  1. That's another thing I guess I am in the minority on. I find my HTML site much more user friendly than the WordPress site. My Wordpress site makes me want to scratch my eyes out with rusty nails. The HTML site is very easy to maintain.
  2. I agree flow is more important and have never had a 4.75 hour round that 'flowed' well. With some courses going to 2 tee times every 15 minutes (8 minutes then 7, 8 then 7...) there is no chance of flow. Even 8 minutes between tee times is not enough IMO. 9 is better but 10+ is the best. The only way I play the courses with 8/7 or 8 minutes between times is when they are dead. Otherwise it is just painful.
  3. I prefer substance over style as well but the word that pops in my mind when viewing the new site, and many other site changes for other companies, is Generic not flashy.
  4. I had someone on Etsy to manually make me a custom driver head cover. I also started a thread about crazy or unique covers - http://thesandtrap.com/forums/topic/83939-crazy-or-unique-driver-head-covers/#comment-365968 My head cover was pretty expensive so what I would like to see is less expensive options.
  5. I don't despise the layout nearly as much as I despise the recent change at the Yahoo homepage. When I search I can refine it to View by Tee Times rather than Courses and set it to a 50 mile radius. However, it doesn't remember those settings so each time I do a search I have to make those changes manually again which is tedious. It also seems to misfire when I submit the search at times. In general I just don't like the change to convert everything over to being tablet/phone friendly. I much prefer using a desktop to do things. I guess I am in the minority there.
  6. Just picked up 7 dozen of the 2013 model for $16 per dozen + $10 shipping. Get 'em while they last - http://www.amazon.com/Bridgestone-Golf-2013-Balls-White/dp/B00B9ABIGA/ref=pd_rhf_ee_p_img_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0NDEEWK1S27MJ3BE5X3W
  7. From that sentence how do you know it is not spin? It is based on robot testing which could mean the robot was calibrated to hit near dead center each time and at a near perfect launch angle each time. What happens when the average Joe is all over the clubface with the face wide open/closed. It says 'better player' club head speed. Better is pretty vague, it could mean long drive distance champions club head speed. Those players are likely better players but not the best players (tour level). If you blindly trust what the marketing department is telling you then you are not thinking it through enough.
  8. If you have dealt with marketing then you also know what kind of spin they things.
  9. My point is they would market it as the best ever even if they knew it was not. They will tell you what they think is most likely to get you to want to upgrade to their newest model even though you already own and like their last model..... which just came out a year ago. I am not saying I don't expect them to market it differently. I am saying that what they say needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
  10. Why? Because they have incentive, and clearly make constant attempts to make you think their new product is the greatest thing sliced bread. If they were improving existing models to make them better that is one thing. To constantly have the 'greatest ever new idea' means they are more focused on marketing hype. What they say needs to be taken with a grain of salt. That doesn't mean that what they sometimes say isn't true just that I would suggest you get confirmation from outside sources. Don't blindly trust marketing from the company trying to sell you something.
  11. I would discount what they recommend. Their goal is to make you want to buy their clubs more often. Don't fall for the hype.... that being said I do play Taylor Made irons and am very pleased with them.
  12. If you are mostly looking at tracking distances why not opt for something like the Game Golf tags? http://www.gamegolf.com/home/en-us/?v=b8793bb
  13. I use my cell phone for music. Mostly when playing alone but if I am with a group that is OK with it I will have it on. I try to be conscious of players outside my group. for instance if the parking for the green I am on is near the next tee then I will turn down the music so that it doesn't reach another group. The sound doesn't carry that far with it on full blast but I would rather have it too low than too loud. I really enjoy being able to have some music on while I am playing which surprised me. I never gave it much of a thought until one day I had to bring the phone on the course (which I used to never do) for work reasons. Since I had it and was playing alone I dialed in some music and really enjoyed it.
  14. I have been going back to old favorites that I listened to in college for a little bit of a fix. Would love to find some newer music in a similar vain but am having trouble there. For my guitar fix I always seem to fall back to Satriani.
