Which driver do you use?
golfEnthusiast replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
king cobra 454 comp. i love the club overall; i had to adjust my swing a bit for it, but now that i am used to it, it works great. pros: i am able to acheive good distance, and control cons: after trying out a few other drivers such as the nike sumo... something about it does not seem as smooth as the nike sumo. The nike just seemed to automatically go back on the correct swing path. I guess this would not be a good club for a beginner. overall i can't complain though, because it works for me! -
i just remembered this one day, i had quite a buzz. i went out and sunk this 30 foot putt... but then after that, i managed to send a few less than 6 foot putts sailing past the hole; probably farther away then where they started. the wonders of "party golf"...

golf has to be one of the few sports, where you can have a few beers; and it can potentially help your performance... so my question for all of you: how does alcohol affect your game? Do you feel it helps you, or hinders you? For me; sometimes it does wonders. Actually; i used to have a hard time hitting my driver straight. One day i was out on the course, had a little alcohol in me, and it helped me figure out what was missing in my swing. The relaxation helped me have a more smooth swing, that allowed me to change my slice into a nice fade. But at the same time; obviously there is a limit. If i don't pace myself, then it starts to go downhill...

if you don't want to get a membership at a club, then the only options i see are: 1. going to the range and practicing all the time or 2. paying to play at public courses....

I think it's annoying when people do it during competition, when posting scores, and when betting. If it's just a practice round, or playing around with friends, then its fine w.me

how does the winter affect your personal golf game. I have heard some people say that they think they play better in the winter. Me personally; i can not swing the ball with anything more than a polo, and underarmor, so if it's less than 45-50 degrees out, i can not swing very well at all. I notice that i lose distance on alot of my shots; but on very cold days i get much more roll. how does winter affect your game?

most bizarre or funny shot you have hit (or seen)
golfEnthusiast replied to Eore's topic in Golf Talk
my most bizzare shot was from about 100 yards to the pin on a par 4. It was my second shot, and i hit the ball way too far. It hit the flag in the air, and dropped within a very close distance to the hole. -
Mine was one day when i was playing in a scramble. It was me (i am a girl) and these two guys, playing against a foursome of 3 guys and a girl. We came up to the ninth hole, and figured that we would need to birdie the hole in order to win the scramble. The two guys that i was playing with teed off and both hit bad shots. The pressure was on me! Somehow i hit a perfect drive, within 100 yards of the pin. Then, on the second shot, both of my teammates hit the ball on the green, but definitely not close to the pin. I hit my second shot, and it almost went in the hole for an eagle. We ended up birdie-ing the hole, and it turned out we didn't need to in order to win... but i was just excited that i kicked ass under that type of competitive pressure.

I started when i was 16. I applied for a job at my local golf course because i thought that driving golf carts was like the coolest job in the world. A couple of my friends worked there too, and they convinced me to go out and play golf, and even gave me a set of old clubs. I remember the 1st time i played, it was so frustrating, because it took so much patience. But that day started an addiction, because by the end of that summer i was out playing everyday! I think golf is more addictive than cigarettes.

I'd say chunk. I usually chunk the ball when the grass is wet, and i am chipping from a distance of less than 50 yard. It's so frustrating, because you just know that if the ground had been a little harder, you would have just had a perfect shot. And it's even more frustrating when you chunk it a second or third time right after that!

190-200 ish (i am female by the way)

i think it was about a 110, on my home course. i just could not keep the ball in bounds to save my life...

for all you golf nuts that play all the time (like me)... how do your non-golfing friends and family feel about you playing so much? do they think you are crazy? have you ever skipped out on an important day at work, or an important function to go golfing? during the summer i play AT LEAST eighteen holes, pretty much every day. my family thinks i am obsessed (they are right). my best friend gets mad at me sometimes because she thinks i spend too much time golfing.

Are most people exagerating their long drive exploits
golfEnthusiast replied to jfrain2004's topic in Golf Talk
Like others have allready said... chipping and putting is what really matters... but it's funny how people exaggerate. my theory is that most people probably say take the distance on their longest drive ever, and say that's their "average" driving distance -
i definitely think short game. putting is how you score. why do you think that's mainly what they show on tv golf? at the club i golf at, there is one group of golfers that is WAY better than everyone else. In playing with them, i realized that they weren't better because they hit the ball much farther, or had a straighter shot than anyone else, but because they consistently made putts that were beyond the "gimme" range.
-
I probably would play better if i were more of a "new ball snob" i'm too cheap to buy new balls, so i i'll hit anything i find. Of course, i don't mind playing with brand new pro-v's though!

To me it is waiting around. For how impatient i am, i do not see how i am a golfer Also, looking for lost balls gets on my nerves too

don't worry, my mom is the same way. we went to the liquor store one day, and she had no club what so ever about wines. i'm no expert or anything but my personal favorite is pino grigio.

As another post said in the first page... i don't know if you have ever played baseball before, but the weight shift on a golf swing is very similar. If you can think about hitting the golf ball the way you hit a baseball, that may help.

i am not a member of a private club, but i work at one. i am still in college, but as soon as i can afford it, i will join one. I love the whole social atmosphere of a private club; how everyone knows each other. You could be on one hole, and see some people on another hole and be like, "oh hey there's mike and jim!" Also, the weekly leagues that go on at the club i work at are alot of fun, as are all the other social events. It's a great way to meet people, and make good contacts.

Which fairwaywoods do you use?
golfEnthusiast replied to hypergolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
king cobra baffler 5H works well for me when i am looking to hit the ball perfectly straight. when going for distance, i use a nike sasquatch 3 wood. Always goes far, but i am not as consistent with this club, and hit it with a slight fade. -
i know an incorrect lie angle can cause problems with the directon in which you hit the ball, and distance. Also, if you are hitting it off the toe; that definitely takes off distance.
