  1. I have plateaued again. Because I am hitting greens, I need to sink more putts. Ugh.
  2. Stay on the range until 75% of shots are straight with 6i or 7i. Take it to the course using nothing longer than 6i or 7i. That's how I broke 90 and plunged to a 10 hcp. Plateaued for 2 years until I finally figured out the longer clubs just 5 months ago.
  3. You want your club on a lower plane in the downswing. Take your hands inside first, leaving the clubhead behind in the takeaway. This will layoff the club at the top, dropping it onto a lower plane before starting down.
  4. Would I benefit from sliding my hips in a S&T; swing ?
  5. I play 9 solo every morning at 6:30, off the course by 8. Avoids the crowds, the mowers and the hot weather.
  6. April 17th I learned a radical new swing and since then my hcp has dropped from 10.2 to 5.5. I was always told that progress in single digits is not fast but this experience proves it is possible.
  7. Finally learned how to aim the blade. I get a straight penetrating shot dropping like a rock in a slight fade at the end. This is a big improvement, hcp down to 5.5 but I can't see it getting much better without a lot of short game work.
  8. If you accidentally hit into or near a group, they may confiscate your ball and say nothing. That happened during a playing lesson when my instructor hit a 270 yard shot over a hill.
  9. Turn shoulders, aim the blade, stay horizontalized.
  10. That's what the TGM imperatives teach. Monitor lag pressure to regulate aggressive rotation. There is another method called 'containment' where the power package geometry is maintained from transition down to club parallel. By leading the downswing with the right shoulder contained by an expanded right side. Feels like OTT, but it isn't because the clubhead stays back.
  11. Strongly disagree. Like any discipline (Engineering comes to mind) golf requires analysis to improve. The seekers win.
  12. S&T; has worked for those who are seekers, who persevere. When you are going through hell, keep going. I was stuck at double digits for a long time before entering the promised land.
  13. Sadly we are following Japan which has lost 95% of its golfing memberships since 1990.
  14. The key to dropping my handicap has been consistently hitting greens through control, not length...18 degree hybrid. Not saying it's easy...
  15. For a beginner, they should concentrate on just throwing a club at a target until they can hear the whoosh of the clubhead occurring after impact, not before. Just by throwing a club the subconscious will eventually feel and engrain: how the whip effect of lag improves the whoosh how to monitor lag pressure with the index finger how to use the pivot instead of the arms how to sling the club in takeaway how to use clubhead tipback to signal initiation of the downswing how to shift weight correctly how upper/lower body separation automates the correct downswing sequence how overswinging is counterproductive how overacceleration from the top causes clubhead 'whoosh' to be heard before impact
  16. Good ballstrikers start out learning golf from the green to the tee, not the other way around. Learn to chip and pitch first, ie get the feel of 'leading the lag'.
  17. Martin Ayers coaches Steve Elkington now, since April 17th. I was there that Saturday in NJ when Steve first took a lesson from Martin, after missing the cut the day before.
  18. Getting into early position to hit...means getting as far forward and rotated as possible. The golf ball doesn't care WHAT you call it or HOW you do it.
  19. Feels good until you start thinking about the next step. Down to Scratch !
  20. I agree with an earlier poster that 'getting into position to hit' means getting as far forward and rotated as possible. I couldn't get into position to hit until I learned how to use momentum of 'the sling' in the backswing to propel me to the target, naturally, PRIOR to rotating. Trying to intentionally slide my hips or to push off with the right foot never worked consistently.
  21. The easier I hit it, the farther it goes.
  22. On the range today I discovered that if I first dial in my tempo, rhythm and balance with practice swings before every real swing, my consistency approaches 100%. Valuable lesson. Down to Scratch !
  23. What helps me is placing the ball outside my left heel for ALL clubs which creates a subscious urge to shift EARLY or else I will whiff the ball. Having gotten into an early position to hit, I then have to be patient until the clubhead tips back before starting down. It works for me, but your mileage may vary.
  24. Hitting down on the ball is a reaction, not an action. It results from good dynamics in transition including the lateral shift and waiting for the 'tipback' of the clubhead before initiating the downswing. A video of Tiger's transition is about 2/3 of the way down this article : http://www.aroundhawaii.com/lifestyl...ransition.html
