If you don’t release the club, you end up with what I was battling with last week, a straight push to the right. From your wedges to about the 9 or 8 iron, you can get away with not releasing the club, but from the 7 iron and longer, you clubface won’t close in time. The issue with me was how I go about consciously closing the club face or releasing the club. So, a great drill I was told was to try and touch your forearms once the club gets passed your waist on the downswing. This causes your left wrist to supinate and your right wrist to pronate. It also promotes the “back handing” of the left hand to the target at impact. This roll continues past impact. Another drill is to keep your feet close together and swing from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock. Without thinking about it, you are actually releasing the club! You can actually see your right wrist starting to come over the left wrist before impact, square the club face at impact and continue to roll over your left wrist past impact. I’m no expert, but these drills help me understand the concept of releasing the club.

Aside from my PW, I carry the following: 52/10 56/10 60/6 My PW acts like a 9 iron, so I need to carry the GW. I also needed a wedge that would be ideal for shots

I agree. He played pretty well in the President's Cup. I remember there was a Par 3 hole on the first or second day. He took a swing and the ball landed about 3-5 inches from the cup. Just a great shot considering the presence he was in.

Just picked up a Karsten series putter last week. Practiced with it for about an hour yesterday and I am very happy with it.

Actually that is very good advice. As I have started playing a few months ago as well, I have no use for my driver right now and the longest iron I can hit is a 6 iron.

I'm a high handicapper and I know I WOULD NOT be able to get there in 2. I wouldn't be able to use my driver cause I can't hit that very well. So I would be using a 3W off the tee. I'm lucky if I can get that to go 200 yards with a roll. So, after 2 shots, I'll be about 120-150 yards from the green.

Trapping the ball was exactly what I learned from my instructor this past weekend as well. Trying to take the divot after the ball rather than before or no divot at all. My flaw: exaggerated weight on the back foot during the backswing. The exaggeration caused me to sway back and I couldn't catch up on the downswing. That caused very fat shots and inconsistent ball flight. Fix: Try to stay stationary during the backswing and come forward during the downswing. Taught me the feeling of a strong left at impact, coming forward on the downswing, and taking a divot after the ball. Conclusion: trapping the ball. Consistent ball flight and increased distance.

I've got the same book. It's really great for fundamentals and mental aspect of the game.

In NY, most of the courses are open during the winter unless there's snow on the ground. In a mild winter, we can play almost all year round.

I don't have a specific story to share but ebay is not what it used to be. There are more sharks and fakes in ebay than I care to discuss. I use ebay to find out market prices and going rates on certain items, but I don't think I would ever buy from ebay.

I'm the same way. Usually I go the same the place every week. Really awesome prices right now on stuff because they are trying to move inventory in time for all the new stuff that comes in before Thanksgiving.
