  1. Honing a style of play that thrives on playing a partial set and running between shots does seem exactly opposite to most tournament play and aspiring posers worldwide.
  2. Go for it (they look like game inprovement irons compared to the older versions).
  3. Either use the starter set until they break or get a nicer set and learn how to hit them. Fitting schmitting - when in a comfortable address position is the sole roughly flat on the ground (slight toe up is tolerable)? When simulating impact position do they sit flat? Press on the shaft (make them flex) in that impact position. Do the shafts feel like noodles? Get stiffer ones. Go hit balls.
  4. "covert" seems like typo. The swoosh is gaudy.
  5. I'm solidly in the "what the F is a players blade" camp.
  6. And what non-USA country are you posting from this fine Tuesday November 6th evening.
  7. Sweatpants guy is not kuykendall?
  8. They were able to alter the default settings and hit an average of 17 yards longer. If I bought an adjustable driver and didn't hit 17 yards longer, or hit almost 100% FIR I'd ask for my money back.
  9. Of course you'd pull your 7-iron. What are you supposed to do, pull your 182 yard club which will leave you a 30 foot downhill putt 50% of the time if you're lucky. Or it'll leave you in the trees or fescue about 25% of the time if the pin is past the middle of the green. I aim ~ 5 paces short of the pin and try not to play a lot of spin. I like the ball to check within a couple feet with no suck back. Misses are long as often as short and the short ones always seem to be playable. We're told to work like crazy on our chipping and putting aren't we? I assumed it was on the off chance we missed the green.
  10. Corey Pavin is a successful PGA Tour professional, and he hits about the same distance you do. Everybody hits a wall somewhere. Even the professionals. Why didn't Davis Love III win more tournaments and have career winnings double or triple Pavin's? Maybe he didn't work on his short game enough. As I said earlier, just because somebody hits the ball a long way (compared to you) doesn't mean they're making a good stroke on their next one, or that their second stroke was even playable. A good player must work on a lot of things, but I have my doubts a 240 driver wouldn't score better with 270 yard drives. You can skip the 300 yard drives since it's only the shortest and longest hitters who keep throwing that number out there. Would a longer hitter do better getting the ball in a better position off the tee? Yeah, that's why they practice hitting drivers at the range. So I'll admit high handicappers could practice partial shots and scoring shots more often. So could 5 and 6 cappers.
  11. Is that how you interpreted your experience? You scored much better from their longer tee shots. They could do better with your accuracy and you'd obviously score better with longer tee shots.
  12. How bad are the current Callaway 3-woods? I can't imagine such a difference that you'd potentially embarass your sponsor, unless he's looking at a change?
  13. Quote: We have different experiences but I see the worst players taking the worst shots regardless of where they're taken from, but are closest to the best players (at my level - relative nobodies) once they get to the apron - when they can use a putter or a chipper. I personally see the largest discrepancy between the tee shot and the green. Most guys I play with have their irons game as their weakest link. The longer the iron the worse they play. Makes sense they'd either work on those long irons (or hybrids) or hitting a longer tee shot. To a casual observer on the range, either plan for improvement would look about the same - hitting a long club. I believe that if a player hits the ball > 250 yards off the tee they'd better work on a consistent repeatable shot shape, because errors are magnified with higher clubhead speed. I also disagree that someone satisfied with their game and hitting < 250 yards off the tee isn't capable of enjoying the game. That's crazy to suggest. Could they score better if they were right around the green on the par 5s? I don't know. A lot of guys seem to be saying that if someone is hitting their tee shots over 250 yards they're doing it at the expense of some other part of their game. Maybe it seems like we're on different sides of this debate because I hit my tee shots > 250 yards and have since my second year of playing (almost 30 years ago). Not sure how I'd alter my swing to hit the ball less than 250 yards with a driver (on a solid hit) but if it makes more putts drop, sign me up!!
  14. Swing at 50% power and baggy sweats. Could golf get any easier?
  15. Wait for the R13 in black.
  16. If they're popular when they go up for sale, like eye2's were when Phil used a couple old wedges (last year?) they might sell high, but I've seen sets exactly like the OP's (better condition even) sell on ebay in the last couple years for about $20. The next time they might fetch 200 so it's hard to say.
  17. Your driver is about 120 yards more than your 7-iron. 155(7), 165(6), 175(5), 185(4), 200(3), 270(driver) What would you use to fill a 70+ yard gap? Do your friend's yardages look like this? 150(PW), 162(9), 174(8), 186(7), 198(6), 210(5), 220(4), 235(hybrid), 250(4-wood), 270(driver)
  18. Snap hook drivers.
  19. Woods, Stanley, Watney, and McIlroy. Similar stature with solid swings. I'm looking forward to the TV spots - had enough of AK and Paul Casey to last a lifetime.
