  1. Not to rain upon your parade, but I find it funny that your swing stats changed so much once the $300 shaft was used. Did you try any reasonably priced non-stock shafts as well?
  2. Is it the gun blue or charcoal mist version? If it's gun blue you should buy some silicone spray and silicone cloth to wipe it down with after use. If it's charcoal mist it should be pretty maintenance free other than keeping it clean and dry when not playing. The Circa putters are pretty sweet. I'm thinking about getting a #2 as well as my 2 #3's.
  3. I really have a problem making a good stroke at these putts. As a right handed golfer these are generally accepted as the toughest putts to make from short range, but that shouldn't keep us from making them. I always seem to make a very poor stroke, usually outside to inside stroke, thus cutting the putt and missing it right. Does anyone have tips on these? If I try to make a very short backswing it seems to help, but I still tend to cut and then miss these putts.
  4. I once knocked it on the green from over 200 out with an 8 iron (Tommy Armour 855 that had 40 degrees loft). A good full shot with that club would go 155 under normal conditions. It was downwind from a very nice flyer lie in the rough. It wasn't downhill either, so I don't doubt that Sergio could do it with a 9 iron.
  5. I voted for the Open's 4 hole playoff. Instant sudden death brings too much luck into the equation and a full 18 hole playoff on Monday drags the event out too much and probably lessens the interest by average fans. How about a 9 hole putt-off on the practice green like we do at the local muni?
  6. It was a joke to have 17 be the first playoff hole in sudden death because there is too much luck involved on that hole. The Players should go to a 3 hole playoff (16, 17, 18) to decide. That would be entertaining and still be able to showcase 17.
  7. I don't see how topping a golf ball could cause that dent.

    Private Clubs

I'm thinking about joining a private club. Can anyone help me out with their experiences about being a member at a club. Positives/negatives? The one I'm most interested in would probably be considered middle of the road when it comes to costs and exclusivity. Thanks
  9. I'm not sure. What I do know is that my new MP57's are indeed approx 1/2" longer than my old Ping i3's that I've used for the last 6 years when I line them up for comparisson. It's just weird because I wouldn't think an extra 1/2" could cause issues. I'm hoping that it's more an issue of being early in our golf season and not my swing or clubs.
  10. I probably use my SW 75% of the time. If I'm short sided I'll use a LW and if I have more than usual amounts of green to work with I'll use my GW or 9 iron.
  11. I got new MP-57's this winter and was fitted at Golfsmith. They suggested I have the irons made 1/2" longer. I've always made larger that average divots with my irons so I know my margin for error is small when it comes to chunks. Now that the weather has warmed up and I've been able to hit my new babies all I seem to do is chunk them. I'm starting to wonder if it is me or the 1/2" extra length in the shaft. Any thoughts?
  12. I got new MP-57's this year and am struggling with my 3 iron. Granted, the season is young here in Minnesota, but after playing 4 rounds and hitting the range once I'm finding the 3 iron to be troubling. I either chuck it or hit it decent but no more than 15-20 feet off the ground. Maybe I just need to find my swing or practice more. I also switched from Ping i3 oversize to MP-57 so the new 3 iron looks like a butter knife compared to the Ping.
  13. My sig has what I'm pretty much set on playing this year. I'm thinking about making a fairway wood change as my current one is 10 yrs old. Maybe a Callaway FT or Taylor Made Burner TP. I'm also tinkering with either my Circa #3 of XG #9 as my flatstick.
  14. I'd keep your current irons and see how much you do end up playing. If you only play once or twice a month your current irons will probably be sufficient. If you catch the golf bug you'll know when it's time for an equipment update. No reason spending lots of $$$ for something you are not sure that you'll take up seriously.
  15. I got fitted at Golfsmith for my irons and driver. They use swing tape to find the appropriate lie angle and a launch monitor for shaft flex. Not the most technical fitting, but probably adequate for most players. If you want an in depth fitting you may want to look elsewhere.
  16. I maybe buy 1 or 2 dozen balls a year and get the rest from tournament prizes and vendors at work.
  17. Grain Belt Premium, which is now brewed in New Ulm Minnesota.
  18. Immelman 75 -8 total Snedeker 75 -6 total Flesch 73 -7 total Casey 70 -9 total Woods 69 -8 total Cink 74 -2 total Casey beats Woods by one. Any other predictions????
  19. 13 - A hole where anything from 3 to 8 shots is possible on Sunday.
  20. Donald, Mickelson or Couples
  21. Good point. Badds isn't such a dork though.
  22. Zach Johnson - his "I'm just a good little God fearing farm boy from Iowa" act is really lame and he somehow comes across as almost arrogant about it. He praised God over and over last year after The Masters. Hey Zach, God doesn't care who wins The Masters.
  23. I'm loyal to Titleist for balls and Footjoy for gloves & shoes, but after that it's whatever works.
  24. The Masters is by far my favorite. US Open is 2nd, British 3rd and PGA 4th.

    Ever Broken Par?

Best score was a 68 on a par 72 course (Keller Golf Course - blue tees, St. Paul MN). Best round was actually an even par 72 in tough conditions (Links at Northfork - Ramsey MN). Shot 5 under on the front nine once and then hit 3 balls OB on the 10th tee and walked off the course.
