  1. I defended him a couple weeks ago. now I regret it. Watching him smashing short putts into the hole (and missing one) was disgusting. He needs an attitude adjustment.
  2. I'm worried if I go in for a club fitting that the fitter will tell me i need new shafts as well... I can't handle that kind of wallet hit right now...
  3. who's jealous? This guy... congrats to you though.
  4. I have the same fears when i think of using fairway woods. I have never hit them well for some reason, I was always an iron player. I actually have a 904f 4 wood with a stiff steel shaft. it did not help me. Same or worse results. but this is just my experience...
  5. I haven't carried a fairway wood for years. I hit my 4i off the tee on most holes. If its wide open and long, I hit driver.
  6. I have never had this issue, but I've got a suggestion. Vijay Singh suggests you time your swing by saying "seventeen" as you swing. Give it a try...
  7. were you pitching? OUCH!
  8. haha... good one.
  9. brace against a solid right leg. Its been the single most effective thought for me.
  10. Pocket the ball. If it was a blind tee shot, I like to tee the player's ball up high on a nice white tee.
  11. We aren't saying "Just step up and decide to miraculously hit the ball straight". Nobody is saying its automatic. BUT, to play for years with an uncontrollable, distance sucking, enjoyment wrecking slice seems pretty counter intuitive to those of us who have been through the relatively painless and rewarding process of eliminating it. And we're not talking about the occasional slice shot, we're talking about consistently aiming into the woods on the left and bending it all the way back into the woods on the right. And the excuse that its a "habit" is ridiculous. You can choose to swing a different way. Continuing to compensate for and still commit an egregious swing flaw is a choice. And anyone can choose to change. If you don't believe that then you do not give yourself enough credit. And it doesn't take a lifestyle change like weight loss or quitting smoking. Those things are both significantly more difficult to fix.
  12. I understand what the poster is saying. If someone is consistently playing with a massive slice, the game is not as fun as it could be. Some small study and or thought about the swing would allow anyone to at least get closer to straight, and it does seem like the game is more enjoyable when you can take a more direct line at your target than the 45* banana ball takes.
  13. I did this once a couple years ago. I shot 78... it was a total blast.
  14. I take a club too much and I choke down, making the grip smaller and easier to rotate. I then take some practice swings rehearsing the shot. I only take the club 3/4 of the way back, cut off the follow through, and feel the extra release in the hands the shot takes.
  15. Correct. My only swing thought is to keep a solid right leg on the back and downswing. Let it extend naturally on the follow through.
  16. I've heard there is a significantly higher percentage of lefty golfers in Canada than in the US. Guess why...
  17. If nobody is waiting behind you, I support this, and I think it helps you improve.
  18. I Usually play as a single and get paired with others. I will play from whatever tees they are playing from. If I am alone, or have a choice, I will play from the whites (the forward most "men's tees"). I've decided I will do this until I shoot par from the whites, and then I'll move back.
  19. The good: I make par 33.8% of the time. The mediocre: I make bogey 42.13% of the time...

  21. Has anyone played it this year? I'm considering a weekend trip, but I don't want to get up there and find out conditions are poor. Any other suggestions for a reasonably priced weekend trip within 4 hours of NYC?
  22. a few thoughts. Think about shrugging your shoulders. If you are in your stance with a club and you shrug, you lift the club off the ground. So if you tighten up the shrug muscles while chipping, you will hit the ball thin, or fat if you then try to compensate. So when setting up to chip, relax you shoulders and keep them relaxed, to maintain the same relationships in your settup. Keep most of your weight on the front foot, and maintain the bend in that leg. Your lower body should move very very little. Keep the wrists relatively firm. A little break is fine and good for feel, but too much isn't necessary for a normal chip (needed for higher shots). Keep the left elbow straight.
  23. I am shocked that so many people don't consider golf shoes essential. I absolutely consider golf shoes as "must have" items even for casual golfers. You can get a nice pair of shoes for about 45=50 bux, either on ebay or rockbottom golf... its not that much of an investment.
  24. what is your ball flight like? Very high?
  25. I guess its alright if you only hit your sand wedge 60 yards, but I'm gonna tell you that my 1/2 swing with a sand wedge is a 50 yard shot, so that seems really short to me. Do you hit it really high? Do you swing really easy? Just trying to wrap my head around that yardage. I would not change your wedge btw. If it works, don't mess with it.
