Thoughts? Yay or nay? Any test coming up soon?

Anyone have thoughts or tried the new TM wedge with the replaceable face? I had a discussion with a friend on feel vs. durability. Gimmicky? I am not changing my Vokey's, but am interested in the general consensus out there.

It comes down to simple economics. The "Big Boys" of the golf industry have a seemingly unlimited amount of marketing budgets, so they can afford to put their logos and clubs in the hands of the better tour pro's. Cleveland's equipment is just as good as the others, Vijay Singh still plays Cleveland. Find the Darrell Survey and I'll bet Cleveland wedges are second to Vokey in the bags of touring pro's.

Hope this helps out... http://www.golfworks.com/images/art/BenHogan.pdf Best of luck. E-

My head pro and I were discussing the Swing Glove one day and loved the idea, but $35 dollars and no way to transfer the mechanism to another glove. How about using medical tongue depressors. They are flatter and longer than tees, and you can get about 100 of them for $5 from your local drug store.

Let's not forget this stat...after one tournament...27.75 putts per round vs. the tour average of 29. He read the greens at Torrey better than anyone in the field. I think the flatstick is going to be the difference maker at the Open.

Please Help me select a new Driver!
egolfs replied to dave39's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Let me ask a question: I want to buy a new car, which do you think I should buy? Keep in mind I live in a northern climate, a family of 3, and do not want to test drive any of them Porsche Boxter Nissan X-Terra Chevy Corvette Ford F-150 Dodge Charger Aston Martin DBS Range Rover LR7 Mini Cooper S -
Your $80 putter would sell for $20 today if purchased new. Like all technology, yesterday's top of the line is today's low end. The 2-Ball was $200 when it was released 4 years ago, today the same 2-Ball is selling for $99 dollars. This is no different than cars, computers, drivers, irons etc. If want the latest technology you have to be willing to pay for it. If you don't want to pay for it, wait until it is outdated technology and get it on clearance.

The diameter of the shaft should match the core diameter of the grip. To determine which grip best fits your hands, measure from your wrist (base of hand) to the end of your longest finger. If the dimension is less than 6.5 inches, use a junior grip; 6.5 to 7 inches, use a ladies grip; 7 to 7.5 inches, use a standard grip; 7.5 to 8 inches, use a mid-size grip and over 8 inches choose a jumbo grip.

I agree with you 201%. In my experience the desire to hit a lower loft stems from two issues: 1. An antiquated school of thought. It wasn't too long ago the average loft on a Tour driver was 7-8*. Heck, I even hit a 8* Callaway GBB for several years. Which leads to issue # 2. EGO. Only women or seniors hit a 11* or greater lofts! As several posters have already commented...get fit for the right launch angle. L+S=D

Is the shaft the most important element of the driver?
egolfs replied to b_diddy746's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If the shaft wasn't that important, why is every major manufacturer scrambling to make use of the USGA (and R&A; I believe) ruling allowing the use of adjusting the shaft in a club head. Nike will have a retail model of their club fitting system by the end of the summer. As I heard on a Podcast with the head of R&D; from UST, shafts are one of the fastest developing technologies in the game, no longer is it just a choice of steel or graphite. As another poster said "Shafts are just half the club." -
Pro V1 vs Callaway HX Tour
egolfs replied to wannabegolfpro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I actually prefer the Callaway to Titleist as well. What is going to happen to the ProV1 now that Titleist has lost the lawsuit to Callaway? -
TaylorMade SuperQuad - distance issues...
egolfs replied to polred2007's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am playing the SuperQuad w/ a 9.5*, was playing an 8.5* Titleist 983K, I seem to be getting about 10-15 yards extra with the TM. As for 9.5* vs 10.5*, initial launch angles may be higher with the 10.5, but your side spin may be slightly reduced on mishits off center. As with anything in golf, getting fitted will show you how the launch, backspin, and side spin can be affected with the different lofts. -
What make of grips do you use?
egolfs replied to PutterHead's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am thinking of switching from the Winn Xi7 to either the GP MultiCompound or the new PCi. Has anyone else had a problem with the paint on the MultiCompound rubbing off rather quickly. Put one (black w/ red) on my 5i to try it out, and after about 20-30 swings my thumbs were pretty black, and the grip looked like it was about 6 months old. Makes me a little concerned. So I am waiting for my PCi to arrive to try it out and make my decision, for this season. -

Here is a scenerio for ya: I had a guy in the shop yesterday looking to buy a new driver. Prepared to buy, educated on the products, knew clubs and specs he was looking for, and wanted to hit a couple to verify his decision. Put him in the range, we started conversing a little more about his game, how he did last year, what he was looking for out of this year and this new driver. I thought I had him pegged. I had a great idea of what he needed. Then he stepped up to the tee. Everything about his swing was completely opposite of what he was telling me! When he told me he was hitting to the right I automatically assumed (I know, my bad) he was slicing, oh no, it was an absolute block to the right, and that was when he made contact with the ball. Now, let me pose this question back to you...How do I tell this golfer a $300-$400 dollar driver is not going to help his game. Now let me explain, yes I am in the business to sell golf equipment, but I am also in the "business" of developing relationships with my customers, of watching them grow and improve their game, of having them come back to me elated with their equipment. I wanted to tell this gentleman to spend $100-$150 of his budget on last years model, and invest the rest in a couple of lessons, then reward himself with a new driver when he reached a playing goal. He could even trade in the old driver towards the purchase of the new one. So, again, I turn this question around...how do I propose this, or how would you take it if I made this suggestion?

Go Pack Go!! I lives 20 minutes from Lambeau, and I won't even get to see the game, my company has decided it still wants to do inventory @ 7p Sunday night! Corporate HQ is in Pittsburgh, I bet if the Steelers were playing it would be a completely different story! Is it worth getting fired to see Brett win another NFC Championship?

I too am surprised no one has mentioned the SQ 2 fairway. Of the recent offerings by the Big Boys this was also one of my favorites. I am excited to see what Callaway is going to offer with the new Hyper X fairways. I agree though, if you an get your hands on a TM V-Steel, I would seriously consider it.

I took the Dave Pelz school of thought for the last two seasons and went 46-53-56-60. (I took out the 5w when I added the 3h) This season I am going to try 46-52-58. Less confusion, more comfortable with one wedge within 75 yards, more capable of knowing ball reactions from different lies. At least that is what I am hoping for!

I am an assistant pro for one of the largest golf retailers in the world. Hopefully within the next 3 years I'll have a store of my own. There does seem to be a rather large contingent of IT folk on this forum.
