I've got a few movies on my iPod. On a family trip over the holidays I hooked it up to the TV and we watched Angels and Demons one evening. It was comparable to DVD quality, maybe slightly inferior.

I'm going to take the opposite opinion here. Phil is Phil. He plays the game the way he wants to play it, and he's not going to change that. He's said as much himself. I think if he tried to play it any other way, it would take a great deal of joy out of the game for him. Phil isn't motivated simply to beat the other guy in the same way that Tiger is. Phil wants to win his way. Or more precisely, Phil wants to play his own game, and hopefully to do so well enough to win. And often enough, he does. Could Phil win more if he played a conventional game? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Won't be buying one anytime soon, but I could definitely see getting one sometime in the future.

Okay, another lost and found ball ruling question…
beisenhauer replied to localhawaii's topic in Golf Talk
"Deem" is not simply a synonym for "declare". Merriam-Webster.com defines it as "to come to think or judge." To "deem a ball lost" is an act of judgement that must be performed by a player based on the criteria set out in the rules. I never used the word otherwise, and this whole argument over the use of a simple word could have been avoided if that word had been properly understood rather than assumed to mean something it didn't. -

Once the ball is deemed lost and another ball is played, finding the original ball is moot. See the definition of "lost ball" in the rules. Since Player 3 proceeded under the water hazard rule and the ball was subsequently determined to be outside of the hazard, Player 3 played from a wrong place. See Decision 26-1/3. -
I've love my MX-25s, and I'll probably go with Mizuno irons again down the road. I've demoed one of their drivers, and it felt like a tin can on a stick. I'd like to try out their wedges, but I'm pretty happy with the ones I have for now. I also really like their Retroflex gloves. They're durable and fit my hand well. I haven't had any dealings with their customer service, so I can't speak to that.

What is Hank talking about here?

Think of Hogan's Pane of Glass. The bottom edge of the glass is the target line. If you take the club back on plane, when the club is parallel to the ground, it will also be parallel to the target line. If you take the club back to where it is parallel to the ground, and it is not parallel to the target line, you're off-plane. I think that's primarily what Haney's getting at there, though I haven't read the book. -

Interesting episode of Mythbusters last night

Actually, a friend of mine in college, who was an aeronautical engineering major, bought a hail-damaged car. 1) It was cheaper, and 2) he knew it would get better gas mileage. -
I play 3 of their wedges, a putter, a 3-wood and a hybrid. (See sig.) I have nothing bad to say about their products or their service. When the 3-wood developed a rattle shortly after I got it, I sent it back and they repaired it at no charge. They even paid for shipping. Another time, with one of their drivers, I sent it back for to get a softer shaft put in, and only had to pay shipping. (It's a good driver, but not particularly forgiving, so I don't use it anymore.) I really like the SGS wedges, but I don't spin the ball a lot; I prefer to let it run out. That said, they can put spin on the ball if you strike it well. (I've done that inadvertently once or twice.)

I figure they probably had to choose their spot in advance, and probably blind since they all seemed surprised when Andrew when all the way up to 100 yards, and then the producers had them hit in order from shortest to longest. I was impressed with Andrew's strategy. He had to know he'd take some barbs for going all the way forward, but he bet that under pressure at least three players would miss the green. It turned out well for him. Still will enjoy seeing him eliminated, though.

You only got twenty minutes? I got a whole friggin' BB: PEI marathon that was still going at 8:00 last night. DirecTV looks better every week.

Three holes played; three terrible putts from the Americans.

Marking a putting line.... is it in USGA regs????
beisenhauer replied to zrlaegel's topic in Golf Talk
Rule 8-2 (b) "When the player's ball is on the putting green, the player, his partner or either of their caddies may, before but not during the stroke, point out a line for putting, but in so doing the putting green must not be touched. A mark must not be placed anywhere to indicate a line for putting." -
I'm curious about what everyone thinks about the various incarnations/formats of Golf Channel's "Playing Lessons with the Pros". There have been, as I reckon it, four versions: "Personal Lessons" with a pro and two non-celebrity amateurs, the solo format with just the pro playing and talking about his or her game, the Stephanie Sparks version and the current celebrity playing lessons. My personal favorite was the "Personal Lessons" format, since it contained the most information that was useful to my own game. For the same reason I used to like the celebrity version for a while, but lately the show has degenerated into "play the ball forward in the sand," ad nauseam. And, seriously, Chris Riley and Kevin Sorbo? Where do they find these guys? I never thought Stephanie Sparks added anything to the show. So, how about it?

Pro V1 Practice ball?
beisenhauer replied to kleraudio's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Titleist says the same thing. Shot my best round ever with a ProV1x practice ball last week. -
78! First time I've broken 80. Still room for improvement: I had a 3-putt and two doubles.

Help Resolve this Disagreement about Yardages!!
beisenhauer replied to verse214's topic in Golf Talk
What would be the point of posting the distance from the tee box, down into a ravine, and back up the other side to a green that's level with the tee? As to whether posted distances take into account the difference in elevation between the green and wherever the distance is posted, I don't think it really matters. If, for example, a 150-yard post marks the "flat" distance to the center of a green that lies 45 feet below the fairway at that point (a pretty substantial drop), the "slope" distance would be 150 and 3/4 yards. If you're that worried about 27 inches more or less, I think Stevie is waiting for you on the first tee. -
I played the D2 Feels for most of last season. They felt great off the clubs, but I couldn't hold a green with them for anything. I tried a dozen Gamers and found the performance similar, but they were less durable. My wedges would somehow shred the cover without putting any spin on the ball.

Fun ruling question from the club champ. this past weekend
beisenhauer replied to Andy_Mac's topic in Golf Talk
He does incur a one-stroke penalty for hitting his own equipment (the cart), but once it comes to rest, he gets a free drop. His score should have been an 8. (Rule 19-2) This is why I carry a rule book with me on the course. -
Ranges from $11-$14 on a weekday at the courses I frequent around here.

Maybe we need an outing sometime for all the southern Illinois sand-trappers.
