  1. I like Gary linekar, he seems like a really nice guy and for what he has done for charities over the years he deserves serious respect. BBC is great for watching golf, I don't have setanta, it costs around £120 a year doesn't it? Wish I had HD!!
  2. Yeah I like listening to the different sounds, the only problem with having a loud driver is if you are not hitting well on the range and everyone looks to expect a shot carrying to the end of the range when they just turn and see a terrible shot. Now that's bad. Oh, r7 425, the Cobra 400 sz is ear piercingly loud also.
  3. Yeah exactly, I think it will be interesting to watch though (if its even on in the UK, do you know if it is?) because we will see the difference between tour players games and a single figure handicaps games.
  4. Practice until you make sure that you hit the ball solidly. The amount of shots I wasted chipping because I chunked the ball, causing the ball to roll just on the front of the green, leaving me a 20 footer for par could have made my rounds about 3 less a time I think. I like to practice hitting low skidding chips at the hole and also higher chips with less roll so that I am prepared to chip the ball if I am 1 foot from the green or 2 yards. My way of chipping is to put my feet together and lean forward with my hands way in front of the ball, and make a smooth putting style stroke at the ball. That is my technique anyway, and it is far from good as I honestly do not have enough time to practice, well, that's my excuse anyway!
  5. Yer wouldn't want tiger to run after me and break my neck as he said he would if someone took a pic in his swing. I can't think of anything worse than watching someone in contention and my phone going off or something, especially if it was in their swing and they o.b.'d their shot, that would be awful.
  6. I think the guy that plays off of 1.5 and Justin Timberlake will break 100. The 1.5 would be because of his handicap, and I'm guessing he is very good, and I read that Justin plays a lot, every day I think, and he wishes to turn professional if possible if I am correct? I think that he has the determination and I think he also said that he hits the ball a long way for his build so that could help him. Also, I would love it if they spiced it up a bit and put a 15 handicapper to make it a bit of fun, then we could see how good the lower cappers really are, and make it more realistic in terms of us hacks.
  7. 100% tiger. Phil is number 2 but cmon, tiger is the best at every part of the game, mental, long, pitching, chipping and putting. Though, the person that spins the ball the most is phil :D - ridiculous.
  8. 1. British open (open championship). 2. US Open - Like seeing the thick rough and watching people putting on glass like greens. 3. Masters - Prestigious and a lot of fantastic players, also the first major. 4. PGA Championship - It doesn't seem as special :s
  9. Hi, I am thinking bout going to the open championship. I have a few questions to ask though. 1. Does anyone have any advice on accomodation? I would have to stay over and I understand that Travel Inns and lodges get pretty booked up. 2. Can I take my mobile phone in and use it as a camera/video camera or is it only the press that are allowed cameras as I have seen some people use them to take vids on youtube. Cheers, mgolfer
  10. Quite interesting, just shows how snobby golf can be. "wow, cypress point looks amazing. those are some real nice courses man, wonder what their membership fees are." If you have a hope of joining these courses, I am sure that the membership fees are a negligible to you.
  11. over rated: Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald Under rated: J.B. Holmes definitely - people are going to be hearing a lot from him in the next few months, he is astounding, Aaron Baddeley - very good player, don't hear about him much.
  12. Only if the cover starts to get chewed up...used to lose so many balls a round that it didn't matter, though now I only lose 1 or 2 balls max per 9 holes.
  13. Yes, twice unfortunately. Firstly, I think i must have sliced a tee shot ob or something with my driver as i ended up throwing it into a bush. It took me about 1-2 minutes to actually find it. Secondly, I threw my club along the ground on a par three, I think it was due to a duck hook into a bush I have dropped my clubs before a few times though. I try not to throw clubs etc. If i am in a huge temper I will hit the club into the ground, in such away that no mark/a very small mark will be made so I can make it look like it never happened :) This stops be from being angry for the next few holes.
  14. Even being a high handicap, with my average pitching wedge ive spun the ball back 10+ feet with a pro v1, slightly downhill though but when it bounces and the spin kicks in its so good. I wonder what would happen if I started using £70 wedges and hit like a pro (although my pitching wedge shots go really far, quite high up in the air with good spin, very accurate also)!!
  15. will do, cheers for the detailed response.
  16. Hi, I have clubs that are not custom fitted and I have a few questions about the process. 1. Is it possible to get your current clubs custom fitted or do they have to be ordered? 2. How much would it cost roughly (USD is fine as I can convert into pounds stirling). 3. What do they do to change your clubs after you have been custom fit? Thanks, mgolfer
  17. No spin, no win. The approach shots would roll off of the greens...
  18. I thought Baddeley played fantastically. Woods managed to get 12 birdies throughout that round and kudos to Baddeley for keeping up with him. If only he had holed those putts towards the end! Do you think Tiger deserved to win? He seemed quite lucky that Baddeley wasn't holing putts towards the end of the round, but I think that in the next few years, Baddeley could climb up the ladder from his 18th place in the world rankings.
  19. Hi, cheers again for the app, though i need to start noting down if i hit a fairway or not etc. Could you please keep us noted about any future scorecard apps for phones, currently on my nokia I have wireless18 which is a fantastic scorecard app, though you have to pay to keep your scores online for more than a certain amount of time, and it would be wonderful to add each score to the windows scorecard app after I play.
  20. I will try next time I am on the range cheers.
  21. The best I have ever seen live on tv was Miguel Angel Jiménez's hole in one at the Dubai desert classic 2008. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThGpbbogaU8 Straight in the hole :) Around 200 yards on a par 3. That is the best kind of hole in one imo as it looks so classy, though, if you hit it and it checked up and just rolled in like a putt, it would be fantastic to watch. Like Paul Casey in the Ryder Cup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO9RvmZ-Bco
  22. Aren't vokey spin milled banned on tour and soon to be banned in competitions? I dunno, I have only ever demoed a vokey spin milled and I thought it was nice but the bounce was too high, and not worth the money. The wedges from my iron set are really nice, if I can get up to 10 feet of backspin accuratly depending on the greens with a pro v1, I don't see why I should change wedges...
  23. Hi, I have no trouble hitting my 7-9 irons, wedges and woods but as soon as I hit my 5 iron (never really use 6 iron), I seem to fat or thin it, and can never get the correct contact as I do with my shorter irons. I know that I do have a flat backswing, but is there an easier fix, like stand taller or closer to the ball or something? Thanks
  24. It varies. Today I was playing with a pro v1 and each shot was stopping within 1-5 feet, even very low long pitching wedge shots. I hit one pitching wedge from 100 yards and it backed up about 15 feet diagonally left :o ...gotta love the pro v1s - I swear they make my game much less pressured, knowing that my ball won't just roll straight off of the green on approaches :) Meh, guess I sorta solved my own question :D
