I've watched a few seasons in the past. Don't know if I prefer the all women, all men, or mixed. All women are nice to look at but they are all a bit on the "catty" side. All men have a tendency to be a bit on heavy side of testosterone. We'll see how this season goes.....

What was the course?
-
I was discussing it with a friend, and he said the same thing. I love that I don't know everything about this great game.

I would have to say none of the above. But, if these were the only choices or if it happend to me I would say #1. Even though it was 12 seconds and I believe the alotted time frame is 10 seconds, the player did not mark their ball. Granted all of these scenarios would be scored as a 1, it seems a stretch to claim 2 and 3 are a true hole in one. #1 would seem the closest situation to claim a hole in one. Anyway you look at it I'll take a 1 on a par 3 any day of the week.

I like your style. I turned 41 this year, I work as a welder/fabricator, but I'm also a licensed plumber. Some of the best exercise I get is walking 18 after working all day on my feet, sometimes bent up in strange positions to weld up something. Temps here this year got up to around 106 with over 50% humidity.

I've enjoyed reading this thread. Since February of this year I've played about 25 rounds (18holes). Not as many as I would have liked, but due to finances and other commitments I'm glad for what I've done. My scores have gone from the high 90's to the mid to high 80's and are getting better, thanks to suggestions from this site and PRACTICE.... In all the times I've played there has been only 1 time a guy I played with walked as well. I've never seen anyone at my home course walk. IMO I think if people see carts then they think they have to ride. Granted, the 3 pull carts my home course offers to use look like they got pulled out of a dumpster. Back in June when the weather started getting into the high 90's with high humidity I went out one morning, tee'd off about 6:45am and by the time I was on the 6th tee I had to sit down for a bit. It was already sooooo hot and humid. That's when I decided, for the safety of my health I'd start riding. Now that the weather is cooling off, I've started walking again. My home course is not very long, 6210 yds. That's a little over 3 miles, as the crow flies. It's great exercise since there are a few nice hills to get the blood pumping. I said it before, carts just make me feel rushed. Every time I've played with anyone who was in a cart and I was walking, I had to wait on them.

Hola to the french Texan!!!! (never thought I'd say such an international greeting)

So as of right now I'm in the "saving" process. I'm pretty sure it's probably gonna run me about $1500 - $2000. My plan is to find a quality fitter and try out several different brands and styles. I admit I've talked a lot to my wife about getting some AP1's or 2's, but that's only because I've been playing with some DCI gold's. Really, from everything I've read, it would be wise to, like I said before, try out several different brands.

Things ground to a halt. Now the club feels strange in my hands.

Do you play in tournaments such as a state am ? Maybe it's time for a new "challenge"? No offense intended, just a thought. -
As for myself, I have recently taken a big step in the direction of lowering scores. The last 3 times I played my scores ended up being 2 over on 9 holes, 4 over on 9 holes, and 19 over on 18. The first 2 I remember being very relaxed ( I was walking) and as someone said earlier, every shot was important. The most important thing I noticed was that I didn't get too emotional, I was in control of my emotions. I would hit a bad shot; so what. I would hit a good shot; so what. I didn't get too upset with the bad or too excited with the good; very neutral. Now as far as the 19 over, I had worked all week and even the morning of the afternoon I played. I was tired and really didn't want to play, I wanted to rest, but played anyway. I don't play well when I'm tired. My job is very physically demanding. I am learning to cut myself some serious slack. I'm learning that "my game" is NOT the score, but all that goes into leading up too the swing. Sometimes the round starts days prior to me even getting to the course. It's easy for me to get wrapped up in all that goes into golf and forget that enjoying myself should be #1 priority.

I prefer to walk. If the temp is over 95 I'll ride in a cart though, I don't feel heat stroke is very beneficial to my game. Riding in a cart just doesn't seem natural as far as this sport is concerned. Makes me feel like I'm in a big hurry.

Good for you. I'm a welder/ fabricator and I also play drums 4 times a week with a praise and worship team at my church.

The 2 courses in my town cost less than $25 for 18 with a cart year round. They do have a twilight rate of $15 for a cart and as much as you can play before dark.

