Newbie considering 2007 Big Bertha 3W...
Gerry18 replied to 99s's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have the Big Bertha 3, 5, and 7 wood. They are by far the most easy fairway woods I ever hit. From the Deck, Fairway even from the rough. Easy to hit, loooong shoots to expect. I suffer in the past for a huge slice, this wood and some lessons get rid of that. I am also a high handicap, and I can recommend this ones as the best fairway wood out there. -
When I got Fitted by Callaway they give a 7 wood instead a 3 iron and a 4 hybrid in replace of the 4 iron. My biggest difference right now is that I used a lot my 3 iron to get out of trouble when you need a very low shoot (Under the trees). And the 7 wood does everything but that. I now use a 5 iron way back my stance for low shoots. My 7 wood is the exact same distance that the one I got from my previous 3 iron but a LOT higher shoot.

IMHO You should get fitted before hitting them. Why, because you can change the length longer or shorter, and also you can change the size of the grips, the flexibility of the shaft. Believe me the flexibility of the shaft in the driver can help you to prevent a huge slice.

Basically, my answer is the same as the other guys, Yes they will make the improvement. But I thick there is 2 points in the improvement. One is the confidence you get from the new set, meaning confidence in the new set,is for example you can go and buy the brand new Nike's or Mizuno but you look at them and you do not have the confidence on them, they might be the newest but if you do not feel like love with them, you might not hit them at all. The second point will be Fitting. Getting a fitted set will give you more confidence and the ability to hit them with a confident and relaxed position, feeling physically and mentally that those are the best set in the moment for YOU. With this to points, you will definitely see a lot of improvement in your game. Hope this is clear. LOL

Driver: BURNER, HIBORE XL, or SUMO2
Gerry18 replied to RickPro's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
In my opinion, now that I read that you want straight shots and not work the ball, I can recoment the HiBore or the Sumo, I tried the TM but It was the most difficult club for straight shoots. HiBore will help you with straight and long shoots, very easy to hit club. The SUMO is the other straigth shooter you mention, the square head will help you to keep your ball straight. If I can recomend one club for straight shooting will be the Callaway FT-i, Great club. The best in my opinion. Let us know what club you finally purchase? -
20-30 yards to the green from the sand
Gerry18 replied to grahamlee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Have you try without opne the face of the club? if the bunker is just next to the green you can make it rool long way. But if you are looking for a bunker shot from the fairway and land into the green, I probably switch for a PW. -
Fairway Woods help for a beginner
Gerry18 replied to ElvisG's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I recomend any of the Callaway woods. The big Bertha are so easy to hit, or the new square ones. But I do recomend to go and spend $25 to get analized in Golfsmith, or any other machine that can give you wich are the best for you swing -
Drivers for mid to high handicappers
Gerry18 replied to peteybird19's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
FT-5 I more focused to the middle to low handicap., but give it a try. Also you can also check Golfsmith, Edwin watts, and Callaway pre-owned. In golfsmith and Callaway they both have a large selection of pre-owned clubs. I think you can find one of the expensive ones at a good price here. Also the FT-i has just been price reduced yesterday at golfsmith check them out. -
Drivers for mid to high handicappers
Gerry18 replied to peteybird19's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hey guys I had the same issue about 4 months ago, here is what I can recomend. Callaway FT-i Cleveland Hi-Bore XL or XLS Nike Sumo2 5900 All this 3 drivers will help you with accuracy, all of them will help you fixing your slice, and probably gain some yards. My personal recomendation will be the Callaway FT-i in the version you need, either neutral or Draw to help with slice. Hope this help you guys. -

Hello MunkeyGolfer. the first thing to know is where are you located, in my experience Golfsmith are VERY good guys in experience and recommendations. But if your case your local Golfsmith store is small and the GolfGalaxy store is a huge one, they may have more experienced people there. But if I had to choose one of the two, my pick always will be Golfsmith.

Does your driver match your other woods/hybrids?
Gerry18 replied to mrobbie's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Dude, It is all about what you can hit and feels good when you hit them. -
Call your friend and let him know he just won a Nike Sumo 5900 for the exact price you paid. And go buy you a new one.
-
I also think It would not make any difference (for what I understand in your explanation). If you post some pics maybe we will be able to give you a better feedback. And first lesson If you borrow your club ALWAYS check it before you put it back in the bag. You know just in case... :)

I never used before, but when I got my new X-20's I need to protect my investment, so now I use them when traveling to protect the club heads and when they are at home. At the couse they are almost free of covers.

Congrats!!! That is one of my goals too.
