Here are some images from a session with my coach a couple weeks ago. To be honest I was surprised by what I was seeing given that not that long ago I was suffering from flipping and fat shots! I'll try sort the video out shortly and get that posted. Regards Mailman

In my case I was fatting shots because I lost height in the downswing which resulted in my club bottoming out several inches behind the ball. The other reason for my fat shots was I was flipping the club before the ball but I don't see that happening to you? I've got these two issues under control so that now if it happens in the course I know why and, importantly, know the fix. Regards Mailman

Christian, Are your bad shots topped or fatted? Regards Mailman

J
Maybe I'm just not talented enough to be anything on a golf course but a hack.
Everyone has talent mate...even that guy doing the 10,000 hours thing! However if you don't click with a coach then you are just wasting your time! Secondly mate, how much do you spend playing rounds of golf every month and is that similar to membership somewhere near you? I guess I'm just a bit spoilt as even over here in rip of Britain one can join a half decent public course for not much up front and then you can play/practice as much as you want. Regards Mailman

That sucks mate! How you managed to maintain the will to live on that back nine is an accomplishment in its own right! Do you think something like having a "personal" coach instead of being coached over the Internet would make a difference to your development as a golfer? Regards Mailman

Honestly mate, as a fellow hi handicapper only use the 3w and hybrid off the tee or in the case of the hybrid you can use that in thick rough. Otherwise it's irons off the deck every time as it's just not worth the risk if your shot with the 3w is sliced or hooked 95% of the time. Regards Mailman

Garmin s6 GPS Watch or Garmin G6 Approach
mailman replied to Gerald Fritz's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have a G3 and love it. I friend I play with regularly has the S3 watch and while it's a great piece of kit it doesn't give him as much useful info as my G3 :) Regards Mailman -
Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic

Played in a foursomes competition today. Foursomes is probably my least favourite format but today I surprised myself by just how well I played :) My partner didn't get a chance to putt in the first 6 holes as I either holed out or saved our par with pretty good one putts! Then there was the general iron play, which was probably some of the best ball striking I've ever had! Then there was the ball striking off the tee! I've found that I can leave the driver in the bag for all but 3 holes as my understanding of the game has developed and when I do pull the driver out I'm starting to get some serious distance with it will virtually eliminating my power slice that used to blight my game (the problem now is I can't get the ball to shape left to right when I need to!). As my power has developed over the last 6 months on some holes I'm finding that I've gone from driver to 3w, to hybrid to now teeing off with a 4 iron which means I'm hitting FIR pretty much every time and giving myself the opportunity to hit GIR and par or birdie instead of double bogey or worse! One of the other things I did was to put a stiff shaft in to my hybrid that has pretty much got rid of the slice I used to have with that club. Now I'm getting a gentle baby draw and more importantly I'm in love with my hybrid (and it only cost me £30 for the shaft!). All in all the hcp is heading in the right direction :) Regards Mailman -
I'm hopeing below 14 in a year's time. My golf this year has improved significantly and I've dropped 5 shots this year so far. The problem I have is I'm running out of individual competitions before we move to non-qualifier yellows next month for the winter. In fact I think there are only 2 individual competitions left this year and for one of them I'm away running in a 10 mile race that day! But hopefully this time next year I'll be under 15 with a bit of hard work! Regards Mailman

The wife can't complain too much. She bought me a 3 month subscription to play golf at a local course so it's actually her fault I'm addicted to golf ;) I guess I'm somewhat fortunate as I can play golf when I want as long as it doesn't clash with anything for the family. I could play Saturday and Sunday (and have in the past) but realise that's not fair on her as she is lumped with looking after the child while I head down to the course an hour before the round to warm up, then have a 4 hour round followed by another 40 minutes to an hour to have a drink afterwards. Lump in fortnightly lessons (another 2 hours away) plus me taking every opportunity I can to practice then it just makes being considerate of her needs even more important. Regards Mailman

Quick question for you fulla but are you a member anywhere? Regards Mailman

Had probably the ugliest round for a while but somehow managed to get away with an 87! 45 out and 42 in! 1 birdie, 6 pars, 5 bogies and 6 doubles! God there was some ugly golf, starting with 3 doubles, a bogey, birdie and double! On the positive side I was playing off 14 today and pared all 4 holes I didn't get shots on! Apart from that not a lot to really be too enthused about! Regards Mailman

Had a pretty good round on Thursday. 46 on the front nine which was quite a struggle with 3 doubles, 3 bogeys and somehow 3 pars!?!? However it was the back nine where my game finally came to life! I had a two over gross 37!!!! 7 of 9 GIR's! 1 birdie, 5 pars and 3 bogeys for my first ever sub 40 nine! That gave me a total of 83 :) Regards Mailman

Thats a great result fulla. Coincidence it happened just after a gym session? Regards Mailman
-
Well done mate! If that doesn't help you with your motivation I don't know what will??? :) Just a word on your fitness motivation...mate...just get your arse in to the gym! It's an ugly spiral, you play bad and you don't feel like hitting the gym. You don't hit the gym and you feel sh1t! The only fix to getting out of your mind funk is to just get up and go smash a gym session so you can get that post work out hi! I guarantee you that once you are on that hi EVERYTHING will feel better :) Regards Mailman

Well then it's accurate as you didn't have any sand saves :) Regards Mailman

So many people seem to be in a hurry to get nowhere in particular these days. Golf is a marathon, not a sprint. If you are getting worked up about the group in front of you maybe golf isn't the game for you? Mailman

Why does your American handicaps only get updated every couple weeks? Why not after each qualifying round? Regards Mailman

Custom Fittings are OVERRATED?
mailman replied to Kenny Lee's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well, to be honest mate...what difference does it make to your game? If these guys want to spend their own money on lovely shiney things then thats their business and really at the end of the day doesnt impact anything you do does it? Not trying to be harsh here but at the end of the day if these guys want flash clubs or to play Pro V1 balls or to wear lovely pro looking clothes then thats not really got anything to do with you. Regards Mailman -
So one of the big issues I have at the moment is dealing with a wicked power slice with my hybrid, and I mean POOOOOWAAAAAAR slice! Last night though I tried a different hybrid that had a stiff shaft and the difference between the Nike Vapour and my current Covert hybid was like day and night! So, not wanting to spend £170 on a new hybrid I asked for a new shaft to be put in my current hyrbid to see if that does the trick. Now, I know people like Mark Crossfield (hallowed be thy name) says that there is no difference in shafts BUT what are your guys opinions? To my untrained eye there seemed to be a very real performance difference between the vapour stiff shaft and my Covert regular flex shaft. Should I just cut my costs and fort out for a new hybrid or should I at least wait until I get my current hybrid back and see how that goes? Thanks in advance. Regards Mailman

Most certainly my game is much better today than it was 6 months ago! The swing, the strike, the power, the control (for a hi-handicapper) is so much better than it was back in January...not to mention my handicap has come down 3 shots in that time as well AND hopefully will continue to come down this year even further! Regards Mailman

Those three putts are real killers aren't they?!?? Most things I can shrug my shoulders at and walk on (sometimes only a few yards for the next shot :) but a three putt is something else!!! Regards Mailman -
You should have just laughed at him and told him that if you could actually hit the small gap in his cart that you wouldn't be needing to take lessons :) Sometimes the only way to defuse a tense situation is to take the p1ss! :) Regards Mailman
