Bang for buck, it would be pretty hard to go past the CB3 if they press your buttons. No way the orange paint and extra $500 is worth it or going to be noticeable
-
B~llocks its semantics. GWs run the gambit of bounce, flange thickness etc. Hogan sets had some other moniker E (equalizer) wedge or some such guff. Still looks and smells like a GW, probaly is a GW!

I would suggest that as your still newish to the game go for the Ci7 its good solid GI club (which you could easily play down into a single figure andicap), whereas the Pi series are Players clubs pitched at lower cappers- Padraig Harrington won his majors with the Pi series etc

Anyone play clone clubs?? thoughts on clones?
Mozgolf replied to APrince's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My 02/100. Just be careful when you start upgrading them. You can quite easily end up at the same price you would pay for an OEM set on close-out of last years model. You can pick up Cobra Amp irons new for $279, Adams V3R or a12 OS, Cleveland Mashie etc for about $300. Nike Coverts for just over $300. Even if it cost me a touch more, I think I would be happier with known quality brand even if the model is "old" compared to Pinemeadows etc -
I voted never. As has been said, I never have a deliberate cleaning process, a swipe with a damp towel, run a tee through the grooves while waiting on the tee box etc. Only time they get a bit more attention is after a wet round they get dragged inside to dry off

Help for golf set (700$ budget)
Mozgolf replied to michaelpg's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Not sure about you but I would go for new, last seasons models on clearance Irons like Razr Combo or Adams Super S for $399 (you get your hybrids included in the price) Adams Watson Wedges GW, SW and LW for $99 Plenty of drivers for between $100-$150 for example Speedline S $149, Speedline fast 12 for $99, similar prices now for Cobra Cells, Burner Superdfast2.0 for about $110 Loads of fairways for under $100, $60-70 The Wilson stuff you are talking about is also pretty decent and well priced Putters, check out Cleveland Classic for a range of models and very modest prices With a bit of research you can easy put together a decent set for your budget and all shiny and new. 3balls, rockbottom or even TGW are all good sources for discounted older lines -
They are a pretty decent set of irons for the price. Particularly if you consider that the set includes the hybrid. They were not a mainstream Adams product as I recall but a special run for big box stores, kinda a cast version of the very popular A4 Forged. Plenty of good reviews form users on most golf forums

New 2012 Nike VRs irons vs Taylormade burner???
Mozgolf replied to Andrenortje's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Nike VRs way underrated sleeper of an iron IMHO. I personally prefer the look over the Burners as well, less chunky top line and more subtle offset -
Hi, I have not played that model but have had a number of past Watson Wedge Packs and still use a set of them now. This model looks like it is a little Game Improvement oriented compared to the more traditional wedge packs, so should suit you down to the ground as someone newish to the game. I have played down to around a 5 handicap with my 3 wedges for $99 sets and have no problems at all with quality either. They just get the job done and I am too tight to pony up $300 for 3 big name wedges. Go for it and good luck out there!

TaylorMade Prepping to produce Non-Conforming Clubs

At the end of the day I doubt they can do anything that will help a real chop. The improvements will likely only really help someone with a semi-decent swing -
TaylorMade Prepping to produce Non-Conforming Clubs
Mozgolf replied to mvmac's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Sounds interesting to me, just to see what they can do, or if it really makes a difference. -
Maybe they are better now, the first ones I had were very slim and pretty slip- ie lacking in grip
-
I am on my third set of Watson wedges, I'm just too tight to pony up $300 for 3 wedges when the Watson sticks work for me for $100. Best value way to get 3 matched up wedges, you might want to flip the plasticky grips is all

Is Vijay a Jerk or "Justified": Files Suit Against PGA Tour
Mozgolf replied to Mr. Desmond's topic in Tour Talk
PGA blunders around and puts an item on the list that has no PED, the player 'fesses up to using it. The world media and forum hacks very publicly pillory him, jumping on the Vijay is a bad guy bandwagon. He gets pissed and has a crack back at them and he is the jerk. Take a deep breath and have a look at the criticism he has been subjected to for months. How happy would you be in his shoes? -
Woo! New Clubs! Adams a5OS Hybrid/Irons Set
Mozgolf replied to WalkTheCourse's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
@ thanw I think I am now on my third iteration of Watson Wedges. They are fine for me and hold up pretty well. I just can never get to ponying up $100 x 3 for wedges when these things just plain work for me at 1/3 the cost of other OEM wedges. @ walk the course. I am also on my second set of Adams irons- a2's and for a few years now the standard a7's. Very hard to beat in terms of value for money the a7 were only about $400 a couple of months after they came out, which included two very good hybrids. Most other OEM you are paying $600+ without hybrids, so for me it was a no-brainer. It seems a shame that they seem to have gone away from a mainstream hybrid GI set in their line up. Its either players GI with no hybrids or SGI to the max with 4 hybrids+ -
IMHO. The difference generally is ego related. Many seem to have this unusual malady of throwing up a little in their mouth at the mere sight of an SGI "shovel". This is generally followed by the winning lines, " i'm a great ballstriker, just can't drive or putt for Sh*t" and my 20+ handi would be single digits if only I had a bit more workabilty on my irons to help me get onto those tucked away pins. All over these type of boards you see/ hear of tons of good low digit cappers playing Ping G- series irons, whilst all the 20 cappers want to justify buying forged blades. It's like there is some unwritten credo that your not playing real golf unless you do it with a wafer thin butter knife of a set of blades.

I get it Xenophia rules in the US. Ship Steve W out, ship Piers out, bag any non-American that ever dared mention they thought they might compete with Tiger (oops that was another site) -
IMHO a great set to start with. I wish I had a set anywhere near half as good as that to start with. Some will surely disagree, but I like the idea of starting out with the easiest club you can lay your hands on. With luck the learning process will be smoother and the kid will enjoy the game all the more. I serious doubt the extra couple of hybrids will have a detrimental impact on your childs future development in the sport. You know the drill- there are an increasing number of pros playing with more and more hybrids

Woo! New Clubs! Adams a5OS Hybrid/Irons Set
Mozgolf replied to WalkTheCourse's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Sounds like a nice club. I have a sneaking suspicion this are a limit production run made for the big box stores, rather than a part of the mainstream Adams line up. They did a similar thing with the A4r line of clubs- a cast version of their very popular forged iron set a couple of years ago. That club was a real sleeper and got quite a lot of respect on the boards for a great product for very little $$$ A few other OEMs have done the same thing over the years, recently their has been a Nike Ignite II or the like and Taylor Made pushed out the R5 XL a few years back. Enjoy you new goodies
