  1. I've been through the same selection process recently and selected the Titleist AP1 - liked the look and feel. I also tried: 2) Callaway X20 4) TaylorMade R7 All excellent and once again very personal. Cheers H
  2. personally - 2H works for me!
  3. Hi Having gone through the same process recently, I would recommend the following to demo: Titleist AP1 (which I purchased) TM R7 Callaway X-20 Mixuno MX-950 Once again - it's all personal.
  4. Once again - demo at a reputable golf shop and decide on which feels best and you like the look. Confidence is very important. I would tend to agree mint or excellent second hand is a economical way to go. Also a number of US sites are promoting last years irons ate great prices (e.g. $349USD for TM R7 steel). As you improve over time - you can then upgrade but most game improvement irons work until you reach a low - mid handicap! Good luck and enjoy one of the greatest games!
  5. As always demo and get fitted before you buy. I'm a fan of the TM Burner 3 Wood/19 3H combination. Others I've tried are the Nickent 3DX/DX and the PING G10 series. I just replaced my Driver with a TM Burner - probably will end up with TM Wood and Hybrid as the price is right now! $130 each new
  6. Living in the north island of New Zealand - Auckland and the Bay of Islands - we can golf all year round. Winter is short (June-Aug) but we can still play as long it's not raining!
  7. Thank you both. I agree -I liked both of them but only tried them for 10 minutes. I am going to spend an hour or two using both next weekend. I may end with two putters! Birthday and gift for myself...if only...
  8. Advice please - I am comparing the SCotty Cameron Studio Select 2008 Newport 1.5, 2 and Circa 62 No2. They all feel nice and I putt well with them. Any feedback or comments. Thanks
  9. Hi there, I thought that my final choice was near until a demo between MX-25, G10 and AP1. I narrowed my choice to G10 and AP1. I would welcome feedback from members who have played with both. I am still looking for a game improvement iron but not playing enough to jump to MP-57 or AP2 at this stage. Still need the feedback and forgiveness. I thought my search would be easy but I am getting close...
  10. Excellent irons but for a beginner Ping G10 might be more forgiving (except for MX950). It's all personal - demo with a fitter and decide what works for you - feel & look are very important as well. If you are confident with the equipment - this will help as well as practice on the green (and driving range when it's raining etc). All the best.
  11. Try the MP-57 as well. Cheers
  12. As you say courses are getting longer but from my perspective I hit my hybrids (17 and 22) better than my 2 or 3 iron. Demo a few and see what works for you. Use a simulator to understand your distance changes if any.
  13. Thank you all for the feedback. Very helpful
  14. Just curious - why is the MP line better. I am considering the MX-25 VS MP-57. Thanks
  15. I would go with the one that felt the best and recommendation from the fitter. AP2 would seem like a good choice as you are playing weekly (and getting better). If you feel that your handicap is decreasing. All very personal. As mentioned - AP1 is fine for your skill level (mid) and AP2 is for the
  16. Hi I have continued to demo irons this week - in making a final decision. Would appreciate any recent experience with the AP1, MX-25 or MP-57. I am leaning towards the MX-25 with project X 5.5 shaft.
  17. Thank you for all the advice. I just came from a demo and tried the following: AP1 iron - great club and liked the feel. TM Burner iron - very forgiving but would probably outgrow within 1 year?? TM R7 - not for me - eventhough very popular (love the look) X-20 - nice feel and very forgiving Will try the G10 and Mizuno MP-57 this week...
  18. I am planning to replace my graphite x-18 with a set of steel irons. Currently looking at G10, MP-57, X-20 and R7? All advice and other suggestions warmly appreciated. In particular experience with them and pros/cons.
  19. Sounds like you purchased the MX-25 but from your poll - I would recommend G10 or R7 - try before you buy. Callaway x18 or X-20 might work for you as another option to consider. Ignore the marketing and purchase what feels good and provides confidence. Spend as little as your ego can afford until you are a mid-handicapper is another option. Good luck with the best game in the world!
  20. Pro V1 but also use NXT when I may lose a ball...
  21. Very impressed with the Nickent 4DX - I have also tried Callaway BB460 FT-i FT-5; TM R7 460 and Burner; Ping G10
  22. I purchased the Nickent 4DX driver and 2 Nickent 3 DX hybrids (17/23). Very happy.
  23. 4 or 5 iron but sometimes 3 Hybrid. Depends on the weather and course.
  24. Bridgestone but also try Top Flite D2
  25. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
