  1. On one course I used to belong were some fairways quite close to each other and slices ended on adjacent fairways. They had a local rule that player playing (if I recall correctly) higher number of fairway has right-of-way.

  3. I have to take now back what I said. I just read the "liability law" in Finland and it is very much the same as in USA. I must have confused something and I think I know what it was. There was, some time ago, a program where an insurance law person was explaining about how the liabilities in damage cases work. If I recall correctly he said what I wrote earlier, the one who suffers damages pays. But in case there is a liability, and after reading the law there certainly can be, then the liable party should pay. The example he was explaining was a case of unknown person causing the damage and they tried to claim the damages from the insurance. But their insurance only covered 3rd party and they could not use it on their own property or something like that. sigh. Forget whatever I said. And I would love to own a house at Atlanta Athletic Club. I have good memories of Johns Creek, GA.
  4. No, I am not saying the insurance would change the liability. But I would be interested in seeing the parts of law that would, by default, make me responsible for my guests injuries if they would fall down my front stairs. addition: after reading more about "tort law", I find best practice to get most comprehensive umbrella insurance and sue the rest. If living in US, that is. I lived, but only for a year, not a bad year at all, but nobody luckily fell down my stairs.
  5. Maybe you should not compare 100yd and 250yd drives? Rather compare straight 140yd and woods bound 170yd 7i. I am not saying that the length is not important but let's keep it realistic. Nicklaus thought it was more easier to train accuracy than length.
  6. No offence but I doubt what you are writing. There may be a common practice of paying the damage caused to another party. But in most cases this would be done either by common courtesy or by a threat of civil law suit. In the court the case would scrutinised and the possible intent, negligence or whatever would be taken into account. Motor vehicle accident is not a good example as in many (most?) countries the law require you to have an insurance for third party damages.
  7. Not much to add, but in Finland, and I would assume also in most other places, the principle is that the one who has suffered damage due to an accident bears also the costs. This is the main principle. That's why most people take insurances.

  9. Also PGA professionals hit down with driver. LPGA is different story.
  10. Are they actually shorter than old 9i? If so you anyway lose some loft, i.e. height of the shot, which I thought was the idea of using PW in the first place. So in the end you have to use GW/AW whatever.
  11. Greece? Middle East? You are shooting with wide scope here. In Kuwait the Sahara Golf club is nice. In Bahrain of course the Royal Golf Club in Riffa.
  12. So how is it different to hit 9i of MP-32 to the green than PW of Di7? Both have the same loft. The bolded sentence does not make sense to me. Except (wedge) marketing wise. Other than that it just contradicts the "Bottom line", of hitting higher loft club to the green is better than lower loft club.
  13. Have you read http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/ball_flight_laws ? Have you tried not closing the club face that much?
  14. Phil also presses his hands forward before take-off, very quickly though. Then he hinges more on backswing.
  15. In Finland hole-in-one insurance is included in the normal personal golfing insurance, which also covers injuries etc. The Club would write you a proof to be included with your claim to the insurance company. So, yes, "I" would pay. The coverage limit is not very high though.
  16. Does it come with turtle neck or collars?
  17. I know, but what I find at least academically interesting is, that he tries to "actively" not to slide, recipe for disaster or not. This in comparison to the people moving their right knee towards target or left toes or whatever.
  18. I have been reading again, and again this thread and I think it has been very good. And Nick Faldo is one of my idols as a player. I have owned his book "Golf The winning formula", 1989, for many years now. In this book he explains his swing and swing thoughts/feelings in very detailed way. The pictures in the book look exactly the same as in this 1992 article so I think the swing has stayed the same. Below are some pieces from the book. Top of the backswing: "Hips: I sent the right hip back and round behind me, feeling fully wound up. Having turned if fully is is now going to feel resistance while the left side moves away from it." Starting the downswing: "Legs: Third, the most advanced of the movements, a feeling of keeping the right knee, foot and indeed the whole right side still, while the left knee is felt to separate from the right leg to start the leg action for the downswing." Downswing: "Legs: There is very definitely this feeling of separating left leg from the right leg, right leg resisting the movement through, so that the whole feeling is one of the left side opening away from it. Hips: The left side really is pulling and I am trying to send the hip left hip back behind me. Again there is no lateral movement at all. Aslight lateral movement of an inch or two will happen, not consciously but as a result of the lift of the left shoulder in the change of direction." In another chapter "Powerful legwork" he says "The leg action I am going to advocate may well be very different from your usual movements. Players have been doing two things which I don't believe are truly compatible. They have tried to play the ball too far forward in the feet, opposite the left heel, while at the same time trying to attack the ball from inside. This has required a distinct slide to left through impact, a tipping of the hips off their natural plabe and bowing out of the leg into impact. My feeling of the correct leg action is that it is certainly powerful, but that is is a circular turn - with no sideways movement either back or through- the turn being fully contained within the width of my stance." So at least his feelings are very much opposed to the thrusting of the right knee or bowing the left knee. In the end he ends up on top of the outside of his left foot. But is this a result of sliding the hips during the stroke or only after the stroke?

We have such a rule on the home course where it is almost impossible on one hole to tell if the ball cleared the hazard or not (if you don't see a splash) and if it does clear the hazard, but not by much, it could still be lost in the rough. So to speed play the local rule allows use of a provisional ball unless it is clear it is in the hazard (saw the splash down). This would not seem to be in need of a local rule (although it would make it easier to remember for players), as in this case there seems to be possibility for ball to be lost in the rough: Dec 27-2a/2 Quote: Even though the original ball may be in a water hazard, the player is entitled to play a provisional ball if the original ball might also be lost outside the water hazard or out of bounds. If the ground is clear and there is no doubt about ball being in hazard then playing provisional ball is not possible.
  20. You can fish it out for identification purposes. For a stroke, you have to first correctly address the ball, and I guess you have not done so when fishing it out.
  21. Trust me, it will work. Earlier this week I topped my Rescue shot from about 180yd out. Ball started low towards the pond, took 3-4 skips and rolled up the hill to the side of the green. Easy peasy with little bit of luck.
  22. What about the range balls at your range. Are they normal balls, comparable to the one you used on the course? I think 10% could be easily the difference. Does this course have a Course Rating and Slope? If it has, the total length of the course should not change, much, if the tees are moved. Anyway, in my experience, I would trust the tee markings and yardages more than my +/-10yd GPS.
  23. Good you wrote "propably". I was just watching Nordea Masters and there was a situation of ball not staying put on green. This ball was normally marked and lifted and when replacing it did not want stay. No plugging. Player first went to the right of marker few times up to an inch and then tried left side and found a place where ball stayed.
  24. In EGA countries, course is required to have CR and Slope for HC eligible rounds. So USGA practices are spreading to the "world".
  25. I am seeing some irony in this. Maybe he was the slowest of the group, but then he get's penalized on the hole where he certainly was the quickest of the group. Maybe he should have tried to use that as an indication that he tried to catch up...