  15. Benn trying to find some good new rock music and it is a little like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Found this but it is a few years old now and got zero airplay in my area.
  16. I think it is much like the fed-ex / UPS debate. It depends on the individual elements. For me I drive 5 x as long to get to Golfsmith than to the Golf Galaxy which is very close to my home. IMO the managerial staff at my local Golf Galaxy are just not very appreciative of any business. They act like they are doing me a favor rather than earning my business and I am pretty low maintenance as far as that is concerned. It's a shame because the teaching Pro at the Golf Galaxy is pretty solid but I won't go there because I don't want to give that location the business. That being said the poll results are pretty interesting.
  17. Did you reach your improvement goals? The only place I hoped to improve was in my enjoyment of playing the game. I mostly succeeded there and was even able to enjoy a couple of rounds that were my worst of the year. Did you play as many rounds as hoped/planned? Much more than I would have thought. I ended up joining 2 leagues after planning on joining just 1. That added about 10 rounds (20 x 9-holes) to my total and playing at a local course before work probably added close to another 20 rounds. The weather cooperated adding another 12'ish round that I didn't expect to get in. For 2016 I don't know how many rounds I will play before work since you can no longer post rounds played as a single for handicap purposes. Did you meet or fall short of other expectations? I had no other expectations for 2016. Just by playing and enjoying the game I was able to lower my handicap to an all-time low of 6.5. That lasted only a short 6 week period but it was a blast.
  18. That's strange, when I click on the picture to get the larger view it is upside down but the picture in the post is right side up. If you are making the trip alone you might think about posting a chart with dates in the Member Outings & Meetups forum. Harrisburg and Trenton are within my normal driving distance and Dover, Annapolis and DC are not that much of a stretch... depending on the day of the week.
  19. I think it has more to do with other things for example I live in a neighborhood with a large mix of ages with a good percent having kids. I drive by a few bus stops on my short commute to work and see 5 kids and 8 parents waiting for the bus. On the weekends you would think there would be kids out playing but it is very, very rare. The parents in the neighborhood I grew up in and other neighborhoods used to kick the kids outside if they were spending too much time indoors. We had plenty of distractions like the internet but still had plenty of time outdoors.
  20. Meh, video games, cartoons and music were the 'downfall' of my generation. When things go into decline people will invariably blame the wrong things.
  21. I wouldn't tip him but would go out of my way to make sure the people that supply his paycheck know what a good job he has done.
  22. Egg-xactly. I went to the pizza shop and ordered a full large pie and they had the gall to charge me $14 when I can get 3 large pies, a 2 liter of soda and 8 wings for $32. I should have been able to get the large pie for $10.67 and then they could have poured 2/3 of a liter of soda plus given me 2.67 wings to boot. The other thing is the upkeep to account for 10 clubs individually in a set is more intensive than having say two sets made up. To enter, maintain and charge for those items individually takes more labor and time.
  23. I bought some rechargeable batteries for my Garmin G5 GPS but they are very disappointing in that they may not even last a round at times. The store bought disposable batteries last 3 to 5 rounds depending on what functions I use. Has anyone had a good experience with rechargeable AA batteries for a similar device? What brand and model?
  24. You will find the "buy used and pay less' philosophy goes a lot further than just golf clubs.
  25. I could be wrong here but do you think the guy was annoyed because you were making him stay late? I wouldn't have been annoyed with his first request but would have pointed out to him that it was tough finding a decent section of turf. As far as no-one else using it that night that is not the point. It will take more than a few days for the ground to repair and you do less damage going back to back. I have been to ranges where I abandoned the back to back approach as the range was just so beat up. The second request would have annoyed me. Depending on how bothered I was about being interrupted a second time I would probably come up with some snide remark back to him for that one. During a practice session I don't want to be interrupted. Thinking about it some more I think HIS best approach would have been to mention it afterwards not during your session. By which time he should have realized you adjusted your targeting after you pulled a shot over the berm (which I assume you would have done).
