I need some serious help with golf clubs
bm303 replied to putty's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would recommend a new or good condition used iron set for under $300. I personally would get the following: Driver, 3w, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid(or iron), 5-PW, GW, SW, LW, Putter. -
Are Titleist Pro V-1's worth the price?
bm303 replied to Alex1's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The NXT Extreme is a firm ball that will go very long. Great ball, but I can't play with it around the greens. Depending on what you are looking for, I'd go with the NXT Extreme or Bridgestone e6 or NXT Tour. -

Until I really started shooting mid-low 80's consistently I never really thought they were worth it. Even now, I don't think they are the ball for me and I prefer the NXT Tour. Not as spinny, but still have that great feel. -
In need of a ball recommendation.

I personally find that the NXT Tour has enough spin around the greens, and feels great on the greens and at the teebox. I personally like this ball more than Pro V1's, and the only true difference I see is in chips and putting where the Pro V1 is superior. You should get a noticeable amount of more spin with the NXT Tour but not lose that great feel. Best ball for the money IMO, give it a try. -
This works for me, but it might not for you. Generally when I am hitting a slice I think about taking the club back nearly outside(yes i mean outside) and then open my hips on the downswing to let the path go inside-out. The opposite of what you believe you should be doing is what works for me, because the inside-out path does not come from the club but rather opening the hips on the downswing for me. Also try and keep your elbow close into your body but not too close.

I'd suggest the Odyssey White Hot XG line, specifically the #9. The best deal is the Ping Karsten series which is $89 for some great putters.

Any feedback on COBRA FP II 2008 IRONS?
bm303 replied to Stacey_E's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can tell you the 2007 model FP's are great well rounded clubs. Forgiving but still pleasing at address. I think they are great clubs for mid-high handicappers and have nothing bad to say about the clubs. Well, except for the fact that after a few months the plastic piece holding the shaft and clubhead starts to separate and needs to be pushed back in place. Does not affect playability I am just a neat freak. Overall: great clubs, and I think the 2008 model is nearly the same. -
Mp-57's or Cobra FP's. I play the FP's and love them. You could probably get a mint condition 2007 FP set for like $200.

I'd go get fitted at your local shop.

I have a net and think it's great to practice your swing and mechanics. Yeah, you can't see where it's going but I can generally tell if im hitting it straight, hooking it, or fading it, based upon my swing. It really reminds me how important it is to swing easy and smooth, rather than rush it. You can tell if you hit one thin, fat, or just right.

Stiff vs. Regular Iron Shafts
bm303 replied to erwintrace08's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully you get some more responses so that I can get some feedback also. -
Yeah, that's what I have been told. My father says he will get me new woods in a year, and honestly I don't want to wait that long. I am looking for a cheap alternative to somehow getting at least a stiff driver, and stiff 3wood/hybrids asap. I'm considering just purchasing the shafts and sticking with my clubheads, even though the clubheads are pretty worn.

Basically I am looking for a method to get my clubs to look new. I will try out the metal polish technique, and see if that works well. Hopefully someone can give me a method using household ingredients, that I don't have to go out and purchase.

All New Mizuno MP 52s!!!! Thanks All
bm303 replied to verse214's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Congrats! Sounds like you have a set that will last you a long time and perform great. Good luck with the clubs! -
I've had my irons for about a year now, and they certainly are starting to show some wear. There are lots of little scratches and nicks on the impact area and the sole. I am curious to know what "at home" methods there are to make these irons look like new. I suppose a little steel wool couldn't hurt, but I doubt that would give them that out of the box look. Any tips on products/methods to clean the clubheads and give me that same feeling I had when I purchased them one year ago. Thanks a lot!

I tend to really hook my hybrids, unlike most of my other clubs. My shot dispersion on my woods is getting worse, possibly because I am MUCH stronger than I was one year ago when I purchased them. One shot I hit a fade, next shot I hit a draw. At this point I believe my swing is consistent enough that it has somewhat to do with my shafts. I use all regular flex shafts, but have been told that I should be hitting stiff. The only setback at this point is money, otherwise I would have replaced my shafts with stiff already. My swing speed is in the high 90s with driver, not sure about the hybrids. My question: Do I need stiff shafts for my woods/hybrids? If so, what are my options(trade ins, ebay, trades.. etc) to obtain quality stiff shafts in these clubs(check sig) for a very reasonable price. My clubheads are fine, just the shafts could definitely use replacement IMO. Thanks! Also - Drives average about 260, 3 hybrid about 210. Not sure if this affects anything.

Listen to some music on my ipod to pump me up. Before the first tee, I always take my time and take deep breathes to calm me down.

I've got something that sounds like what you want. I have an octagon mat($200) that is very large and high quality. I also have a net($75) that I just purchased(old net broke after 1 year) and it seems to be holding up very well. I feel that with this "range" at my house I am able to really work out the kinks in my swing before a match, and make sure everything is feeling smooth and how it's supposed to. You can get a full setup for about $100, but for a few more bucks, you can truly get the ultimate setup. All I can say is, don't cheap out on the net, because they will break if they are outside and not high quality. Good luck!

Do the following and you really can't go wrong: Swing Easy Treat it like an IRON not a wood

What club do you use out of the sand?
bm303 replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'd say 50% of the time sand wedge, 50% of the time lob wedge. Generally if I have a lot of green to work with, and am confident that I can get it over the lip I'll use the sand wedge(56). If not, lob wedge works just as well on the short shots. -
Time to decide: AP2, ZB, or 67?
bm303 replied to scooterguitar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yes I understand, but from physical appearance they seem to be less of a cavity then some of the "true" cavity back clubs such as the Cobra and Ping irons. Not saying they are not cavity back's, just not as full as some of the others. -
What is your favorite or dream putter and why?
bm303 replied to Wisconsin Golfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'd have to go with the Ping Redwood Black Satin. Just feels beautiful. -

bm303 replied to scooterguitar's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Not a great answer to your question, but you should definitely stick with the 57's. I wouldn't make the move to a less forgiving club if you are a 19 handicap. I don't see the point, especially since the 57's are not cavity backs, it's not like your switching from cavity backs to pure blades. Really not necessary to switch at this point, and I'd stick with your 57's until you're ready for a pure blade(IMO +0). -
That's it Harry. It's one of the two blade putters.
