  1. First world problems
  2. The wedges I have heard are pretty damn good. Hunter Mahan still plays an eye 2 lob wedge I believe.
  3. So I hate doing the "what should I get thread" but after updating my bag this year I realize a 3 wood is something that I desperately need something that is a reliable club to pull off the tee. Lately I have had to resort to a 4 iron off the tee when I need that shot down the fairway and it is reliable but on the longer par 4's it can be a hassle to have my tee shot leave me with a 5 iron into the green. A little about my game: swing speed is about 110 MPH with a driver Naturally hit a draw Not looking for huge distance just something that is reliable Currently playing an old jazz bearcat (love the simple look at address) Do not hit it from the fairway at all but looking to try to learn how to not looking to spend huge $$$ trying to keep it around $200 (In canada that leaves choices like Razr fit, cobra amp, JPX 800 ect)
  4. I have a membership on a cheap 9 hole course which I golf every day where I have no problem breaking 40 with the occasional crap round over 45. I find when I play on a different course over 18 my back 9 goes to hell, even on a brand new course my front nine is always good but come back 9 I usually shoot much higher than the first 9 sometimes by 5-10 strokes. I was wondering if other golfers that exclusively play 9 hole courses have this same problem.
  5. The way he mentioned it seemed a little off especially the "I wore out my old ones" suggests he was bragging. And I was looking at a previous thread http://thesandtrap.com/t/45647/sweetspot-on-irons-where-the-good-players-hit-it and a dime seems pretty god damn small to be hitting the ball everytime. But OP could post pictures and prove us all wrong.
  6. Wait you first complained about how these shafts were garbage and how you broke one during a round from slamming it on the ground about 2 months ago. Then you got refitted for shafts that were $50 more and claiming to be the same thing? Lawyer isn't what you need common sense is what you need.
  7. Today shot a shit round (with a friend for free drank more beer than golf) Hit a 6 iron like I have been trying to by compressing the ball and taking a divot much after the ball and cranked a 6 iron 200 yards. Not a bit of exageration here I looked for the ball 30 yards short of the green, turns out it was pin high 2 yards off.
  8. This is very important. Do not worry about getting irons that fit your class, get what feels best but most of all looks best in your eyes and inspires confidence. Once you get to a certain skill club build doesn't really matter (to a point). Many Pro's use Irons that would fall under the Game Improvement category and even more use some that would be a very forgiving player cavity back. so mainly pick what has the best feel mentally and physically.
  9. Not necessarily. If you live in Colorado (Not an American so might not be the best example) and hit your 7 iron 160 yards then go vacationing in Florida for some of the winter where it is low altitude and humid that 7 iron might only be going 150 maybe even 140. I had a family friend that is a pretty good average golfer and said he would consistently come up 1 club short when he played down in Georgia this spring (our altitude is high and air is very dry.)
  10. One rare occasion and pot is labelled as a violent drug? after reading that article I would say that it doesn't matter if that guy smoked pot before the incident or not he had some serious mental issues regardless of what he intook into his body.
  11. I always feel jumping in to something to fast may be damaging but being slow can not in many pro sports lot's of players have been ruined because of jumping up too early. A lot of it is just confidence issues which can really increase exponentially with a teenager or 20 year old turning professional. Not saying college is the be all end all I just think it is a good way to accurately assess where you stand opposed to a few odd professional tournaments.
  12. Coming from more of a background studying (in some cases knowing) hockey players and up and coming prospects I would say it is better to wait and mature in college instead of jumping into the big dance right away. here are my reasons: 1) In all honesty what harm could come from tearing up the college circuit? If he finds it too easy then he gets some much needed confidence 2) Lets say he jumps into pro right away first 3 months he never makes a cut, that is tough for even a pro to take yet alone a kid who can't even buy beer yet? Pro may be a good idea but young players (in all sports) put under too much pressure can collapse quite easily and ruin their careers.
  13. Holy crap reading the testing that some people do for their work leaves me to believe that there are some CIA agents here (kidding guys). I have never encountered it on the course nor would it bother me. If it did bother me for drug testing purposes and such I would simply explain my situation to them and ask if they could avoid me when lighting up. Remember guys if you are polite to people they have a tendency to be polite to you. As for what LovinItAll has to say I couldn't agree with you more I don't have a problem if you smoke it or do whatever recreational street drugs you want but for the love of god do not drive impaired under any substance. If you want marijuana to be legalized like alcohol then treat it like alcohol do not drive high ever. Thank you for saying this, and you are by no means a douche.
  14. Well imagine you are putting and absolutely crush a ball that might normally go 5 feet by the hole but it hits the centre of the pin and drops. That is why there is a penalty stroke added if you are on the putting surface and your ball Hits it. Only if your ball hits it is a penalty assessed if it doesn't hit the flag stick then no harm no foul. As for OP play golf however you want do what makes it enjoyable for you just don't go bragging to your friends about the 78 you shot without counting 3 lost balls and don't claim to keep an accurate handicap either. I usually do the "breakfast ball" especially when I haven't been able to swing a club for a few days. As will often leave the flag in for putts more than 40 feet so I can see the hole and for time, and for line purposes when. I only do this when I play alone however.
  15. I noticed in your first post having questions about Adams, personally I like them they are making some quality clubs without the "big brand" price, however their clubs are longer than most so if you are -1/2" then I would say don't bother. If you look on Callaway Preowned it should mention along the specs of each set what kind of lie it was adjusted too (if at all). Any Ideas on what you are looking for on Callaway preowned?
  16. Never tried them the extra 100 dollars didn't seem like it was worth it, plus I am not a fan of looking down on them.
  17. I have a setup similar where my 5 wood is a regular and all my other clubs are stiff. It keeps me from trying to kill the ball on a club I am not normally good at hitting (5 wood). I would assume yours serves the same purpose you are not gonna go swinging as hard as you can on a less forgiving club (4-6 iron) because if you do the results will be very far off target.
  18. Thats your opinion I guess. I think it is a pretty darn good driver if you ask me.
  19. I always thought even back then they were known for their extreme unforgiveness
  20. I am by no means a scratch golfer (or even that good to be honest) but a fun little game I play when I am on my own and have lots of time on the course is "worst ball." Going to the range will help big time but once you got your shots down pat you have to put it into practice, and being able to get up and down from your worst positions will save you quite a few strokes.
  21. Well with clubs that old and especially with all the forgiveness that has been added in to clubs over the last 10 years I would definitely recommend a new set. if you visit http://www.callawaygolfpreowned.com it is a great site that is authenticated too. Check out the x18's or the big bertha line. Also check out your local golf store (hopefully it is a non chain store) and see what kind of deals they have on clubs and maybe used clubs that they could fit you for. Local shops are more likely to go the extra mile for you on customer service.
  22. If the specs fit you then by all means jump on it. X20's rank very high on my list of clubs.
  23. Anyone else here "esophogus" on lee westwood's tee shot
  24. Why does that matter though? hell I have a friend that gave himself a "blackout hole" where you shade in the score for that hole and don't count the score, he would refer to his round as "yup I shot a 45 with 2 blackouts." If people want to go out there and say they shoot a 58 and they really shot a 90 then go ahead. Doesn't hurt my game at all, as long as they are having fun