What Does the Average Weekend Golfer Shoot?
Jeffrey71 replied to SLeDHeaDDude800's topic in Golf Talk
So at one time I played golf with a couple guys I work with. When I hear the term "average weekend golfer" my mind immediatly thinks of them. These guys will improve their lye on most shots, they do not hit a provisional just in case, and "gimmie" is their reward for a decent approach shot or to save a up and down for par. The last time we played together when they totaled their score it was in the low to mid 90's. I know of course they each should have added at least 5 strokes. I don't claim to know all the rules, but I do adhere to the ones I know and I don't do "gimmies". I don't play with these guys anymore, mainly because of their attitude towards the game. I don't have a problem with someone going out and playing however they want, I have a problem when they want me to play like them so they feel justified in their screwed up game. I found, for me, the best way to learn the tough shots is to take them as they lye, whether it's on the dirt, in the rocks, or behind a root. These are the shots that drive me to keep learning to hit the fairways off the tee and hit more GIRs -

I agree. I can only afford maybe 1 or 2 rounds a week, due to finances and schedule. In the time I'm not playing I practice. I want my game to improve and I know it won't improve without practice. I also know that improving your lye with a foot wedge or any of that kind of garbage WON'T help, so I don't do it. If I have a question about a situation, I go ahead a take the penalty stroke or two, then after consulting the rules or even sending an e-mail to get a ruling, then I will adjust my score if needed. Last week I played 9 one day and on a par 35 shot a 37. The next day played 9 at a different course, par 36 and shot a 40. I believe the term "average weekend golfer" is too vague and just because a person doesn't play everday doesn't make them a hack... -

What Does the Average Weekend Golfer Shoot?
Jeffrey71 replied to SLeDHeaDDude800's topic in Golf Talk
All I know to do is keep practicing and keep playing as much as I can afford to. The past 2 nine hole rounds I played I shot a 37 on a par 35 and a 40 on a par 36. Practicing is starting to pay off - things are just "clicking". I don't use a foot wedge or mulligans, serves no purpose other than hurting myself. Plus, it doesn't help me with my golf goals. A lot of people will move a ball if they hit it in the dirt. My thought is, if you don't want to play out of the dirt - don't hit in it. -
What is the most annoying guy at your course like?
Jeffrey71 replied to Todd Ruggere's topic in Golf Talk
Some days I'm the most annoying person to myself........ -
Usually, I go onto the "e-golfer" clubhouse thing so I can post my stats on the hole-by-hole. I posted last night and everything worked just fine.

What Does the Average Weekend Golfer Shoot?
Jeffrey71 replied to SLeDHeaDDude800's topic in Golf Talk
I can only speak for myself, but I can only afford about $30 a week for golf; maybe. I try to keep it to 1 round (18 holes) a week. Now, that being said, the days I don't play, I practice. I'm grateful to have areas near and around my house where I can practice short game stuff without spending money (120 yards and in). If I go to the range that's $7 for a large basket of balls so I try to make it very effective, thinking about every shot and taking my time. As far as the"average weekend golfer" I'd say you would have to look at how many hours a week go into his/her game. Right now, due to my schedule of events (no particular order of merit); job (8 hrs a day and maybe 1/2 a day OT on Saturdays), church band practice once a week, church services 3 times a week, work around the house, and spending time with my wife; I really try to put in at the minimum of 1 hour a day through the week for practice on some aspect of the game. Would I like to do more? Absolutely. I feel that the "average weekend golfer" doesn't practice very much if any, and might play every weekend if the mood strikes them. Golf is definitely low on the priority list for this sort. -
Rock Creek Golf Course - Par 36 3030 yds. 35.5/106 Haven't played this course in a while. Wanted to play a different course today. Yesterday I shot a 37 (2 over) on my home course so I wanted to see if this was a fluke. Shot a 40 (4 over). Seems like practicing is starting to pay off. I hit 6 fairways, 3 GIR, and had 15 putts.

I understand... taking things from the range to the course is sometimes quite difficult. Kinda like getting to a par 5 in 2 then 4 putting. It's like a kick in the pants

I told my wife when I reach a 10 HC I'm gonna get a crazy knicker outfit. She just rolled her eyes......
