chance to par/birdie. What i have been trying to do lately is just make the best possible shot from where i am. Keep a good mindset and i'm sure you'll be breakig 80 with a couple good drives.
-
If i were you, i would go with a new driver. I got a burner 2009 driver while i had a deadly slice and somethign changed..i gripped it different or maybe it was the club but i hit the burner straight. Now i can work on the small things like fully using my hips and pushing through the ball with more distance and not having to worry about the slice or a lack of distance. That's just what i would do though.

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
Bpurc22 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Last time i got my pops a $50 gift card to golfgalaxy, before that i got a burner 2009 driver10.5 reg for $80, two boxes of burner tour balls, two boxes of nike one vapor speed balls (4 boxes for $80), a donkey driver headcover, and a glove -
I would say no..if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Ride em out for another two years until you get the new clubs, i like to get my driver/3 wood/putter regripped because it looks better. Never really had a problem with grips.

Playing under pressure - getting quick at the top?
Bpurc22 replied to busterblue2's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I actually experienced this the other day. I was playing at a new course with my aunt and uncle and wanted to blast a drive to show i could play. I went back, hurried my front swing/didn't fully go back and just blasted it left, no draw no pull just straight left. So basically my next couple shots i just really exaggerated the top of my swing. I probably hit some of the nicest lookimg drives I've ever hit the next couples holea haha -
I am a fairly high handicapper as well and usually struggle with my short game so here are some tips. Understand where on the green you need to hit, you need topick a target and face it up to be able to get it close, and also practice enough to understand how hard of a swing will land you 15' 30' and 50 yards out with your wedges. This will help just about as much as anything. One thing i also try to remember is to always swing through the ball and exaggerate my follow through to make sure i get the ball up in the air for a soft landing. Lastly you could implement a few tricks like hitting a 3 wood from the rough just off the green (my dad does it and it works) or try to develop a flop shot.

I have been playing seriously for 4 months and I am 100% addicted. I ain't even mad though.
